Levi should have died but he didn't. Isayama still doesn't have a reason, he considered killing him as revealed in an interview after the finale of the manga, but he reconsidered... without an actual reason. Assuming his editors had a say looking at the new pages that came out for the finale which felt like damage control and makes CH138 look even worse. Hange and Levi should have died, but with better execution. Hange literally shouldn't have died the way she did. Even approaching that chapter, the pacing was way too fast. Either you kill Levi when he literally blew himself up, and kill Hange during the final fight against Founding Titan Eren. Most of the main cast should've died during those final few chapters. But no, Isayama really wanted this Avengers-esque final sequence diminishing the actual impact it could have had if he stayed consistent with killing characters off for simply a reason other than amplifying the themes. What a mess of a final arc and we still say 'Levi is a great supporting charater'. Badass=/=good, nor does overpowered. Makes for fantastic animated sequences, though. Edit: New pages also felt like sequel-bait. If Isayama were to ever make a series that was a direct follow up or spin-off of AOT, it might do well commercially. If Isayama took a break and came back with a new series that doesn't have much of what was written in AOT, basically an entirely new direction for him thematically and artistically, I highly doubt it would do as well as AOT commercially. Just food for thought.

Levi should have died but he didn't. Isayama still doesn't have a reason, he considered killing him as revealed in an interview after the finale of the manga, but he reconsidered... without an actual reason. Assuming his editors had a say looking at the new pages that came out for the finale which felt like damage control and makes CH138 look even worse. Hange and Levi should have died, but with better execution. Hange literally shouldn't have died the way she did. Even approaching that chapter, the pacing was way too fast. Either you kill Levi when he literally blew himself up, and kill Hange during the final fight against Founding Titan Eren. Most of the main cast should've died during those final few chapters. But no, Isayama really wanted this Avengers-esque final sequence diminishing the actual impact it could have had if he stayed consistent with killing characters off for simply a reason other than amplifying the themes. What a mess of a final arc and we still say 'Levi is a great supporting charater'. Badass=/=good, nor does overpowered. Makes for fantastic animated sequences, though.
Edit: New pages also felt like sequel-bait. If Isayama were to ever make a series that was a direct follow up or spin-off of AOT, it might do well commercially. If Isayama took a break and came back with a new series that doesn't have much of what was written in AOT, basically an entirely new direction for him thematically and artistically, I highly doubt it would do as well as AOT commercially. Just food for thought.
