Your work is highly admirable, I'm a Jaguar specialist and have come across many of these annoying faults. I too can get carried away trying to diagnose some cars (the reason im watching this video as it reminds me of me) but sometimes it's just time to cut your losses and get a second hand part at a shadow of the cost of the labour involved and move on to the next better paying job. You are the kind of engineer I would love to employ as you love and enjoy what you do. Keep up the good work.👏
Hello sir i have an issue in my car that drains the battery fast, if i left the car off for the night, next morning it will not start because of the battery, but if i keep the battery disconnected at the night, next morning it will start perfectly, sometimes when i'm in the car and the key if not inserted, i can hear a noise time to time close to the radio station for 2 or 3 seconds like if something moves and it stops doing it for some minutes, then it starts again, can you advice what kind of issue can be please ?
You go above and beyond to get a repair! I used to be known during my apprentice years in the late sixties as someone who would open “sealed units” to repair them internally mainly on heating boiler and automatic machinery. If you can fault find at the component level you will never be short of work or money! Great video!!
Excellent work yet again Luis, sharing your valuable technical knowledge and vital troubleshooting skills. Always a pleasure watching your videos, so educational. 😀
I had the exact same faults on a x type I was working on at the dealer, unfortunately you can't buy a new fuse box anymore so repair or second hand is the only fix. Great diagnostics! 👍🏻
luis you are my Top Dog the way you explain things I have came accross a lot of high end youtubers But i have to say you are brilliant Thanks for sharing your knowledge
I fully agree that it hurts to see that Jaguar apparently did things on purpose to make things close to "unfixable" (that "fuse" on the PCB and that non-serviceable relay). I have 2 more examples, which I fixed anyway: The rubber on the plastic-strips to the left and right of the windscreen disintegrates over time. I just wrote a post on jaguarforums of how to fix that anyway with generic rubber-strips. Also: Jaguar designed one bolt of the oil sump to remain inaccessible. To avoid having to remove the transfer-box and the cat and whatnot, I drilled a precise clean 17mm hole thru the side of the transfer-box (and also just wrote the post about that on the same forum).
Great video Luis, My 2.2 disel auto went into intermittent limp mode while driving home from my holiday and i had to be recovered to home. I took my jag to local mechanics who were mystified. After it had been at the mechanics for a week, i saw your video and then purchased a fusebox. I took it to the mechanics for them to fit, they seemed to think that i was talking a load of shit. After another couple of weeks i visited their workshop and they were still scratching their heads. They had not bothered fitting the fusebox, the idiots did not believe what i told them about your video. So i paid them a load of money for jack shit. Anyway, my 88 year old dad and i fitted it and guess what...all problems gone and my jag runs as good as gold. If you had not bothered doing your video, everyone would still be scratching their heads and i would still be shelling out a load of money. Thanks very much Luis, you are a god send.
You sir are definitely a genius, in automotive electrical diagnostics and repairs. As for the engineer's who design dumb crap like that, they knew what they were doing. They're overcomplicating something, at the expense to the owner or manufacturer.
Extremely helpfull video. I had exactly the same fault with my Jaguar x type 2.2 diesel 2007. Of course could not change just the relay Not have tools or experience. So replace the whole fuse box together with black box and wire. THANK YOU very much for detailed information. You are the best!!
Top job Luis. Can't get why they chose to put such a generic yet vital relay on a PCB with no apparent reason (it does not seem like a smart fusebox or "power distribution control unit" or whatever fancy names manufacturers happen to give them - nothing but relays and fuse sockets on a PCB). Agree on the finance department theory.
Interresting video, i had similar problem but with solder cracks on a small internal relay that is powering tail lights, so its with mandatory daylight all time powered. I believe its the temperature that coil generates and makes the failure happen. Hate that sandwitch style of fusebox. Anyway its very clear, that you like this sort of repairs. As you mentioned "its late today", i saw that you returned at 19 hour, it was clear to me. I have it too.
A lot of these problems also stem from the fact that they use lead-free solder these days. In my experience its a lot more brittle than the old leaded stuff was, and causes cracked solder joints when the component is subject to vibration or impact.
I wonder what the people tasked to manufacture that board sandwich must say. That is a really convoluted assembly. How much money goes into that, instead of having a simpler design. Nice job doing the 66 x2 solders and even going thru remelting each after cutting them, hat off.

Hi Luis. How you don’t lose your temper with some of the tw*ts that go before you is beyond me. It’s the same with heating systems. An idiot with a little knowledge is a scary scary thing!!! Congrats for completing it though. Re the egr, on my volvo T5’s, I’ve experienced people changing the recirc bov on the cold side of the Mitsubishi turbo to get it to make a silly noise! It's really easy why they put non replaceable relays. If it was just a fuse box, it was like a 20E piece, but if it has 3 pcb relays in it and maybe an IC, it will cost 200 at the dealer or more.
Great video. Alot of soldering included and great idea how to connect wires back with cooper. Who didn't unsoldered this kind of things don't really know what you are talking about. It is a piece of sh** to work on. Done in past some kind of this relay boards on Ford. With 2nd one that i worked on I didn't unsolder everything I just "cut the relay" and destroyed it and soldered the contacts with wires for new relay on pins ond mounted it externally.
