"You know how they say there's more than one way to skin a cat? We're vegans, we don't do that, but there's also more than one way to make vegan cream sauce" 😂😂
gurrrl, that omelette flipping skill is out of this world. I've tried multiple times making omelette as well using chickpea flour, but have never added silken tofu. Guess I'm gonna go on an adventure now in the kitchen. Love ya
I love your vids. It's interesting what you said about coffee that triggers your anxiety. For me. it's diet coke. I'm slowly getting off it. When the anxiety kicks in, it's brutal.
You just explained everything I went through with my diet coke. My heart palpitations were so bad, I was worried, so I went to the doctor. The first thing she asked me was if I drink a l to of diet coke. I said I did, and she said I ned to cut back, and get off it. I did for a while, and the chest pains went away. If I drink too much, I get them back. I'm slowly getting off it it's not worth it. I just adore you and your vids. :O)
Sarah's Vegan Kitchen I haven't been able to drink caffeinated coffee since I was a teenager. It would give me a guaranteed panic attack every time. Strangely enough though I can drink a coke or even black tea without an adverse reaction. Maybe some mild irritability but that's the most I ever feel.
omg im so glad your fascinated with spirituality! i am as well. ive been following you for a while now. i initially subbed for the vegan aspect, but i found out that you have struggled with depression + anxiety in the past as well which made me feel so much more connected with someone. Im a christian buddhist and have sooo many books i would recommend but "The Untethered Soul" is fun to read and super simple. i'm currently reading "the pocket Thich Nhat Hanh" which is a great sum of most of his teachings- also a great simple intro to buddhism. Also, you're my favorite youtuber and i love your videos. You could make a video thats just making a pb and j and i would still instantly click on it
Thank you for posting this. I have been battling epilepsy since a car accident about 10 years ago. I am eating ketogenically as and adjunct to seizure medication and feel much better! It is a challenge, because I am also trying to eat vegan for spiritual and personal reasons... I am just now being treated for partial complex seizure disorder and and seeing positive differences in my life. I am actually making TH-cam videos on the subject of my battles with TBI, epilepsy and myeloma. I discuss how much of a benefit the ketogenic diet has been in improving my quality of life! My move to vegan eating was a one week challenge to myself, but now I find I can't go back! This is well needed! Thanks for posting this...epilepsy sucks!
I need that alfredo in my life! Great review of Thrive...I will definitely check it out. As far as books go, if you haven't read it yet, "Manic: A Memoir by Terri Cheney"...amazing. My mother has bipolar and I read it in hopes of understanding her better. EYE. OPENER. She write the chapters by mood...manic...depressed...manic...depressed. It gives you an idea of what it must feel like to ride the roller coaster that is Bipolar Disorder. Another great video! Thanks!
I'm currently getting my degree in psychology 😊 I would recommend almost any book by John Bowlby (I personally find attachment theory fascinating), and Attachment In Psychotherapy by David Wallin is also a good one. I can never get enough of Carl Jung and I'm currently reading a collection of his works titled Aspects of The Feminine. And in regards to spirituality, I recently read Unlimited Happiness by Sister Shivani and I do recommend it as well as her TH-cam videos 😁 On another note, I really need to try that omelette recipe 🙌🌱
to me being vegan is life literally saving the life of an Innocent animal makes me happy i would never want to eat the fear and suffering of a poor defenseless creature great video btw sarah the pasta looks absolutely delicious
I really want to try the box thing, can you do a first timer vegan must have in the box if that makes since. Thank you for your videos I worked out legs yesterday for the first time in a while and it hurts so bad I can't 😂😂😂
I just stumbled upon your videos and am now a subscriber😋I cook professionally and have found most other vegan channels either too complicated for my busy everyday routine, too unhealthy, or too simple and not very satisfying.. You have got it goin on👍🏼keep doing what you're doing! I look forward to seeing what you'll be cooking up next!! 👏🏼
Huh, I gave up regular coffee a couple weeks ago because my nervous system's reaction tends to mimic anxiety. This is the first time I've heard anyone else talk about that. Thanks for sharing. Cheers! Oh, also, I don't know anything about nutritional yeast but the Now brand makes the best protein powder. Absolutely top-rated. So I think it's a good brand in terms of purity of ingredients.
