- The 2011 A-League Grand Final will go down as a game for the ages, taking place on 13 March 2011 at Suncorp Stadium. It was the final match in the A-League 2010--11 season, played between premiers Brisbane Roar and runners-up Central Coast Mariners.
The two sides could not be separated during the first 90 minutes which sent the game into extra-time. From the get go in the first half of extra time, the Central Coast Mariners would put their foot down, attacking the Brisbane Roar without mercy. It would soon pay off in the 96th minute, with Bernie Ibini-Isei winning a corner after another of his shots was palmed over. The first goal would mount from the corner, with a header being parried by Theoklitos only for it to land in front of Mariners striker Adam Kwasnik to slot home. Just 7 minutes later, the goalscorer would turn provider after his initial shot was saved by Theoklitos only for it to land at his feet, who would pass it to onrunning Oliver Bozanic to slot home despite efforts from the Roar backline.
After the first half ending 2-0, the Roar were almost down and out as the Mariners supporters who made the trip up celebrated. It would soon come to an end late in the second half as the "Slippery Fish", Henrique would accept a ball by on loan Coast Rican forward Jean Carlos Solórzano before taking a 1st time shot that would take a deflection into the net with 3 minutes remaining. After being a team renowned for late goals this season, the Brisbane Roar would score with the last play of the game, a goal by Erik Paartalu from a Thomas Broich corner sending the 50,000 strong crowd into raptures and the game to a penalty shootout.
The shootout would be taken in front of the Brisbane Roar home end, with the away team to step up first. It would be "The Godfather" of the Mariners, John Hutchinson who would step up first, slotting his well despite Michael Theoklitos getting a belly to it. Roar Right Back Ivan Franjic who would step up next, calmly slotting it home. Central Coast Mariners skipper Alex Wilkinson would be up next. He easily slotted his, sending Theoklitos to the wrong way. The hero for the Roar, Erik Paartalu would step up and slot his as well, with Central Coast Mariners's Daniel McBreen up next. He would blink first, choosing to go to his right only for Michael Theoklitos to palm it away behind the post with two hands.
Brisbane Roar skipper Matt McKay would step up next in front of the Den, slotting his home to put the Roar up 3-2 in the penalty shootout. Central Coast Mariners Right Back Pedj Bojic would step up, hoping to keep his side in the contest. He was however unsuccessful, going to his left but was expertly tipped over the bar by Michael Theoklitos's left hand. The crowd rose to their feet, knowing only another goal would be needed to win the title. It was the Roar's first goalscorer of the night, Henrique who would step up, sending the Joe Marston Medalist the wrong way to win the Brisbane Roar the title.
By far the greatest game I have ever seen in my entire life. 2 years on and I still scream at the computer when Brisbane score!!

I remember being at that game and seeing so many Brisbane fans leaving after being 0-2 down. They tried to get back in after and security wouldn’t let them in

haha one of my mates tried to get us to leave and I said, no we've come back from our last match. Hold it over his head for years wanting to leave.

I could watch this all day and not get sick of it. Being in the Den when this happened was absolutely nuts. Incredible.

I was there! Great game. It was great to see estonian giant Erik Paartalu to score the equalizer. One of the best sports memories from my time in Australia.

I have to admit, best atmosphere ever at a match was Melbourne Victory vs Sydney FC Grand Final 2010. 3,000 Sydney fans and 45,000 Victory fans. My ear was sore after the match.

@BrisbaneRoar Fan Never compare to any of the Victory GF's or even some finals games for that matter. You need to take yourself to a derby or even a Sydney or Adelaide game in which we're playing.
