Your BRILLIANT! This is true amateur radio in action. Don’t need to apologise with your setup! I am learning CW my last time I tried to learn CW was 42 years ago! Love your work! de VK3JCC 73’s
Hopefully, those great QRP Guys will be offering this as a kit in the near future, perhaps even making it multi-band with plug-in low-pass filters like you illustrate. This is also getting close to what I've been wishing for-a small & inexpensive HF transceiver that does SSB not for voice but to handle the digital modes. (People are more likely to comeback to a weak digital signal than a voice one.) Even better would be a transceiver that would off-load the UI and signal processing (via Bluetooth) to Android and iOS smartphones. --Mike Perry, WA4MP
Thanks for your site and promoting this project, it is remarkable! And shows the promise of Low end uControllers. I think a 12 bit A-D and a faster uController chip will bring this to mainstream in the next few years, for about the same $$.
Greeting Manuel from a chilly (its winter time) South Africa :-) Trust you and your family are keeping safe and well in these abnormal times. A note to say BIG thank you for making / sharing the modified QCX video - VERY GOOD, 10/10 I (as I suspect have many others) have been waiting for Hans to release the QSX and then a good chance would order but having seen the FANTASTIC results of the efforts made by Guido I am tempted to abandon that idea and order a QCX (will have to be the + model) and have a go at joining the others who are having fun experimenting . That is unless the kit you mention in another reply to a comment is going to become a reality and will be affordable? As an aside, my 30m QCX is awaiting construction and I keep telling myself that once my code ability is a little bit better I will get back on the air (am currently achieving about 95% at 20wpm using the super app developed by IZ2UUF but not sure if read for the real world) after many years of inactivity... I would like to build the QCX as I have almost finished the metal work for a small but tough enclosure plus have plans to make it dual band (30m / 40m). Looking forward to more videos for sure (no pressure ) but until then keep well and as always KEEP SMILING! 73 Nigel ZS6RN ex G8DEV (l-o-n-g time ago).
Is there a reason nobody in the ham radio community seems to use single-chip integrated low-pass filters and instead goes for the bulky toroid-based ones? You can get the integrated ones for under $10 and they're a tenth the size. Plus there aren't any toroid windings to mess up.
That´s a great question. While I can´t aswer it for the industry, I can at least tell you, why I did not consider them in my designs. 1. Filters in (tr)uSDX and uSDX are more than just a low pass filter. They do 4 things at once: a) provide the right load to keep "class E wheel spinning" b)Impedance Transformation from Class E Load to 50 Ohms c) second harmonic notch to get away with such a simple filter topology d) Low Pass Filter 2. Reason: non-availability for Amateur Radio usecase. As far as I know, they are only available in the GHz Range and not really as efficient, as we need them. (tr)uSDX was designed to create 80% and more PA Efficiency 3. Last but not least: Cost. (tr)uSDX was initially designed to get you started on HF for 50$. If we´d need 5 Filters worth 10$ each, then (tr)uSDX would be way more expensive. Let alone availability of those highly specialized parts we´d need. If you know something, I´ve missed, please let me know. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
I hope they release a SSB version. I'm not too bothered about multi band capability, but if they brought an SSB model out I will be first in the queue!
I don´t know yet, when I will do another Video. Right now I have just finished first Version of the building manual, that will be published on the Project site after approval by Guido PE1NNZ. When there´s changes, that would require a new Video, I guess, I will have to make a new one ;)
Unfortunately QCX are sold out at the moment, and the modification manual needs to be adjusted for the QCX Plus. So right now we´re working on an own PCB. This way you don´t have to buy a kit while only needing half of it´s parts ;) New Project Name is µSDX. Discussion and contribution welcome. groups.io/g/ucx/topics
@@dl2man is there any information on completing this mod for the QCX+. I have a 40m QCX+ that I'm getting ready to build while I waiting for your new ųSDX. Thank You
Hello dimitry. Yes the mod can be applied even easier to qcx mini. We've teamed up with Hans Summers and he was friendly enough to add some changes to his board to make ssb modification really easy.
Great job... did u documented the schema modification? Can we get it? I think the bpf can be switched using relay rather than plug unplug it.. what a fun work have u done... keep continue... :)
Yes, first Version is ready, and should be released today (after Guido has checked for any errors). It will be available at the Project Page: github.com/threeme3/QCX-SSB . This Version with pluggable LPF´s is only the starting point. We plan to either switch it by relais board, or maybe even use a digitally tunable ciruit. Mybe in future, there will be even a whole new kit availabe, since most of the PCB is unused now, and it could be built much smaller. But for now, Guido has to concentrate on the firmware development (Bug Fixing and Feature Improvement).
Probably not by Guido at this point. But it is open source, and if some skilled programmer will see the need, feel free to do it. It´s open Source.....

Very nice demo. I just ordered my first QCX+ 30 mtr version. Looking forward to more SSB info.

Is this mod possible on the qcx mini 🎉?? Thankyou because I’m thinking of getting one ✅
With QCX Mini, uSDX was recognized by G0UPL. It has the mod made easier on board already: dl2man.de/qcx-mini-usdx-mod/ 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

Es gibt jetzt den QCX Mini.... Der ist noch viel cooler und kann ebenfalls modifiziert werden. Siehe dl2man.de/qcx-mini-usdx-mod/