I love making spaghetti with a simple tomato sauce and putting it on top of a mountain of arugula with a squeeze of lemon, black pepper and nooch. It's so so good. Highly recommend!
I'm starting the Warrier Goddess Training book, workbook and meditations by Heatherash Amara. My friend and I are doing it for a month starting on Tuesday. We've heard wonderful things about it. I thought I would suggest it to you because meditations really have helped me tremendously with my anxiety. Take care! Love your videos!
Always so authentic Sarah. I watch a lot (really a lot) of different TH-cam channel, and you are one of the most authentic one. Even though you are doing making recipes for kids/family, a lot of what you are making is kid's friendly. I'm going to try seitan again, even though I failed 3 times already (very difficult to take on my dietitian ego) 😊. You're the best!!!
This is the first time ever I am commenting on a video because I think you are so appealing and informative. Thank you for your honesty especially mentioning anxiety & depression and the possible or shall I say theoretical co-relation with magnesium deficiency! Definitely worth looking into it.
Hey Sarah! If you’ve never read The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk M.D, I highly recommend it. It’s all about trauma and how we store it in the body and ways to release it and heal. It absolutely changed my life and brought me so much perspective and peace of mind. I love psychology and spirituality as well. This book is definitely dense but I enjoyed it a ton. I actually listened to it on audible! I found myself taking the long way everywhere so i could spend more time listening while i drove. Hope you like it if you check it out!
When I visited Prague I had the best omelette of my life at the vegan restaurant "Moment", in case anyone is traveling there :) I think it was also with chickpea flour, so this recipe reminded me. It also had potato slices and mushrooms in the batter.
Amazing! I would be interested in trying this. Sadly, there is seemingly zero silken tofu where I live. I may have to resolve to make some myself... And I love the cream sauce! I have been making sauce with white flour, but it grosses me out a bit. I would MUCH rather use cauliflower, and the pinch of nutmeg sounds "right" somehow... :) Oh, and I just discovered that I can lift 210lbs in a shoulder press (this includes the bar weight)! Considering I never lift weights (and am very light -- this is approaching 2x my weight), I was pretty amazed to match my much bigger, heavier, hard-lifting friend. I do exercise every day, but just body-weight exercises, and only for around 2 mins (not exaggerating the time) with no supplements -- just beans and rice (and fruit, and salad, and delicious vegan treats on occasion). Keep it up with your lifts! Time and steady efforts can place monumental achievements within reach.
Is iHerb available in CA? I actually like it better than Thrive Market because you don’t have to pay for a membership. So you don’t have to commit and still creeit to your account everytime you shop. Wow I sound like I work for them haha I just really love iHerb! 😄
Hummus makes a great "cream" sauce too. Sometimes i'll add a spoonful to a bowl of soup to give it a thicker/creamy consistency. Your workout- and recipe videos are very inspiring. i discovered your channel several months ago when i was searching for some seitan recipes. Btw, thanks for recommending Tami Torossian's channel, i've really been enjoying her videos too.
Ayy shoutout to the psychologists 🙌🏻 about to start the third year of my degree, I've been trying to find the book When Elephants Weep (which is vaguely psych related) in Waterstones for aaaages but I think I'm going to have to order it online
I recommend reading or listening to Abraham-Hicks. They are at the source of everything that anyone else would teach. There are several books (also available in audio format), and countless seminars or brief clips from seminars are uploaded to youtube. You can basically do a youtube search for Abraham Hicks along with any topic or question upon which you're looking for clarification.
I ADORE Abraham Hicks. I listen to videos from their seminars all the time -- anytime I'm feeling a little down it gets me back into that high-vibe place. I haven't read any of their books though so maybe I need to check that out.
Book recommendations : -Collected works: F.S. Shinn, The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn: Four complete books -The Book Of Joy - Dalai Lama & Desmond Tutu :-)
Yes! i'm so glad you included the nutmeg! I always use nutmeg in my vegan cream/cheese sauce. There's something about the combination of nutmeg and onion that just somehow makes it taste like dairy.
