Ive had to actively force myself to smile more when just out and about and even at parties otherwise people actually dont approach me, i didnt realise the severity until i saw a photo and i looked MADDDD
And then when you do smile people get creeped out cause they aren't used to seeing you smile. At the same time you feel insecure cause it isn't authentic.
@Effect if its a small comfort for you: when i work with people who seemingly look like they would beat you up for speaking to them, they are always people with very nice personality and always have topics which they passionately talk about. so, even though you have a "mean" looking resting face you don't really need to force to smile.

Many years ago my only cardio was going to aerobics classes. (I hated running back then.) There was one woman who had some military grade RBF. Completely unapproachable. Anyway, she would typically situation herself in front me. (No. No eye contact. we all seemed to fall into the same place every time without thinking I guess.) The class area had the mirrors opposite the entry. So during the class I happened to notice she turn her head toward the entryway and then her face absolutely lit up. Her smile was stunning. I've often thought about that and hoped that he is still making her feel that way he did that day.
You can still look like a good innocent happy person without smiling , just make sure the eyes aren't glare stares or cold stares . pure friendly eyes says a lot about a persons thoughts

I'm Autistic and I depend on facial cues to get by. I have had incidents where I ended up running away from conversing with someone because they looked unfriendly. It was super awkward later when they turned out to be really friendly and some of the most genuinely nice people I have met. I feel ya sister❤

I'm an introvert with a little bit of social skills. So when I decide myself to be sociable, I find it easier to talk with smiling and open people. But recently, I realized that the people I thought didn't talk to me "because they didn't like me and know I'm introvert" actually ARE the introverts ones. I mistaken them for cold popular people, when in fact, they thought I was a social butterfly and couldn't approach me. The funny part is that we are all introverts and would be great friends. I think it's because of that that introverts are usually friends with extroverts.

@@_786RP it's a balance. u don't have to "pretend" to be fake smiley. but it can be ur tone of voice that communicates warmness. without having to "force" smile. unless u want to others to see u as more approachable. then that is something to work on. look at somehting on them maybe a shirt. shoes, hairstyle if u like it tell urself i really like that shirt. when u talk to them it will come out. in ur body language.

For me it's my RBF paired with the habit I have to look at nothingness when I'm thinking. So if you're in my view, it'll look like I'm glaring at you even though I'm looking *through* you lol I had 2 coworkers and my manager think I hate them because it happened that they were in my view a few times so they were met with "the glare"

Anyways, here is a brownie recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 F (175 C) and grease a baking pan.
2. Melt 1 cup butter, mix with 2 cups sugar.
3. Add 4 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla; mix well.
5. Sift in 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup cocoa, and
1/5 tsp salt; stir.
1. Optional: add 1 cup nuts or chocolate chips.
2. Pour into the pan, bake 25-30 mins.
3. Cool completely, Cut into squares, and enjoy your brownies!

Because my face muscles made a habbit of not moving due to me almost never smiling, every time i do smile as an exception it looks weird and way too forced, like that "smile" Schwarzenegger did in the Terminator 2, when young John Connor taught him how to smile...so i thought to myself since my face muscles feel too weird cuz they aren't used to that - then i better be off without trying...so i'm back to my usual grumpy self...
Not to be confused with laughter though! It is actually quite easy to make me laugh like a maniac and that may sound ironic, but the things that make me laugh is usually just mostly random sarcastic humour...

As a indigenous woman, I FELT THIS!!! We all have a rbf and our cheekbones (blessed) do not help with that 😩 I never wanted to look mean so overtime I naturally lift my face to seem more softer. However when im tired or zoned out, I rest my face. The first time i was tired around my boyfriend's family, they thought i was PISSED and asked my bf if i was ok 😭😭😭

Many years ago my only cardio was going to aerobics classes. (I hated running back then.) There was one woman who had some military grade RBF. Completely unapproachable. Anyway, she would typically situation herself in front me. (No. No eye contact. we all seemed to fall into the same place every time without thinking I guess.) The class area had the mirrors opposite the entry. So during the class I happened to notice she turn her head toward the entryway and then her face absolutely lit up. Her smile was stunning. I've often thought about that and hoped that he is still making her feel that way he did that day.
You can still look like a good innocent happy person without smiling , just make sure the eyes aren't glare stares or cold stares . pure friendly eyes says a lot about a persons thoughts

I'm Autistic and I depend on facial cues to get by. I have had incidents where I ended up running away from conversing with someone because they looked unfriendly. It was super awkward later when they turned out to be really friendly and some of the most genuinely nice people I have met. I feel ya sister❤

A lot of people thought I was really "snobby" "dark" or "negative" when in reality I just had social anxiety and didn't know how to act around other people that I'm not close to. And I distinctively remember a stranger (in an irritated tone) randomly asking me why my expression is like that. Idk those experiences really affect my self esteem. I can actually be really cheerful and bubbly around my close friends

Everyone asks me if I'm okay all the time because for some reason when I walk I'm always looking down and when I zone out apparently I look 'sad'
I'm an introvert with a little bit of social skills. So when I decide myself to be sociable, I find it easier to talk with smiling and open people. But recently, I realized that the people I thought didn't talk to me "because they didn't like me and know I'm introvert" actually ARE the introverts ones. I mistaken them for cold popular people, when in fact, they thought I was a social butterfly and couldn't approach me.
The funny part is that we are all introverts and would be great friends. I think it's because of that that introverts are usually friends with extroverts.
