Such amazingly incredible scenery after you got through the forest work area. What a nice hostel with so much beauty around it. The clear water and waterfalls. WOW.

Inspiring stuff guys, despite the ill -fitting shoes - 300 odd miles in and you still remain upbeat! The youngsters would be whinging by now :) Looks like a great trip!

That’s my Durston pitched up at the hostel :-) !!!! . I was camping there on the 17th and 18th :-) . I would have been up doing the Munros on the 18th and left the morning of the 19th :-). I had two dogs with me if you stayed that night !!

Oyaaa??? I saw you and your 2 dogs!! Theyre so well-behaved ...unlike Bobo. Woww...what are the chance we were there at the same time!

I know ! . One of the dogs is scared of humans or I would have popped into the hostel for water . Would have recognised you if I had . Anyway , I hope the rest of your trip is going well :-)

Aw I was about to get on here and ask Christina how the Xmid managed during the windy night...GTOAT as far as I a concerned! Looks like it stood up like the champ that it is!

@@melaniegarden3416 I had left the tent there all day while I was hillwalking and it was unattended. I had used two guylines and nothing needed attention when I got back in the evening. The wind died down when I got back and the Durston was as I left it :-) It truly is a champ :-)

Lovely shots of the landscape on your way to the hostel but can’t stop thinking that, although lovely there is a complete lack of trees. Many years ago that landscape would have been full of biodiversity and plant species. Liking the trail👍

At one point most of Scotland was covered in trees. Sheep and deer dont really allow for natural refeneration and the commercial plantations are unnatural. Sone landowners are trying to naturally regenerate up to the treeline, removing sheep and reducing the deer population. Some are even reintroducing roaming cattle.
All interesting times and hopefully the managed grouse moor deserts will be replaced. Sadly not in my lifetime.

One of my best friends is heading the project to increase the natural Caledonian pine woodland in that area and all the way to the coast. The eventual goal is to have a wooded link from the west to the east coast.

I have heard of that project I think. Most of the remains of Caledonian forest clings on in the places we don't get to.
Best wishes in your friends endeavours.

@BrokenBackMountains The main thrust of the project so far is getting the estates on board with diversifying their environmental and economic model. As you can imagine, many of these estates are incredibly traditional, or worse, owned by uncontactable Arabs for eg. However once the success of the few early adopters have showed that there's an economic incentive to diversify then the reluctance to change has started to erode. It's a long term project, that's for sure!

@@rbreiff73 that sounds amazing. The whole of the uk needs to re wild, the Lake District is another place with lots of desert landscapes

I think if I walked 21 miles in a day, I would have to spend a week in bed, on Oxygen.

It is quite difference between the forest trail and the glen, isnt it?
I swear by my x ultras and wouldnt change them. Salomons just fit my feet. I also have Salomon Quest boots for the gnarly bits. Also good for me,
I am averse to switching to a different shoe.