My minor is in Psychology. I've started reading The Compass of Pleasure by David J. Linden and it's amazing! It takes a pretty good jab at explaining the reasoning behind addiction (in many forms). I had a professor in college who studied and researched alongside him and I definitely love his work.
Oh my gosh. So cool to see you reading the Bhagavad Gita! I just got the "As it is" one a week or two ago and it's so eye-opening. Love your what I eat in a days!
The tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons by Sam Kean is totally what pushed me into the world of psych and really solidified my path for college and my career.
hey there. Try drinking water as the only beverage - hot or cold. Just boil water as you would for tea - and drink a cup. I also stopped coffe because of anxiety, and did it through a transition from matcha tea to good chinese black tea. Then I made cold water infusions (a chosen herb put in cold water overnight) and what I do now is just water or hot water (if I have sweets). A few days ago I had a coke and man was I high on the caffeine. It's a drug maan, and you'll never know until you quit.
I've always been curious what you do for work. Is TH-cam your job or do you also have an everyday job? Ive been wanting to get into exercise a lot more however my work schedule is minimal and random days. Most weeks I work like Tuesday and Wednesday second shift. Sometimes I randomly work a morning shift. Every week is different and I'm curious how I could work into that and what you do in everyday life
I have my degree in psych too :) are you doing anything with it?/is your job psychology related? Would love to see a video on that topic! Love your videos in general though you have such a cute personality :)
Sarah's Vegan Kitchen love your videos! if you're looking for psychology-related books I have a few recommendations depending on your interests! Although you may have already read them. The Happiness Trap is a good, easy read (in the ACT/anxiety realm). Also Malcom Gladewell (Blink is good) and Oliver Sack's books (Musicophilia I think you'll really like!)
dude like EVERY TIME I SEE YOUR TORSO IM LIKE 'OH MY GOD SHE'S BUFF' and i think it's fantastic bc im so happy for u that ur so goddang fit [that pasta over salad looked delicious af, i need to get me some argula and try it out]
This might sound weird but I would so recommend the podcast The Longest Shortest Time. It's a parenting podcast but honestly, other than the parent-oriented ads, I forget that it is. It's really well done and is such a great way to hear peoples' stories, how they grew up, how they think and why they are the way that they are (oriented towards their children/parents). I highly recommend it to everyone as a 22 y/o single person who will probably never have kids lol
How The Mind Works by Steven Pinker, Cure by Jo Marchant, and The Way of the Wizard by Deepak Chopra are three really good books. The first two are about psychology and the third is about spirituality. Cure focuses a lot of the placebo effect and its kind of mind blowing so if thats something you're interested in I would highly highly recommend it!!
You inspire me so much. Your personality, kitchen skill, gainz are seriously goals! I recommend this book to everyone, and since you like psychology books and you have anxiety as I understand, it may be relevant: Feeling Good from Dr. David Burns. But you may already know him. As someone who is struggling with depression and anxiety, behavioral therapy is the only thing that helps me and this book must be the bible of it (though I have no idea, there are probably better ones in the literature lol) It's always nice to hear your singing voice. Lots loves.
YES! I love this book! I read it years ago when I first started seeing a therapist and it helped tremendously. I still use a lot of the tactics that I learned in that book to help regulate my mood.
I have a dab pen where you put in cannabis oil and every night i just take two hits and it helps me so much with my anxiety/insomnia! You might not like being high but its perfect because you can control the hit and a small drag goes a long way since its more concentrated! Just a thought wish you the best
I'm also really into psychology or sociology books! My all-time, changed-my-life nonfiction books are: 'The Nurture Assumption' by Judith Rich Harris, 'Sapiens' by Yuval Noah Harari, and 'Triple Package' by Jed Rubenfield and Amy Chua. These are the books that I try to read at least once every two years to remind myself of their incredible insights. Let me know what you think! Besides Sapiens they aren't long either!
The Teeccino French Roast resembles dark roast coffee almost to a tee. The chocolate flavor is also more chocolaty than the mocha imo. I've been drinking it for years now and I'm just glad I found a coffee replacement that gives me my coffee vibes w/o all the bad coffee stuff.
