      I just bought a riverside and now I saw this...
      It's either this or I get a golden reverberator. I need a reverb pedal but this thing is just so cool it's almost worth putting off the reverb pedal. I have seen so many different uses of it but I love the flanger sound it gives.

    Strymon's genius is that they are able to analyze complex systems and encapsulate them in a simple interface.
    From this perspective, I'd say Deco is one of the best pedal-concept ever.
    On the other hand, Pete's competence and composed enthusiasm inspire so much admiration.
    It's my favourite pedal and I am really happy to have one on my pedalboard. ❤‍🔥

    I love my Deco. I have had one for three years now and I am still finding cool sounds. This is a pedal that can be as easy, or as complex to use as you want it to be. Just out of the box, it is very easy to get great tones. This unit, to me is kind of a "Swiss Army knife" of effects. There isn't a bad sound. I used it with very basic settings and understand of the pedal for about a year and I loved it. When I started to experiment a little with the favorite setting and secondary functions I realized that I had only been using about 25% of this pedals potential. Again, I love pedals like this. They sound fantastic with very minimal tweaking and understanding but with a little research and experimentation, can be an indispensable part of your sound. Mine is. I swap pedals on my board frequently but this has yet to be a candidate for replacement. Thank you so much. I love your company. I have several other Strymon units and am extremely happy with them.

      How much more do you get out of the Deco with the Expression Pedal ?
      I need a Doubler and love Tape saturation.
      I also want a Tremolo and a Strymon Reverb.
      Not sure what to get next.
      PS I wanna sell my Roland RE Space Echo.

    • @drdre4397
      @drdre4397 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@harrisfrankou2368 The Deco is an amazing pedal and does so much more than tape saturation and doubling, though it does those things very well. The flanger is the perfect amount for me, giving you a great flange sound but without being too much, the chorus is much the same. The slapback is honestly incredible and the tape echo is rad. I don't even have a stereo rig though when you do you can bounce the sound and do all sorts of fun things. The deco is amazing, buy one.

    This pedal obviously impresses me, but for what its worth, one of the things that impresses me the most is how such a big time name as you guys are, y'all are out interacting with fans like y'all do here. Companies don't enough emphasis on connecting with their fans or customers, even at such a low level as social media, if youtube counts as that haha. anyway, its cool to see you guys interact with fans, will defiantly be trying to get the Deco

    Pete Celi, thank you! You are one of the rare ones out here who truly knows how to demonstrate the features of a product/device. And you know how to speak the speak to us. Every thing you say is 100% to a perfect demo. So, thanks again. (I am a proud owner/user of the BigSky (mind-blowing!). I am oredering the Lex (Leslie) pedal tomorrow. I alresady have an older NEO MiniVent for guitar and it has been awesome; but, your Lex is awesomer! It nails all the expected Leslie stuff perfectly, but goes beyond into a whole new world of rotary/mod fun. Now, seeing this demo on the DECO makes me weep with regret that I ever sold my 1984 DOD (rackmount) Flanger/Doubler. So, the DECO is next on the list. I might even order it tomorrow with the Lex. I figure I may as well jsut go for the best at this point - Strymon. Thanks guys. Amazing products. Cheers. 😎✌🎸

    Really great rundown of the MANY different ways you can use this pedal. I just picked one up a few days ago and I've only barely been able to dive into it, but it's my new final stage for my acoustic rig. If you play an acoustic plugged in, do not sleep on this pedal. A great way to tame the highs without losing them altogether, and get some really nice "tape" compression and beefiness. Not to mention a cool ass modulation station. Unique box that I am jazzed about

    For selecting buffered/unbuffered:
    1.) Unplug power supply from Deco
    2.) Press both bypass switches with one hand and keep them pressed.
    3.) Power up Deco by plugging power supply in.
    4.) With bypass switches still pressed, turn the blend knob PAST "12 o clock" for buffered
    or BEFORE "12 o clock" for unbuffered/( = True Bypass ) functionality.
    5.) Release the two pressed bypass switches and the pedal saves the adjustment automatically. Takes about 2 seconds.
    6.) This adjustment will stay in Deco memory until actively changed again by the same routine just described.
    7.) Have fun!🙂

  • @DjamKaretVideos
    @DjamKaretVideos 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The Deco is both "creamy" AND "dreamy"!! The left side is the "creamy" side, where you can get creamy tone that's great for smoothing single coils guitars, Clavinets (it sounds GREAT on my Clav) while you pummel your tube amp with the drive knob. The right side is the "dreamy' side, where you can dial in killer chorus, flange, delay and other trippy effects. We tried it on a baritone acoustic guitar the other night, plugged in between the guitar's quacky piezo pickup and an old Fender amp. It smoothed out the barking, and replaced it with a new creamy tone. And then the classic trippy world of the 1960's came alive, when we activated the dreamy flanger! JUST GO GET ONE, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!! Remember: its both creamy & dreamy!!!

      Hey Ross, you can place Deco where sounds best to you. If you're using it for more overdrive and flanger/echo sounds, it might sound best after your overdrives and before your time-based effects like mod/delay/reverb. You can also place at the end of the signal path if you want to add saturation to your entire chain, and take advantage of the cool stereo effects!

    70's Engineer effects in a pedal. I need to train my cat to paw in the next sound. Or buy Ninja toe socks to move the knobs. I wish it had like 6 presets or so to access vs 1 "favorite". I do love my Volante but it don't saturate everything or flange. Tape effects are just serious candy for me, this one is top notch. Too many old records went through my ears and that's the dawgone sound I'm looking for.

