I left western express about 2 months ago after 15 months. I agree with everything you said. I won’t talk negatively about western, they gave me chance to learn the trucking game as a new driver and for that I am grateful to them.
I haven't driven in 3 years. So a refresher is required. Out of all ppl western def responded back. So sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get back up
You told the absolute truth about everything you said about Western Express and trucking out the gate starting out! Don't believe the lies about trucking that recruiters will tell you! It was hell back in the 80s when I started, it's still even more hell now for a rookie!
I'm here at Western Express right now you are correct about not receiving adequate training but not all trainees go out with a trainer on a FedEx loop I didn't do a single FedEx load with my trainer and I was with him for almost 4 weeks
I've been thinking of three companies to start with as I have my CDL but need to get real world training. You've narrowed it down to two now. Thank you!
Don't go to western unless you absolutely have no other choice. Be patient because The industry is ruff. western drivers get treated like BS because the managers know they have no where else to go.
I’ve been trucking for 25 years. I avoid cash advances. I keep an emergency fund and credit cards so I don’t have to carry large amounts of cash. I took two cash advances at my first job because my boss didn’t give direct deposit, they were taken out of my next paycheck including the transaction fee. Never again. Only for expenses involving lumpers and truck repairs.
Knowledgeable I use to work for western express for 6 months contact straight out of school I had a great training I learned how to run moved on for more money more money more rules
Probably going to work for Western Express soon. Been out of driving for around 5 years now and got let go from a few companies for late loads. Not getting any call backs from the better companies. Hopefully I'll have good luck with my trainer and driver manager.
Drove for a year and half with Western Express, they stressed all the time to follow the company navigation. Got me good on Long Island, it said to take a ramp for long Island Expressway, turns out was Northshore parkway, tapped a low bridge.was let go following day.no second chance with them
Had to go with Western Express after graduating, started with Werner but they found a cardiac issue that took months to clear. When I tried to return to Werner I got a "sorry, it's been too long since you graduated, you need experience elsewhere" call from scheduling. No one else even looked at me, so I'm starting with Western. Thanks for the warning, though. I'm not expecting heaven but it's good to have a heads-up about the contracts.
Man this guy explained it so well I tell people the same thing he just said go to another company if you have clean license but western are also good for working with second chance or bad record people both criminally and license wise so well said
I think alot of what youre saying is true, however you can still crush your first year if you're a runner. Just hammer down, never complain, don't refuse loads and be professional with your dispatch. Put your head down and grind. Youll easily make 70k. Then year 2 you should make 90k.
Man stop lying to these people. He just said pay is .40 a mile × 100,000k miles a year=40k. 100,000k miles=1900miles a week average per week. First year drivers get crap equipment so breaks down. Never go home...ever. If your reading this. Any other company will hire you. DO NOT WORK AT WESTERN.
Glenn you're right on about most of what you say. Like you I got a grant for trucking. It wasn't a military grant, so anyone reading this just know they do have grants for trucking schools for everyone. You just gotta sign up before the funds end which is quarterly I believe. I got mine from going to a career center in my area when I was unemployed 10 years ago. Tip for looking for parking is when you're waiting at the shipper start googling where you're gonna end up then look for Walmart, Lowes, rest areas, truck stops and call those businesses to get permission to park as a backup plan or if there are no truck stops in that area. I would make many calls and get like 2 or 3 yes answers vs 15 no answers, so it takes some time, but feels better knowing you got permission to park inatead of not knowing if you're gonna get towed in the middle of your sleep
I worked there for 4 months and left. They had me in NYC every other day. That was 7 year ago. Left them went to USX for 6 years than Crete for the last 2 years.
6 months at western solo company i never seen more that an $800 check nor more than 2115 miles on a week. Actually i only got two $800 checks and only averaged $500 a week.
My recruiter at Western Didnt tell me Anything 😂 Conversation was really just a " i applied he texted i accepted the clearinghouse an he booked my ticket " .. Thats ittttt😂
Some of what u say is true but a lot of it has to do with the person. You can crush it your first year with any company if you are a trucker and not a steering wheel holder, flip flop, or inspiring rapper
The only problem with these trucking companies is they all need experience. I just got my cdl & applied everywhere. Werner call said they need 6 months experience, they even told me to go to Western & hung up on me. Fedex call & looking for a minimum of a year experience, hung up on me. Applied at western & i start on the 6th 🤣🤣🤣
I agree with you 100%. When you’re new you’ll get lots of miles cause you’re doing it for peanuts. Then you’ll realize that a 700 miles run pays exactly the same as a 100 miles run, yep that’s correct when you do short runs you will get what they call minimum payment which is 200 bucks for the load. OTR with Western is not worth it. I did both with them and trust me is not worth it unless you never want to come back home.
@ To me regional is a better deal cause with western before you start your week they already know what you will make that week. You can make 800 bucks doing regional and only drive 1000 miles or you can drive 2100 miles doing OTR and make the same. I’ll be Honest I loved how with OTR I got to see the entire country and do miss it, but the money to keep doing it wasn’t there.
@@keymakerkeymaker3316 thanks for letting me know and hopefully that’s true because I don’t want to go on with them and have the same horrible experience everyone else is talking about. All I need to do is do a safe job and bring home some money and pay off this school debt, that’s my main concern. I just don’t wanna go over with them and they don’t pay me or they play games and all that other bs, I don’t have time for it. I only plan on doing regional driving for right now until I get things situated. Thanks! I’m glad you had a good experience there doing OTR.
I take CBD oil for back pain so I left in 2019. I do electrical work now. Way better, way more freedom, way more privacy. I drove truck for years and overnight things changed.
Sum individuals just can’t help but express ignorance. … this video is obviously for those that really need to get their foot in the door, with the “opportunity” to even gain the 3-6 months experience, that many companies won’t even offer.
It’s a known fact that, there’s “plenty” of individuals that doesn’t have an engineering degree, let alone a degree…. That’s the whole purpose of one even tuning in to gather information in the career field, that best suits them, in this current moment.
I don't get why anyone wouldn't weigh unless the load is really light. It's not a race to get to the customer. Things happen and that's a different story, but if the dispatch doesn't account for time to weigh, fuel, or your 30 and a little wiggle room then that's on them. Don't ever rush to beat the clock because that's how mistakes and accidents occur.
I'm ashamed to say that I currently work for WESTERN EXPRESS. EVERYTHING U say is true glen. I've never made $1,000 in a week. Average pay between $500.00-$700.00 max after taxes. Bloomington, CA. terminal is a joke. Weekends are always hard to find parking for a trailer at the terminal. Drivers have problems for their personal vehicles to find a parking space for their car.
Man i will never go to western express in my life. Dont even know why i went cause i havent been to prison. This company a joke. All the dm had quit when i was there. Sergent the black guy was the realist there. He told the truth. And yes i went with 1400 cause i knew they wasnt going to pay shit. The hotel is by a liquor store. That why most was broke, and no the trainer wont pay for your meals. I had a good ass trainer. He just left. Home time suck with this company they keep u away from your state. They kept me in Maine getting that water which sucks
I had to pay for one student and it sucks. He actually turned against me, saying I wasn’t trainer material and said some very mean things to me, but my last two trainees were glad to have me because I did not train the way western express wanted me to train … looking back I would never pay or give money to a trainee ever again. If I had to do training again, I would make sure they get money from someone before they get on the truck Western express makes so much money especially how they lowball everyone. and then they exploit us like we have to feel sorry and help the students out on my last company. The cash advance was $200. It’s just like Trump asking everyone to Pitchin for his campaign!!!