We tried the Alfredo tonight... it was amazing!!!!! We had to repeat because it was so delicious. As you said it was super easy to make, I think it'll be one of our faves now! I added a whole onion but next time I think I'll add 2 hahaha because it raised up the flavor. Thank you for the recipe ❤️❤️❤️.
I tried going vegan for 9+ months and the end of last year/the beginning of this year and was pretty successful til I got really sick. I ended up having chicken soup and chicken broth for over a month solid cause it was basically all I could eat that would make me feel better. Since then I've gone back to eating meat and I honestly feel absolutely terrible, like physically terrible. What would you suggest doing to start being vegetarian, working towards vegan, and successfully sticking with it? Morally, ethically, it's what I believe in, it's just hard changing habits you've had for 30yrs, if that makes sense. I've tried reaching out to fellow vegans for advice but never got any answers back, admiring your channel so much, I thought I'd give here a chance and see if I get a response.
Can I just say that I love your videos!! :) Your recipes are always easy to make and very delicious, and I love your sense of humor. You always make me laugh! What is the drink that you have before bed? I couldn't hear that name very well. I also suffer from anxiety, racing thoughts when I wake up in the middle of the night and have a hard time going back to sleep. Would like to try that drink to see if it helps me. :) Keep making your videos, I always look forward to them.
Awesome video!! I've been seeing Thrive Market everywhere but until your video here I hadn't bit the vegan bullet. On to check out their products and to sign up! Thanks for that, and for your amazing recipes, I want the chickpea pancake and the cauli-cream sauce in my belly right now!!
Not sure how scientific or educational it is, but dear sugar is a great advice podcast. They cover a variety of topics and will consult professionals sometimes
The Hilarious World of Depression is a great podcast. The host interviews comedians who suffer from depression and they always have great takes on depression and living with mental illness.
As for literature, my therapist actually recommended me this book about shame called "I thought it was just me but it isn't" by Brene Brown. It's not really a scholarly read or anything but I think it's a great read that's fascinating and also uplifting.
i would like to know more about the magnesium calm - i think you called it - because I tend to be anxious too when it's time to go to sleep. all day, i'm good but "as I lay me down to sleep, I pray.....anxiousness the Lord would take" do you hear me. So, if you can share more about that would be helpful and for my 12 year old daughter who has a hard time falling asleep. Great videos!!!
I recommend you read "How to Change Your Mind" it talks a lot about depression and the benefits psychedelics and how psychedelics can change your state of being. It's just fascinating. I think you might enjoy it's a really good book.
I don't think they currently do, but I was able to find this on their Facebook group: "We have been accepted into the pilot launch of online SNAP transactions. The estimated arrival of this launch is early 2018." So perhaps very soon! ❤️
Have you listened to "All in the mind" from BBC radio 4 (UK). if you use iphone you can search for it on the podcasts app. It's about mental health and psychology, and new research on the subject... I love it. :)
I really like your recipes😊yours look really delicious and flavorful unlike some other vegan recipes that look so bland and unappetizing. Thanks for the amazing videos ❤️
I really want to try that POW! Pasta :D I love the Explore Asian, Trader Joe's, and Banza bean-based pastas! I really want to start having brunch again--lately I've been a three-meal-a-day person!
have had issues with anxiety all my life one thing that helped me immensely was treating myself for pyroluria look it up do some research it could be a Difference Maker love your posts continued success on your journey
As a book recommendation... you might like 'the untethered soul'. Its a spiritual book that gave me a lot of insights into the human psyche, and the distinction between our spirit and our thoughts. very cool!
I feel like you're recipes seem genuinely filling unlike other vegan meal videos I see on TH-cam. Great for people with big appetites!
haha yes I definitely can eat a lot. 😝
Sarah Garratt if
Sarah's Vegan Kitchen Love your videos! So full of personality!!
Sarah Garratt I totally agree with you 💪
Simpler meals are much healthier than recipes though. Mono meals of raw fresh fruit, organic pref.
"You know how they say there's more than one way to skin a cat? We're vegans, we don't do that, but there's also more than one way to make vegan cream sauce" 😂😂

inmimisbowl i just made omelettes using this recipe but with cheese, onion and mushroom filling. Worked really well.
