Hello peanut gallery! I'm jumping in to a new Crumb Quilting series that I know I'm going to love! I'm already totally addicted. This video shows you how to get started with piecing. I'm thinking I'll take this series into a quilt, at least a small one. And I might have to keep it! lol I hope you enjoy! xoxo
I have watched these at least 10 times, because the first time I made my first quilt ever and it will be a heirloom for my great grand daughter. I was so proud. I cried because all my life I was told I was nothing and could do nothing. Then I made something stunning, because of you. You are the best, most down to earth, easy to follow, humorous, caring teacher ever. I will always love the gift of me I received through you.
I had to come back to where it all started...3 weeks ago I discovered crumb quilting with you when I did a search on scrap quilts and now I’m hooked. No matter which video I watch I have thoroughly enjoyed it! You are an amazing woman with such a wealth of knowledge. Your creativity is fabulous but the absolute best is your delivery...you make learning so much fun! Even when you are just chatting I find myself totally absorbed. I have almost finished the crumb quilt top that will be for my daughter for Christmas. It’s totally done with Christmas fabric and I’ll send a picture to the Peanut Gallery when it’s finished. I have so many crumbs left over that my brain thinks a tree skirt would be just the thing! Never change girl cause you’re the best :)
OMG. You had me captivated! So much so. My cup of tea went cold. I didn't even have a sip! Love it. Love it! So fascinating. Can't wait for the next one.
I so love you Darlene. You have no idea the impact you have made in my life. I am back to living. I am making a crumb quilt. Yes me, Frances. My grand daughter laughs at me cause I talk to you when your talking. You are such a ray of sunshine. Thank you so much. You have touched my life.
I love crumb quilting and enjoy your videos. It feels like I'm sitting across the table from you! Wish I could figure out how to upload a photo of my quilt.
This is a great video! I did some crumb quilt blocks last year, and it was so soothing! I spent one long afternoon sorting all my grocery bags of small scraps into little boxes by size (1-2". 3-5" smaller sizes, medium sizes, larger sizes) then took all the smaller than 3" sizes the next day and just sat and sewed them all into pairs, then the pairs into pairs, etc., until I had several pieces almost as big as placemats. Then I cut the placemats into small rectangles about 4" x 7" and set them aside for a while. Weeks later I had some more spare time, so I cut a bunch of strips out of some white cotton, then framed all the rectangles into blocks! It was so relaxing and mindless! One of these days I'll put them all into a quilt and finish it off. Maybe sooner, now that I've found your video! Thanks!
I love it that, while I watch your videos sipping my tea, I feel like I'm in the room with a good friend who is sharing crafting with me, and I so have to make one of these quilts. I don't have many scraps or crumbs, so I think I'll have to get snipping and make some thank-you for for sharing your love of crafting in a friendly, no nonsense, easy to follow way x
I knew there was a reason why I couldn't throw away any teeny weeny pieces. Feeling very inspired and off to watch more of your videos. Thank you. Bloomin' love it xxx
This is for real?????????????? I am so excited!! I've been trying to find a way to go through my little scraps so my friends stop calling me a hoarder. I've been saving them on purpose... that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Did I ever need to see this video. I get so wrapped up in getting the points pointy!!!! I stop having fun...Darlene you are a breathe of fresh air. Keep having fun and I am going to make a crumb quilt with no rules...Thanks!
Hello Darlene, you are truly the best ☆ I have never watched anyone so much on TH-cam. I found you searching for quilt as you go and you had me at WONKY♡ I even read comments and found your link for your sewing machine and you brought tears to my eyes. Thank you and God bless you and all you do.
Oh Darlene, just love this. You make it so much easier than any others I have watched. If it wasn't so early in the morning, I would go over to my sewing room and try a few. Husband is sleeping so will not. It's only 6 AM. Lol.
I never heard of a crumb quilt, so I had no idea the other day what to expect. This was a lot of fun. Absolutely will save my crumbs from now on.TFS ❤️
I love your tutorials Darlene, so informative and the "crumb" quilts look so easy to do. I'm still gathering scraps of fabric but once I have enough I'll certainly try this. Thanks once again.
Darlene I’m having so much fun, I have been making crazy blocks I’m not good, but I’m having so much fun, I’ve done a few and I think of you because when I see tiny pieces I am overjoyed I can’t stop, but now that I have watched this video again I see what I’ve been doing wrong so tomorrow I start again with a whole new outlook, thank you so much.
Very good demo. I really like your use of scissors instead of the rotary cutter. Now I am excited about those tons of scraps and crumbs I have been saving for more than 20 yrs.
Hi Darlene! Thank you for showing this technique. I am a scrap junkie! I just wanted to say though how I LOVE that you are stitching on a vintage machine! I can tell that it's a Singer slant. I've got four of them! Don't you just love those old machines!
Hello from WYandotte MI Darlene! I watched the entire series and I created my first 5 blocks today. You would be proud! lol Thank you for the inspiration.
