When most people think of Filipino Martial such as Escrima, Arnis, and Kaili, they thin of weapon-based training. In fact, many law enforcement agencies and special forces units train their members in Filipino knife fighting. But many people are not aware that the Filipino Martial Arts FMA, have a complete system of empty hand self-defense techniques.
This is a flow drill called hubud lubud. It translates to “tie and untie”. Each of the movements can be used individually to block an incoming attack. In reality you will never be able to use this drill as shown. Instead, you want to think of the drill as a form, you extract the blocks and use them when appropriate.
These kids come every week to our blocking and striking class where we focus on this particular drill and all of the variations.
