How is the quality and finish ? I might consider buying one used later this year with the idea of modding it. I will add a neck pickup, a pickguard, a master tone knob and a switch.
Come to think of it, not a lot of signatures have multiple colors. Aside from music man, since their signatures end up becoming part of their core models, but most signatures just end up being a single colorway. Yet Tom had multiple colors for both of his fenders. It’s kinda cool
Technically the Les Paul was a signature guitar. Other than that, which is debatable at this point, I think the Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster is the only signature guitar I know off the top of my head that comes in multiple colors, probably because Eric actually uses them and that tends to be how Fender handles that from what I've seen.
Some of the Ibanez signature guitars have multiple color options, but I have a feeling that at least in one case, Steve Vai, that's because again he uses them.
The thing about tone demos is true, there's literally no reason to do them because we're not really hearing the guitar, we're hearing your amp, speaker, pedals, microphone if applicable, etc. The only real way to do tone demos is to just record a DI and let people download it so they can put it through their own equipment. Unless the guitar has something weird going on with the pickups, like those new multiscale Schecters with the straight bridge pickup (I'm curious to hear how it affects the low strings), then it's just going to sound like a regular guitar. This guitar sounds like any guitar with a standard bridge humbucker. Cool looking guitar though!
I like the fact that you talk about the gear and not just play it, it gives the viewer a lot more about the experience and not just the little they can get about the sound (from a TH-cam demo), KDH phrased it better than me :) Also - 'Cry for You' - Nice (and well played!)
I bought a Squier Starcaster w/ active pickups, swapped all the electronics (Fishman Abasi), added locking tuners, and it sounds fantastic. My only complaint is that the frets feel scratchy on bends; they could use some polish. I imagine the Fender doesn't have that issue? Love that roasted maple
U should try polishing you frets yourself. It's not hard. If the guitar plays really well upgrading to stainless steel jumbo frets are a game changer. Never wear down
Honestly, I would be surprised if the Fender didn't have dodgy frets. Their QC has been really awful, even worse than Squier in a few cases who are much more consistent
I didn't know Fender had started making Fender-branded electrics in Indonesia again. Idk if it's a new thing but it surprised me. Not that it has any actual effect on the guitar's quality but still interesting to note ig
I love how it looks but in regards to everything else, it's just a regular-ass guitar with one pickup that's made in Indonesia and has basically all the same specs any other Fender or Squier guitar does like the fretboard radius, presumably nickel frets and the big fuck-off heel where the neck meets the body - all of which I don't like. Honestly if it was a brighter pink I'd still buy it.
I gotta say I don't like the strat-style headstock. I want a Starcaster, but I want it with that weird headstock with the big stripe on the bottom. But when they come out with the Tom Delonge Signature Samsung Smart Fridge, I AM IN!

For real. I had a Daphne blue one, the Stratocaster sucked so bad, I am hoping the Indonesian made one is better quality. Lately everything from fender Mexico is so bad.
@@plantain.1739 for sure! And that is the worst part, I’ll gladly pay what something costs but I better see the quality of what I’m paying. When the cheapest fender starts at almost $900 I at least should see a good setup in the guitar, and that is not the case anymore. I love my strat but it is an expensive one. Esp and Schecter have guitars well below fenders prices delivering way better quality.
Was surprised to find out it’s an Indo. I must have missed when Fender started doing that for electrics. I remember Modern Player series models were made in China some 10 years ago or so, but I think I have not seen an Indo Fender ever before.
I've tried to do builds like this...tune o matic bridges with bolt on necks in angled pockets. They just never set up well. Its SO much easier to use a tiltback headstock with a TOM bridge (or recess the bridge.) It's just a truly bizarre design choice. The lack of a tone cap to roll off some signal on a fairly cheap-o shrill ceramic Duncan is also another bizarre design choice. This one should have been left on the "bad ideas" pile.
I must somewhat disagree with you on the “does nothing to your tuning stability”. Actually when you have a non-locking vibrato and divebomb it a lot, locking tuners do help with tuning stability. For a fixed bridge like here - yeah, more of a convenience feature.
To be honest, if you're wrapping the strings properly, stretching them to take out the slack, and you have a well cut and lubricated nut, then non locking tuners will be fine. The problem is that a lot of people don't do a particularly good job of doing that with new strings, so they play the guitar and it goes out of tune because the strings aren't as tight around the post as they should be, then they swap over to locking tuners that give less room for error and their perception is that locking tuners fixed the issue with their guitar, when in actual fact it's often a setup issue that requires knowledge and patience to troubleshoot for each guitar as well as some degree of technique on the part of the player to get it right. I love locking tuners because it's much more convenient, but it's exceptionally rare that you'd actually need to upgrade the tuners on an instrument that's not absolute garbage to begin with.
Sucks that these are the only starcasters to not be just black, white red tan and sunburst.. I hope eventually we'll get affordable starcasters in blue or some sort