I have tried it with just chickpea flour too! That is good but I wanted something a little less dense. The tofu helps :)
Eight Bit I have just had a three egg omelet with ham and cheese and onion and green peppers. Real easy to make and to flip over.
Sarah's flip really was a thing of beauty! I really enjoyed the omelette with some tomato cayenne Chao slices
I love your vids. It's interesting what you said about coffee that triggers your anxiety. For me. it's diet coke. I'm slowly getting off it. When the anxiety kicks in, it's brutal.
So true! Took me awhile to realize it was the coffee. The heart palpitations would hit me by surprise and be totally unbearable. 😫
You just explained everything I went through with my diet coke. My heart palpitations were so bad, I was worried, so I went to the doctor. I'm not currently. (Just an office job.) Sometimes I think about going to grad school to become a clinical psychologist -- maybe one day?
Sarah's Vegan Kitchen love your videos! if you're looking for psychology-related books I have a few recommendations depending on your interests! Although you may have already read them. The Happiness Trap is a good, easy read (in the ACT/anxiety realm). Also Malcom Gladewell (Blink is good) and Oliver Sack's books (Musicophilia I think you'll really like!)
dude like EVERY TIME I SEE YOUR TORSO IM LIKE 'OH MY GOD SHE'S BUFF'
and i think it's fantastic bc im so happy for u that ur so goddang fit
[that pasta over salad looked delicious af, i need to get me some argula and try it out]
I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but I subbed because you make it look super delicious and easy to prep.
Haha ok I trust you! Added it to my list of suggestions. I honestly LOVE learning about how other peoples' upbringings shape who they become.
You are beautiful, natural, fun and I love your videos! 😀
Will try those recipes soon! 😊
Nutmeg is so good in creamy/cheezy things! I like to add it to my tofu quiches, really adds something!
Wish I had something like Thrive Market in Australia.
And when are you starting a singing channel, lol.
Hopefully soon. ☺️ Music was the first thing I really loved (even before cooking) and I want to devote more time to it.
Sarah's Vegan Kitchen Yes, no wonder you have such a beautiful voice.❤️
Sarah's Vegan Kitchen Yes, no wonder you have such a beautiful voice.❤️
Also, could you make a list of your top fave psicology/spirituality books?? I am bingin on Eckhart Tolle and Ram Dass currently
sure I can do that soon! I also love me some Eckhart Tolle but I have to be in a certain mood for it.
How The Mind Works by Steven Pinker, Cure by Jo Marchant, and The Way of the Wizard by Deepak Chopra are three really good books. The first two are about psychology and the third is about spirituality. Cure focuses a lot of the placebo effect and its kind of mind blowing so if thats something you're interested in I would highly highly recommend it!!
awesome. thank you so much!!!
That body, girl !!! You are such a great inspiration ! Love ur videos 😍♥️
You inspire me so much. Your personality, kitchen skill, gainz are seriously goals!
I recommend this book to everyone, and since you like psychology books and you have anxiety as I understand, it may be relevant: Feeling Good from Dr. David Burns. But you may already know him. As someone who is struggling with depression and anxiety, behavioral therapy is the only thing that helps me and this book must be the bible of it (though I have no idea, there are probably better ones in the literature lol)
It's always nice to hear your singing voice. Lots loves.
Just a thought wish you the best
i see you like link, a podcast im really enjoying lately is Headshots, Psychology and Gaming together in one which i love so yeah!
I made that vegan egg and it changed my life thank you :D
The amount of your videos that I've watched lately is insane. Pretty sure I need rehab but it's fine 😊❤
are you still in school? a video about vegan lunch would be amazing!! 😍😍
Awww lol that "uuhhgh" part where you talked about that you used to flip lots of omelets and made cheese sandwiches. So recognizable.
That smile....:-)
That pasta looked amazing, though. Your cooking is totes vegan goals.
That vegan bar is soooo delicious! It's my favorite!
Im not vegan but omg your food seems to be so delicious I will try it out!
Thrive market are so smart! All the vegan channels I watch have worked with them already! I would already be a client if I lived in the US =)
I'm also really into psychology or sociology books!