I have watched numerous videos while deciding how to get started on quilting and what i want to do and yours is the one i like the best...you seem much more chill and easy to listen to...thanks for making it bearable! Sue
I love this crumb quilt idea........I do use a rotary cutter rather than scissors, but I love your idea of the no ironing, and the scissors......Thanks for you laughter, your sense of humor.......I am gonna start watching more of your wonderful talent and abilities...
I LOVE the simplicity and the no-fuss of this!! I can't wait to give it a try:) I've always been too intimidated to start quilting because it seems so complicated and tedious. But this I think I can do! Thanks for sharing !!
Just watched this series twice cos I'm a true newbie. Have gathered all my scraps and am about to start crumb quilting. Wish me luck, lol. Thanks Marlene.
I love your video! I'm lol at your quips, and excitement at little fabric scraps because I can totally relate! I've been researching and having fun beginning making crumb squares. You are putting the scraps together as I had wondered if I could do that... Trying not to break the rules. You know? So I'm rejoicing. LoL
Hi Darlene, I've just finished my first ever crumb quilt top, I thought it would never end. I couldn't image sewing all those tiny little bits together, (mind boggling) but I did it! Now to add the wadding and backing. Thank you so much for your tutorials!!
Good Evening Darlene, that's so much for your teaching and sharing your sewing pattern, it's so easy to learn from you. So now I'm going to pull out my sewing machine to sew my pieces of material to sew it now. Again thank you so much for sharing and teaching.
Hi I just got through watching your video about the crumb quilt. That is so cool. I can't wait to start saving my crumbs. I love all your videos and you seem to be such a happy, loving, go lucky kind of person. Keep up the good videos and have a great day.
i am addicted to crumbs as well. i recently bought the 12 inch log cabin die and I use it for all my scraps. i absolutely love scraps. hope this is a long series
You mentioned having a container of little scraps that you intended to cut up and put into stuffed toys but haven't gotten to them yet. Here's what I do, I pour oil over them (Yes OIL!) and use them as kindling to get campfires going. I live in northern Minnesota on a hill above a lake on 20 acres of woods and we love having evening campfires. Virginia Clearbrook MN
Hello I love this!! I also wanna say I love your channel in general!!! I love how you can see your personality throughout all your series and videos. Your videos lift my spirits while they haven't been up lately, please keep it up!
Hi Darlene! I found out about crumb quilts on Pinterest. It peeked my interest, so I did a search on TH-cam and stumbled upon your channel. I'm so glad I found you. I adore you. You have the best personality . You make it fun and easy to understand. I'm like you, I like to make quilt blocks, but I don't like to quilt. I haven't made anything in years and you inspired me this weekend. I almost have my first block done!
I just found your channel last week. Love your ideas and your personality!! You gave me confident that I could do a crumb quilt. Last night I started and tonight I have 30 squares completed So excited. Thank you so much
Love your video shows. I have a great thread tip for everyone. First take two pieces of fabric, one put under your presser foot before piecing your scraps, sew on it, then piece your pieces ,the other piece is sew after you do your small piece or after you do your strip. The last piece that is sewn on leave it under the presser foot for the next piece or strip. this will save on losing a lot of thread. I use my little pieces up until it gets to bulky for my machine to sew on them. Toss the two and start with two more pieces. I know it is extra snipping with your scissors, but in the end ,it saves a lot of thread
Newbie quilter here... I love your enthusiasm! I adore chaos in my painting so I was hoping to find a way to put that into crafting. Thank you for this series
I have got bags and BAGS of teeny scraps that I scavenged out of the waste bins at my quilting group. Your shoutout to Olmzara's Clam's crumb quilting video earlier this month inspired me, but you have MOTIVATED me! Gonna do this. To quote my favorite TH-camr, "Do love!"
Your video demystifies how these odd ballpieces are managed. I''m blown away how it takes cutting only straight edges FIRST. Next comes the start of YOUR CHOSEN, 4 SIDED, 90 DEGREE UNIFORM PIECE! YEA!~~ FOR HARMONY OF THE PATTERN.
Comments were disabled for the wonky 9 block. I just wanted to thank you. I made my blocks like you showed. I LOVE IT! It’s for my mom’s “quilt”. Didn’t know what to do with the fabric I got for her. Also thank you for showing me that I can think outside the box about how to finish it. I stink at quilting and binding. You lit the fire of my imagination. You’re awesome 😎
I wish I had a pile of scraps like that!! I'm a beginner so I havent built my stash up yet. I wish I could find someone who had so many scraps that they'd be willing to pass some along to someone in need LOL. Anyway, I love ALL of your videos Darlene! Best wishes dear
Oh boy sounds like fun and more fun! I'm loving you're quilts from crazy to crumby quilts. So exciting and joyful. Thank you. blessings everyone! PS ..confession..i have trouble throwing things out as well. lol But must recycle or rehome stuff. haha we will see. by for now.
