This album single handedly saved a generation of kids.
I get the biggest smile every time I meet someone else who says how much this album meant to them growing up. So many of us really had such a similar upbringing and the perfect outlet with this album.

Long time Cudi fan, but when I heard Rose Golden, it just came at the right time. I was in a deadass job, hours away from family and friends, GF just left.
I was driving around the town late at night and his new album dropped. When it came on man I cried. A month later I decided to move to the bigger city, study and now years later everything is much, much better.
Sometimes you just need a voice, a sign or a feeling to give you that push. Cudi is the current that carried me to a better place.
Fr. Bought tickets to see him last minute at his last show in philly. Best money I’ve thrown on a show and I was in the freaking rafters. Helped that 070 came out and sang Ghost Town and made me cry before he even stepped out, but the vibe was immaculate. Best concert I’ve been to and it was the least I’ve spent on a ticket.
This album is timeless. In 50 years a sad kid will listen to this album for the first time and it will save his/her life.

To this day, I still do not believe Kid Cudi gets all the credit he truly deserves for what he's done for the music industry. This man took Hip-Hop and molded it into his own unique style that influenced so many different artists and producers for years to come. Ill never forget when I downloaded "A Kid Named Cudi" mixtape by Plain Pat for the first time on my IPOD which was released right before he added most of the songs to this first studio album. I hung out with all my friends after school at their house for 4 days straight with that mixtape on repeat nonstop. Cudi is A Legend. Thank you guys for your reactions and input!

Fun fact: Kanye credits Kid Cudi for 808 and Heartbreak. He heard A Kid Named Cudi and loved it, surprised Cudi with a phone call. and flew him out to Hawaii to help him make the album. He cowrote a 4 songs on the album, Kanye said his writing was just so pure and natural that it was important for him to portray that that he cared more about getting that point across than how well the album would do. Kid Cudi changed the rap genre for the better and inspired many of today's artists. He's so underrated and underappreciated by listeners.
First time I listened to "Sky Might Fall" I flipped out. That song is so goddamn good. I love Cudi.

No feeling will ever complete with lying down on your back, staring at the ceiling, putting on your headphones putting on a Cudi playlist and letting everything melt away you as you just focus on the music and thinking of nothing else.
Kid Cudis vocal registry and humming especially is fascinating. Online you’ll find entire threads devoted to his best humming for therapy, and remember seeing a study on him and other musicians regarding their singing and it’s effects on the brain. Will link here if I find it again, but definitely feel his voice giving me the shivers, even now listening to cut clips despite growing up on the music.

@@BoRickersonMcFoosters i think they more mean that when they were down and really depressed theyd play his music and escape their sadness and depression/get more in touch with the emotions they were feeling. Sometimes when you sit in your sadness you cant really escape and it eventually becomes too much. Kid cudi is an escape for many. Im not someone who has had this experience with cudi so if I am putting words into your mouth please correct me, but this is kinda what its made me think.

Your dad was spot on with his assumption about “Up, up and away” being the closer at a set. The first time I saw him in concert he closed with it and it fit so perfectly.

This album came out when I was 17 and it helped me so much. It made me realize I wasn’t alone in the way I felt and he was the reason I asked for help and now I’m 28 and I would not have made it here without Cudi.

These reactions are heartwarming, and it's lovely how open minded the Dad is (sorry, don't know your name). Hip-hop is an incredible genre of music. Just remember that it's kind of like food. There's junk that tastes good without much substance, and good stuff that nourishes. A lot of radio hip-hop is like a burger with fries. Rightly or wrongly, it's what a lot of people use to form their view of the entire genre. Your son is feeding you the best of the best. You're lucky to have each other. :)

Of all the things on the list I miss about him, being able to experience music with him is really high up. Listening to his favourite music like Rolling Stones, The Police, the eagles, I really developed a love for music and the feelings you get when you share those listening experiences. I just listened to this album, and I can’t believe I missed such a beautiful piece of art. This project is one of the best things I’ve ever heard. I’m going through a hard time with family members passing away and this album is one of the few things holding me together. 10/10 album.