YES thank you! I am living for all these awesome recommendations!
I will go for the French roast next time!!!
Yay for the growth of your channel!
Had no idea you were into spirituality! Love ya! You are my favourite vegan based TH-cam channel. Your authenticity is beautiful 💓
thank you so much. :)
The pasta looks soooo delicious!!
OMG THE BEST PART OF THE VIDEO WAS YOUR T-SHIRT AT THE END!!!! I LOVE IT
well the whole video was great. love u.
Do you ever cook Filipino food , Or Polynesian food would love to see that?
Rarely, but I would like to start recreating some Filipino dishes.
We tried the Alfredo tonight... it was amazing!!!!! We had to repeat because it was so delicious. As you said it was super easy to make, I think it'll be one of our faves now! I added a whole onion but next time I think I'll add 2 hahaha because it raised up the flavor. Thank you for the recipe ❤️❤️❤️.
isn't it so great for how simple it is!? extra onion is always a good call. :)
I've done cauliflower sauce in the past, but I keep forgetting to try adding caramelized onion and roasted garlic. So hungry just thinking about it!
The overwhelmed brain podcast is great!
I'm glad you like thrive market, I've really been considering getting a membership
Hi😀 I love your videos, you are one of my favorite vegans in TH-cam I love that you are always smiling and laughing is a remedy.
I love watching Vegan what I eat in a day/Recipe vids. Vegan food is bomb AF.
The Hilarious World of Depression is a great podcast. The host interviews comedians who suffer from depression and they always have great takes on depression and living with mental illness.
that sounds right up my alley!
The man who mistook his wife for a hat... its a true story from the perspective of a neuropsychologist.. so good!!
The best coffee alternitave I have tried is Pero. I love coffee and it's the only natural coffee I like.
Never heard of that but i will absolutely try it soon! thanks!
I always love seeing what you eat in a day :) and yessss I love thrive market 😍
The staind reference was everything.
I wish we had thrive in Europe 😭 loved the video Sarah!
I recommend you read "How to Change Your Mind" it talks a lot about depression and the benefits psychedelics and how psychedelics can change your state of being. It's just fascinating. I think you might enjoy it's a really good book.
you just get cuter and cuter every vid :3
Looks delicious! Does anyone know if Thrive market takes EBT? Thank you!
I don't think they currently do, but I was able to find this on their Facebook group: "We have been accepted into the pilot launch of online SNAP transactions. The estimated arrival of this launch is early 2018." So perhaps very soon! ❤️
SleepDeprived95 They said eventually that they are working on it Email.them and ask
They want to do.it
OMG. I love your pig mug I need one 😍
Pug
Have you listened to "All in the mind" from BBC radio 4 (UK). if you use iphone you can search for it on the podcasts app. It's about mental health and psychology, and new research on the subject... I love it. :)
Thank you for reminding me that I have had stuff in my cart on thrive for like a month!
I do the same thing! I just gradually add things to a cart over some time and then buy when I hit free shipping. :-P
I really like your recipes😊yours look really delicious and flavorful unlike some other vegan recipes that look so bland and unappetizing. Thanks for the amazing videos ❤️
Sarah, I had no idea you were a Nintendo fan. PLEASE tell me where you got your shirt!
it's from teeturtle :)
I really want to try that POW! Pasta :D I love the Explore Asian, Trader Joe's, and Banza bean-based pastas! I really want to start having brunch again--lately I've been a three-meal-a-day person!
I've tried all of them but the Trader Joe's one. They're all pretty good in my opinion!
have had issues with anxiety all my life one thing that helped me immensely was treating myself for pyroluria look it up do some research it could be a Difference Maker love your posts continued success on your journey
Sarah, a book called, "Desire of Ages" is a great spiritual read. Thanks for your posts, enjoy watching them!
Watching you before i go shopping and it will definitely help me pick healthier choices! Haha thanks.
Aw. Glad I can help. :)
As a book recommendation... you might like 'the untethered soul'. Its a spiritual book that gave me a lot of insights into the human psyche, and the distinction between our spirit and our thoughts. very cool!
