glad they finally made it out of early access, ive been following its development since pre-alpha

I actually played something like this game back in 2011 on the early samsung reading tablets, the only difference is that on the early version you were locked to a small town (or it may have just been me not making it past the tutorial).
Otherwise the graphics, gameplay, and almost the name (the old name was very similar but not the same as the current name) are exactly the same as i remember, only you have 100 million for whatever reason.
For some reason i was never able to find it on the same device again and it didn't show up on the app store by the same name.
I also distinctly remember the yellow padlocks on the roads out of the town
That's literally what I thought when I saw it, this has to have been made by the same team dude

The lore of the game is that America initiated a nuclear war and 600 years later the survivors are picking up the pieces in an ongoing nuclear winter.

@@airplanemaniacgaming7877 most of the reason the three mile island incident was so historical was not only because this is was the first nuclear meltdown (which simply put didn't output enough radiation into the environment to be considered anywhere near dangerous.) but mostly the fallout of how poor their PR strategy was. This incident is probably one of the biggest reasons why nuclear reactors have basically fallen out with the public and why most of them have started to be decommissioned.

Random fun game dev fact, the really weird stretched headlights thing is because some developer in his infinite genius decided to use whats called Vertex lighting, where you calculate the lighting per vertex on the 3d models instead of the modern standard of Pixel lighting, where lighting is calculated per pixel on the screen. Vertex lighting can look okay if its a room with a static light, and enough vertices to make it look decent, something which early 2000's games did because its better on performance, but they did it on open fields, today, with barely any vertices...
Since it was very clearly originally a mobile game it makes a bit more sense-it was just a few years ago that pixel lighting was expensive for lots of lower-end devices. Definitely looks awful here tho

Oh my god I remember playing this game on my ipad. There were fines for skipping weigh stations and running lights but we solved it by just driving on the opposite side of the road.
Also the mobile version definitely had multiplayer.

I think the reason why the map is so messed up is because they made the game world first and then made the map for it, so they had to put the cities on the map exactly where they appeared in the game world, leading to that mess.
I like how they gave you the option to have it "carrer". Would be better to have a "carrest" option too though. Driving games need options for the amount of car and this game has it.

Clearly Canada has eaten the New England Area, the northern plains, and the Cascadia region while the Dutch probably retained the colony new Netherlands in modern day New York State, causing the British to have to set their “New York” name down in the next best place, on the Chesapeake bay. Also Spain must’ve done some wacky shit with their colonies, which were most likely kept by them as were many others. The USA must’ve rose much later in this world compared to in our timeline. The Gulf of Mexico apparently doesn’t exist either, so the tectonic plates are different too. Blessed or cursed alternate history scenario? You pick. Also 15:54 IS ACTUALLY an accurate depiction of the average American muscle car driver trying to show off.

if i remember correctly, this game has a glitch were the acceleration of the truck is infinite in reverse. I recall reading that some one surpassed light speed after reversing for a hour

I think the weird headlight behavior is because the headlights are a gourad light source, which uses gradients between polygon verticies. This works fine when you are in an environment with small and regularly spaced polygons, not so much in wide open spaces that are trying to use as few polygons as possible.