    08:57 Sorry, I've got brain fail trying to grasp this bit: I don't understand how the lag deck can be slightly ahead of the reference deck. I thought the 'reference deck' was real time guitar as it is being played, so I don't understand how the lag (delay) can be ahead of the real-time playing. Can you explain this concept of 'reference deck' and 'lag deck'? Thanks.

    • @strymon
      @strymon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, this is accomplished on the Deco by making the Lag Deck your Reference Deck and slowing down the playback of the original Reference Deck just a bit.

    Is it possible to control more than 1 parameter with an expression pedal?. I was thinking it would be cool to add more saturation and also slight slap back delay the further I move the expression pedal to the toe position.

    • @strymon
      @strymon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the Deco, you can only control 1 parameter at a time as set during a power-up mode.

    Very, very nice demo. Like Heisenberg switched from comprehensive blue meth manufacture to comprehensive effects modelling, wow. I've been looking for a true aperiodic flange/chorus, and it sounds like you've nailed the whole tape effect gamut to boot. Can you say a bit more about the wobble? Is it a kind of modelled width+volatility?

    I‘m wondering how the lag deck can play before the actual signal. Is there actually a time machine implemented in this product?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The lag deck is being played before the reference deck, not necessarily the "dry signal". What you're hearing is the two decks that can be offset to create the effects you hear. It's not just dry signal and wet signal, the whole signal is really the wet signal. Here's a white paper that goes into depth on this: www.strymon.net/studio-reel-reel-tape-dynamics-double-tracking-white-paper/

    • @strymon
      @strymon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For this video, Pete used 2 guitars. An Agile guitar with a Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck and a GFS Fat PAT in the bridge, and a Fender Stratocaster with Rocketfire's Total '60s pickup set. There was no physical guitar amplifier/speaker used here as the Deco's stereo outputs were each sent into its own Damage Control Womanizer Tube Preamp with its Cab Simulated Direct Output connected directly into an audio interface for recording.

    How wide is the frequency response of this pedal? I am wondering if I could also use it as an insert on a full mix in order to get some subtle saturation tones to blend with the original signal. If it can do something along the lines of 50Hz-12KHz it would be awesome for that as well.

    • @strymon
      @strymon  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mike Vlcek When the Deco is set to Studio mode, the frequency response is 20Hz - 16kHz. Also, blending your dry signal with the saturated signal from the Deco will cause phasing issues with your audio. We recommend sending your entire signal through in series. You can get the tape warmth for your Line Level signal even with the Saturation knob set to minimum.

    Can someone explain to me what happen, with le LAG button, between the minimum, and the Ø position ?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On Deco, the knob range from minimum to ø sets the LAG DECK in ahead of the Reference Deck up to .3ms at minimum and in unison at ø. you get a static filter effect if WOBBLE is set to minimum and a moving comb filtering/flanging when turing WOBBLE up.

    I would be interested in using high saturation with a wobble effect, but not phasing i.e. just the mono lag deck signal modulating with high saturation. Is this possible, or is the lag deck not affected by the saturation control?
    Never used a tape deck before, so I suppose my question is does the lag deck take its signal from the first tape deck or the original dry guitar signal?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Henry Barraclough On the Deco, the the signal chain for the effects is guitar => Tape Saturation => Doubletracker decks => outputs. So if you have both the Tape Saturation and Doubletracker engaged, the saturated guitar signal feeds into both decks of the Doubletracker. The Reference and Lag Decks of the Doubletracker are parallel with each other and receive their signal from your dry guitar or Tape Saturation if engaged.

    Im very interested in using this pedal in all kinda of different ways, primarily as a modulation pedal and slap back but would like to take advantage of it as a light OD too. Where on a pedalboard should this go? after fuzzes distortions and overdrives but before delay trem and verb? Where is the most versatile and effective spot for it?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what it is being used for, but to use it for what you are describing, I'd say the best place for it might be after your drives and before modulation :)

  • @alanredversangel
    @alanredversangel 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like this pedal, but I'm not sure what the saturation knob gives you that a cheap OD wouldn't?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Tape Saturation adds odd order harmonics to help with fattening up your signal and dynamic compression to dial down peaks in amplitude of your signal. Lastly, the Tape Saturation has dynamic band limiting which affects the frequency response by taming the high frequency sharp transients.

    Hi Strymon! In you blog you wrote that Buffered Bypass can be connected using the right out.. Hence, is needed to select True or Bypass using the double-switching restart of the unit o you can simply connect the right out to have the buffer mode?

    Curious to where you guys with this pedal are putting it on your board in relation to other time and gain effects (if you are using both saturation and doubling effects)

    • @strymon
      @strymon  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Fredo F. This really depends on how you plan on using the Tape Saturation of the Deco. If you are using it for a light overdrive, placing it at the beginning of the chain is ideal. But if you want to use the Tape Saturation to provide tape warmth and compression, we recommend placing it at the end of the signal chain.

    Is this better in the fx loop or in the front of the amp (but behind other drive pedals)?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SickMetalAddict It really depends on how yo plan on using the Tape Saturation of the Deco. If used as an always on effect to apply to your entire signal, we recommend placing at the end of your chain in the effects loop if possible. You can also place it after your other drive pedals to get a different sound and feel from your existing drive pedals.

    • @Papproni99

      igor goga you see overdrive is basically cutting your signals peaks and lows which differs via signal size. Look after the electronic side of those, interesting stuff!
