  • Parameter Sequencers let you modulate device parameters via a step sequencer. They're great for creating all manner of exciting rhythmic modulations.
    There are many excellent parameter sequencers available for free on MaxForLive.com. Let’s take a look at a few of them and see some different ways you can use them in your production.

    I love this tutorial. One thing I will say is that after loading these devices into a project file, I had an issue with my "Undo" feature on Live. One of the M4L devices hijacked Undo and made a loop of commands that I couldn't get past. I had made a mistake and was trying to Undo it but couldn't. Fortunately I had a backup! SO anyway, just a word of caution!

    This is amazing. ELPHNT, thank you so much for your vids. I have a question about your drum tracks (and forgive me because I'm an Ableton newcomer): For, say, Analog Snare, are you using something like Simpler and making a group out of it so that you can create a macro and give yourself that "Decay" knob?
    Wonderful stuff. I'm trying to recreate this entire video and learning a lot about Ableton in the process.

    can all of these MaxForLive techniques be used for live instrumentation? So say I wanted to track my analog drum machine via midi into ableton, can I manipulate it with MaxForLive plugins similarly to how you're doing right now? Same goes for tracking vocals, analog synths, guitars etc? Just curious how seamlessly this all works for someone who's more of a singer-songwriter-producer that isn't interested in using software instruments and inside-the-box drum samples. BTW your channel is SO inspiring. Thank you for doing what you do!

    • @ELPHNT
      @ELPHNT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's compatible with MIDI then you should be able to control it from within Ableton by sending MIDI Notes or MIDI CC messages out. You might need some other Max devices to be able to convert messages to CC, so I'd recommend looking around for Max devices that might do that (sorry, don't know any off the top of my head). You should also find plenty of content online about sending MIDI to external MIDI devices with Live.

    Does that analog snare comes with ableton?

    • @ELPHNT
      @ELPHNT  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that's just something I created myself. But you should try the MaxForLive DS Drum Synths - the snare one can get you some sounds pretty close to that.

    Hi Elphnt! I'm looking for a device that can detect incoming audio pitch and convert it in midi notes in real time. Can M4L do something like that? Thanx

    • @ELPHNT
      @ELPHNT  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure, in theory, MaxForLive could do something like that, but I'm not aware of any specific devices unfortunately 😕 A quick Google search came up with these though: maxforlive.com/library/device/1569/realtime-audio-to-midi-converter-input + maxforlive.com/library/device/1570/realtime-audio-to-midi-converter-output

    Does anyone know of a parameter sequencer like this that increments one step each time you press a key on your controller?

  • @willhenry8293
    @willhenry8293 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Octoseq is great but what's the proper way to record the automation such that you can export a track? I can hear the automation of the parameters when I play my track from arrangement view but when I export the audio to an mp3, the automation isn't in the recording.

    • @ELPHNT
      @ELPHNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try using one of these: maxforlive.com/library/device/2469/automationrecorder or www.maxforlive.com/library/device/4507/automation-recorder. They'll let you capture the automation from devices like these to the track. Alternatively you could do a pass of Resampling the track in question.

    Can these modulate the parameters of non-native Max and Ableton devices? I am about to pull the trigger on Max. I am torn whether to go for the Suite upgrade or just Max. That is my biggest hangup.

    • @ELPHNT
      @ELPHNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, definitely. Anything that you can automate can be controlled by a Max device, 3rd party plugins, Max devices, Ableton devices, etc. And for what it's worth, I'd say go for Suite. All the extra stuff you get is well worth the extra cost 👌🏻

    • @WildAnalog
      @WildAnalog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ELPHNT Thank you for the quick response. I must say that I have devoured your videos since stumbling upon your channel. I really appreciate the simplicity and clarity. Also, I am leaning towards Suite. The issue is mental. I don't want to render my current setup redundant. My current arsenal is quite powerful and I have worked hard to acquire. At the end of the day, it is a balancing act. Anyhow, thanks for your time and effort. I will be supporting your channel after the upgrade.
