  • The CB750 FINALLY gets a seat! So many of you have been asking about the torn and worn seat on this bike and now we have a solution with a perfectly used replacement seat from another viewer! I did not want to put a new seat cover on this pan as it would have simply looked too new on the aged bike.
Until now my main goals have revolved around making the bike mechanically sound so I didn't put any effort into the seat which is why you may think it took me so long. Now with the side covers fixed and tank polished it was time to do the seat.
Special thanks to Rex and Todd for reaching out and trading me for this as it is the absolute PERFECT seat for Pati! Thank you!

You are doing a great job on the bike. Your work shows very well the difference between a repair and a restoration. Almost everyone can write a list and reorder everything that doesn't work or is broken. But in loving detail work to restore the original parts, that's where it ends for most people. Make the switches work again and put new wires, fix the old side cover instead of just ordering a new one. And replacing the missing cover with a cover that is just as old, that is definitely restoration. If you keep changing parts, it's not the bike you started working on. No option. The motorcycle is approaching its 50th birthday, and that's how it should look like. Old but properly maintained.

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

In regards to patina I definitely agree. I don't want it on everything but this bike was just oozing character and you simply can't duplicate that. I don't want to fake anything so thats why all parts like the badges, covers, grips, exhaust, and of course seat are very selectively chosen to keep all things even. Much more detail has gone into this than many will ever know!

I think to some extent you've misinterpreted the seat comments as focusing on the negative. I really think it was more about matching "patina". To the viewer, the damaged seat didn't match the patina of the rest of the bike. If, for example, you had fixed the rip with some black duct tape, that would have done it. Anyway, regarding perspective, you might want to look at the positive in all those comments as evidence of interested viewers 🙂

  • @sjv6598
    @sjv6598 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yup I agree, people focus on the negatives instead of looking at the positives. But, you kind of focus on the negatives yourself by pointing out to quite a lengthy extreme about how many people have mentioned the seat. That’s a great looking bike and sounds fantastic with the 4~1 exhaust. My father used to love Honda straight 4 bikes.

  • @ssteele1812

My takeaway from this video is... I really like the "new" seat. What I like the most is that, like pretty much everything you have fixed on this bike, you were able to take it apart and make it right. So much of our modern world is designed to be thrown away that you can't take it apart without destroying it let alone fix it. Even those brackets on the seat pan were bolted on instead of riveted or welded.
To your knowledge, what year would mark the departure from being able to easily take the bike apart and fix it? Is there a model year where they decided to start welding things on instead of bolting them on? I didn't really own my 86 Honda Rebel long enough to try to tinker with it but the 2010 Vulcan I traded it for was a nightmare under the plastics.

I'm enjoying the series. You can't do everything all at once. It costs time and money. I equate the nitpicking people to pedants. It's like they place sounding smart above everything else and then wonder why they don't get invited to anything. I would bet those people have never spent the time, sweat, and blood it takes to get a project like this running and looking good.

Hello BJ. Personally just wanted to say I appreciate the time you spend resurrecting the original parts used let alone the bike as a whole. I have spent probably far too long in some peoples’ eyes myself breathing life back into parts which in my opinion are better than ‘new’ the quality was better then.
Saw the rack, just think it’s 100% cracking job, spot on. Love it.
You let some steam off in the video. I suppose you have to let people comment it’s part of the deal.
Myself I would ride that bike of yours any day and be proud, my cup is half full I guess, perhaps we are both lucky fellows.
Thanks again for the video regards Kevin.

People are weird. Those same guys probably put rims on their cars when the engine has a knock. Do your thing man. Hell, I might have kept that old seat. I’m glad you change those bars though lol.

Hahaha agreed. It just became a bit too annoying hearing about the seat on a bike I couldn't even ride.

  • @madcat4563

I noticed the seat from the start, but I wasn't like it kept me awake or bothered me that much.
Yes, for myself, I would get a replacement cover.
But going with the patina theme, I wanted to see what would happen.
🤣🙈 I also noticed the kick-start rubber, yet I did not care.

BJ, fantastic work. Really enjoying your vids. Where I came from (many years ago - yes, when this bike was new), a torn seat meant a wet ass for 9 out of 12 months. Even on the fine days! Keep it up.

Caveat: Good is entirely subjective. Ride on!

: Too bad you changed the seat. The old one had a story to tell too you know. So in a way, you killed a part of that story . ;)
But jokes aside, I agree most important things come first. So a battered but functional seat is indeed not a top priority. All in all I'm happy to sea you saving this old piece of Honda history.

I have an idea to bring a positive spin to the “Seat Drama” situation.
Take a picture of the old seat in all its glory. Put it on a tee shirt. Add a Witty comment. Something like ; “you can have my old seat when you pry it from my dirty ole ass!!”
Then sell them on your merch site
I’ll take one 4x when they come in
That being said. Nice job on the seat. Came out perfect.

Just don't worry about those folks who may try to be outspoken critics of any bike, those types will always try to find a negative in whatever you may be working on.
I like what you are doing with this SOHC 750, it's very cool and is a survivor, and, yes, the seat may have needed addressing but you did so when you were ready to do it. Yes, it does look great either way! Keep up the great video content and thank you!

    Hey mate,
Something I've noticed from living here in the states for the last ten years, is that there are a lot of people in this country who think their opinion is above and beyond anyone else's so therefore, we, as in you and me etc... should listen to it.
As far as I'm concerned , it's your bike, it's your decision what to do with it. I had a 650 special in much the same condition . Great bike.
Just picked up a 79 cm400t in running condition. Can't wait for spring.

If I was in the market for a bike I would have you do one for me since we're on the same page as how far one should go in a resto with a older bike like this one. Mechanicals are the priority here, the rest is icing. Great job, love the channel.