Just listened to MOTM 1 for the first time as a junior in high school. It is a time capsule.. I’ve always kind of had exposure to Cudi with Kanye and all of those collabs, but this was my first true solo Cudi album.. incredible, absolute classic in my book

MOTM was influential for its time after 808s and Heartbreak (which he co wrote). Being openly emotional and admitting to one's flaws like drug use was a major shift in hip-hop from the 2000s macho gangster and dope dealer bars (not that either are bad, just documenting that change)

Dude this is my first time listening to the whole album besides “Day n Night” and “ Pursuit of Happiness”because I never thought how impactful and influential an album can be when you piece the rest of the album. Man honestly I should’ve made video reacting to this video because it was that special of an expirence.
This is the first video I’ve watched of y’alls and I love this entire concept. My dad passed away when I was younger and I got my love of music from him. So seeing your channel I’m able to live vicariously through y’all. Because this is something I would love to be able to do with my dad. Share the music that impacted me with him

This isn't hyperbole. Kid Cudi/Scott did more for my generation and those like me than any other artist/hip hop star. Depression. Unreturned love.
(He who increases knowledge increases sorrow). King Solomon said that. The wisest man to ever put words to paper. And it is a universal truth. Just so happens that many of the people who found Cudi and that he helped also happen to be highly Intelligent and gatherers of knowledge. Not all. There are almost no absolutes in life. But many of us are that. Than you Kid.
I'm so thankful that this video exists and that I came across it. After highschool my father committed suicide and I listened to this album religiously for a long time in my grieving process. It truly is a magical piece of art that captures many emotions from Kid Cudi, including lots of references to Cudi's depression processing his own father's death. As a young guy, if I were to see an older person at a rap concert, or any "young people" music concert for that matter, I would automatically respect them for their open mindedness. Too often you see people scoff at the generation below them, claiming yours had "real music". Our generation will do it too, and I hope to be like your dad.

I’m 35…this album came out when I was 23. It got me through the hardest time in my life by a long shot. My mother had just passed away, I had moved to another country, and was hopelessly caught up in my addictions. Thankful to have had it in my life at the time and not sure what woulda happened if I didn’t. I really wish I could of listened to this album with my mom…she would of loved it

Wish he would have heard the ‘Man on the Moon’ bonus track, really puts into perspective how different/self aware cudi was about his sound when the album first came out

Dude yes! I got that exact feeling again when he did Reborn with kanye. Cudis verse on that and the hook was so good. I always listen to that when i need a lick me up or when im happy

I don't have a good relationship with my father at all. He's been verbally abusive and belittling throughout my entire life and has never once showed any interest in me as a person or any of my hobbies.
Seeing you interact with your father and sharing this piece of yourself with him and him expressing full interest and enthusiasm in it is very heartwarming to me.

To comment on the older people listening to "younger" music: I've seen plenty of older people at rap concerts who seem to really enjoy themselves and I think that's cool because I can really appreciate people who don't grow up on that music to open up and be accepting of new things. If anything I'd say people would be more aware of you because they think it's special someone older is vibing with the younger generation.

This is my first time seeing this channel, it has been in my recommended a couple times. I just assumed it was like the other "mom/dad react to hip-hop" where they just listen to meaningless music that you would throw on at a party. I know nothing about the father(not even his name) but I can tell he has a ton of knowledge in music theory. I love how open and appreciative he is to new music outside of his taste. It warms my heart honestly, my father passed away 3 years ago when I was 17, and seeing a bond and just a simple conversation you two remind me of great memories I have with my father. He grew up in the psychedelic rock age. I feel like he would've enjoyed the feeling of MOTM. This is a great channel and dynamic between you two!

Cudi has a massive impact on life, this album came into my life when I felt lost and lonely. It was Cudi who reminded me that im not the only one and I can do better and get through everything
