I’ve still got a full suspension Kona Kuku mountain bike, bought it brand new in 1999 when I got my first job, my son now has it and still rides it to this day.
This channel is awesome! I don't even like bicycles! I'm a motorcycle track day guy but after stumbling across it and watching a few videos I'm hooked! Keep up the excellent work.
I’m still rockn a 06 Kona shred converted to a single speed for the pnw downhill jumps Still going strong but I see a full suspension in my future hopefully
I was hoping to see some of the old original Kona’s from the early 90’s, designed by Joe Murray. Kona has always been all over the place and it’s part of the charm. My first proper mtb was a Kona and I’ve just place an order for a 2022 model!
Just think 620 East Broadway and Deep Cove. That is where some of the Kona shit started. Interesting times, Dan gave me my first job and Jacob sold me my first Ritchey. Pippin was already a legend and we are just getting started. LoL.
Always remember, the CEOs workbench has pegboard above. On that pegboard, among the tools, are two specific items: a shotgun, and a bong. That's all anyone really needs to know.
I love Kona bikes and got 4 !!!! I bought a brand new caldera in 2006, in the last couple of years here in the uk they are cheap as chips, I’ve got a mint 2007 stuff for £80, 1999 mula muni £35 and a mint smoke £60. People seem to buy them new at a premium price and never use them and sell for peanuts lol
Just sold a 98.5 stinky 5 for 450. It had acid ELIXR 1 brake levers and calipers. Hayes rotors. It had a marzi 888 on it marzi rear shock but the seals in the rear shock were blown and the pushrod had scratches so it was leaking oil.
Good question! The team have been travelling around New Zealand filming so were about out of reach with the internet. We'll get it up right after Crankworx, how does that sound? :) - Paul
No issues with assembly for me th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
crazy amount of stock they have. Most other companys would have gone bankrupt a long time ago with that amount of money just sitting around ina warehouse haha
I've just picked up a Kona Bass 2008 Paul Basagoitia Edition. She's a bit scratched up, I'm the fourth owner I believe. She's still around so I'm gonna restore her and enjoy beating the 50 shades of shite outa her. 😁😂
This why I don’t jump into the latest trends until they’re proven , half the time they don’t know wtf their doing just for marketing lol oh well I’ll continue to drop cash
Kind of makes me not want to buy a Kona. He seems to describe quite a lack-lustre approach to designing and building mountain bikes. I would have hoped that there was a little more thought into the design process, a bit more engineering, you know? Maybe they do things differently now, but this video doesn't fill me with confidence.
..........and you think the other companies had it figured out? The answer is 'no'. The type of riding was changing so quickly in the late 90's that ALL companies/brands were scrambling to keep up. Now when you look around, you'll find a large majority of companies have some form of the 4 Bar Linkage design..........and guess who started out with that? :)
Jef Gurney I didn't say anything about the other bike companies, so why make a comment to that effect with the soul purpose of putting me down? I didn't say that Kona was the only company putting bikes together in a half hazard way. It's their video and in my opinion it made them look bad. But that's just it, it's a comments section and I'm entitled to leave my opinion as feedback.
+Carl Do you think being 'entitled to have an opinion' somehow absolves you from responsibility when you make asinine statements and _you choose_ to post them in a public forum? Oh buddy, I got news for ya... the internet doesn't care about your feelings. If you didn't appreciate Paddy's candor in the video, you're welcome to say so...and others are free to tell you that you are a nitwit for it. Maybe Paddy should send you a hand-written apology for not chugging Mt. Dew and being 'extreme' enough for you in this video on the freaking history of a mountain bike company? If you want B.S., go talk to the Pivot reps and have them tell you about their 'Formula 1 technology'. Yeesh.
The People's Champion aren't you just a ray of sunshine. What's with the chugging Mountain Dew comment? Try and stay focused. And then to throw in a trash comment about another bike company. Someone's got issues. Try making logical arguments and people might start taking you seriously! Ha!
I really expected Pinkbike's video content to be pro level, similar to Vice, The North Face, Great big story, etc, or at least rival GMBN.. It all looks super amateur, shaky footage, bad audio, incoherent stories/concepts...I hope it gets better!
Disagree also, just upset that this was not part 2 but just a reupload. If they did this with all the brands it would be amazing, seeing the history of the sport through the brands.
YOU GUYS NEED TO DO THIS FOR ALL CLASSIC MTB BRANDS!!!!!! INTENSE, SANTACRUZ, NORCO, YETI, CMON GUYS YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Yeah do yeti and bring up their frames that snap at weak welds or carbons that crack
Still riding my 2007 Dawg. I put some new brakes and a new group set on it, but it rocks.
I’ve still got a full suspension Kona Kuku mountain bike, bought it brand new in 1999 when I got my first job, my son now has it and still rides it to this day.
I just love how a dob passes by at 2:50 and then again another dog at 4:00
fantastic - please make more videos like this!!!
This channel is awesome! I don't even like bicycles! I'm a motorcycle track day guy but after stumbling across it and watching a few videos I'm hooked! Keep up the excellent work.
My 08 (?) Kona Dawg is still awesome. So is my old school steel Explosif... one of the nicest hardtail frames ever!
I'm happy to see this. I'm really plannning on picking up a second hand kona process 134. The new frame designs are gorgeous and ride like a charm.
Good choice changing the music! Now I(we) can enjoy the video :)
Yep. Removed the shrill whistling. Helped it a lot -- drove me effing crazy.
working at a place where you can being your dog is as great as the the KONA bikes themselves
I sooooo wanted the stab! Man this brings me back
I've the stab deluxe 08 white and blue , its fucking amazing haha
Bought my first kona mahuna today i like to hear about how it all started
So... when is part 2 coming out?
I’m still rockn a 06 Kona shred converted to a single speed for the pnw downhill jumps Still going strong but I see a full suspension in my future hopefully

Liked everything about it!

Interesting history. I wonder if the 'Cascade' name & logo came from the thinking of 'Rocky Mountain' south? Anyone know?
Is that a dual crown Rockshox SID? Didn't think those ever existed. Especially since SID is a XC fork with 100mm of travel nowadays.
Think it was a Judy but pretty sure there was a dual crown SID in the late 90s
're upped?
Cool video guys🤙🏼
The bike in the background at 6.08 ,whats that? Someone?
I’ve got the Kikapu

Wow 70 comments after 4 years.
When's part2 dropping?
I've got the 153 process
You missed some classics. The Hei Hei, Ti bike, or the Muni Mula (Aluminum spelt backwards) and the SEX series bikes. Bring me back to my childhood.
I want this guy to reply to comments. I need to know about my 97 Black Caldera with no serial number.

Disagree 👎

Who cares?
So make your own. Slick.
Kona’s shit
Not sure about buying a Kona after this mess of a video.
