@@linhcao1029 Well Belladonna means beautiful lady/woman and she was definitely both beautiful and sad because of what happened to her. There is also a plant named Belladonna that is actually quite beautiful but poisonous. In small amounts your eyes become dilated and it can cause hallucinations. In this movie Jeanne used this plant to make the villagers feel good, run away from their problems (as drugs often do) and they loved her for that. The beauty/horror of this movie is that the person that began all of these problems for Jeanne is ultimately the person that ends it. In the end it seems Jeanne becomes Jeanne d'Arc a.k.a. Joan of Arc so it really is bittersweet.
belladona of sadness was released in 1973 while berserk was first published in 1989. the animation of belladona reminds me very much of copernicus' breath though
i wanna say this movie isnt talked about enough even though its true but kinda want it to be a sort of hidden gem so people can just find it like i did out of nowhere. Also I read somwhere that the studio after 2 years of production claimed bankruptcy so prolly why it wasnt out in the open a lot.