I love this idea. I am one that saves every little piece. Now I have a way of making them into something. I am definately a scrappy quilt maker, and love things different and unusual.
Hi Darlene ! :) Ah Ha! I must admit, I knew you would find a purpose for that baggy of scraps but I didn't know what it would be. I am happy to see it become something new. This crumb quilting looks so fun. Must purchase a new car first then back to sewing projects. Rather be sewing then be car buying.
I went crazy making crumb blocks a few years back when we were all doing the 15 minutes of play. I love playing with scraps so I had lots of fun. I keep anything over 1" because I just can't through it away. It feels like a waste of money. Have you ever thought about selling bags of scraps on eBay or are they too hard to part with? I wonder if some of your viewers who don't quilt would be interested? Looking forward to seeing your blocks.
You are like me. I remember I commented on someone's video and they were making little carrots and cut off the salvages and I said save all of your salvages to stuff your little projects like the little carrots. I crochet and save every one of my tails for stuffing crocheted things. Thanks for the video!
I am thinking of making a quilt with my grandfathers neckties. not sure if it is possible. love your channel I started quilting last month an simply love it.
Hi there Kindred Spirit, Love, love, love your videos. Been watching non-stop for hours. I am trying to teach my granddaughter some sewing skills and your methods sound just like me. I've been sewing for 60 years just for myself, mostly everyday clothing. Kids nowadays don't even know what a needle and thread can do. Shame. Of course, everyone's mending gets sent my way. (I truly hate to mend). Loved your raggedy tote video. That might be our next project. Thanks so much for all your hard work. It is really appreciated.
Just found you, Love your ideas and so helpful. I recycle cotton shirts and am making string blocks from them. I really like your crumb idea. Gonna do this also with the little leftover pieces. Thanks!
Hello Darlene, Iam thinking of making a quilt with my grandfathers neckties. not sure if it is possible. love your channel I started quilting last month an simply love it.
I have two garbage basket under my sewing table, one is for trash (paper, wrapping, cardboard and so forth) the other one I use for very small cut up leftover materials, batting even threads......so when that get full....i stuff it to make an doggie pillow bed. So when it get full again, I can use it for something else. Just a thought. Happy sewing!
That's exactly what I have. Two trash containers. Only trouble is the one for threads and bits and pieces never ends up getting used for anything. The bags of those scraps just pile up.
Being new to quilting, I didn't have scraps, before I found you and your frenzy bags, I found Moda scrap bags at my local quilt shop, they really helped to quickly build a variety of scraps.
Best crumb tutorial ever. Thank you 😃 I only have scraps from 26 different fabrics and I don’t want many repeat fabrics in each block. I don’t want to buy more fabric either. Luckily I have a quilter friend that saves her scraps for me though. My tiny scraps, less than an inch go into a really large bag, so I can stuff things with.
FUN!! I've never sewn together pieces that don't color coordinate with seams that don't match! This may help me get out of having to have perfect seams!
Just had to add another comment. I received a birthday box from my BFF in PA. In there she had added a bag of 1 1/2 X1 1/2 inch fabric pieces. Said she didn't know why, when, or what she was going to do with these and decided to send to me. I was so excited. Can add to my crumbs. Oh, mostly all cotton.

Hello Darlene, Iam thinking of making a quilt with my grandfathers neckties. not sure if it is possible. love your channel I started quilting last month an simply love it.
And I have been throwing scraps less than 4"way! Oh MY Goodness!!! This is awesome!
DO love!!! Can't wait to start crumbing!
I'm excited!!! Time to learn something new!!
Oh no, Darlene! I swore I wasn't going to start saving tiny scraps of fabric, but this is tempting.
Thank you so much for these videos! Your passion shines through! I can't wait to start mine!
love it you make it so much fun - this is the first "crumb" video I have seen I am looking forward to the next
I loved your video, you are so good....I have lots of crumbs, can't near yo throw any thing away. Thank you for a really great learning experience.
i am so addicted to crumbs- keep watching them over and over- also have a pile
that i am sewing in process- thx-m
Being new to quilting, I didn't have scraps, before I found you and your frenzy bags, I found Moda scrap bags at my local quilt shop, they really helped to quickly build a variety of scraps.
I have often used orphan blocks .. mistake blocks in crumb patches by cutting them up and adding them to the scrap pieces... Have you ever done that?
Best crumb tutorial ever. Thank you 😃
I only have scraps from 26 different fabrics and I don’t want many repeat fabrics in each block. I don’t want to buy more fabric either. Luckily I have a quilter friend that saves her scraps for me though. My tiny scraps, less than an inch go into a really large bag, so I can stuff things with.
Hi from South Africa. I'm encouraged. Thanks 🎉🎉🎉
FUN!! I've never sewn together pieces that don't color coordinate with seams that don't match! This may help me get out of having to have perfect seams!
I just just watching you! And you are wonderful!! Thank you!
