When he says "this isnt the space shuttle, its an old lawn mower" no matter how many times I hear him say it, I laugh out loud ever time.. Its the gift that keeps giving !
It's good to learn from a pro who literally knows it all from experience. I love how you retrofit fuel pumps and other brand mufflers (muffkin's) that are cheaper and easier to replace than OEM high dollar parts. Keep up the great work!
I learn a lot watching Taryl and appreciate the time they spend filming, editing... can't beat it. But he doesn't mind working on stuff while the dirt & grime are still on it. My OCD requires that I clean all this away before I start wrenching. Not sure why... it just drives me nuts thinking all this gunk is falling into places I want to be clean. Just a thing with me.
We're also what happens if you want to eat some pork rinds in your hands have all that Gunk on it and I don't know I like using gloves although I get the real cheap ones and they are all the time so my hands get dirty anyways
i have a mv18s and i always thought it was sorta noisy/ticky now that ive heard yours with a fresh valve job be kind of noisy im more comfortable about the slight ticking noise it makes its a super healthy engine good compression
I really like your new black and red pirate logo. The stickers makes my truck look cool and I see you have the logo on your T-shirts too - I gotta get me one of them.
Always loved it when movies would show the outtakes - lets the viewer know that shooting a movie doesn't always go as planned! "Hope I didn't wrinkle your Lawsuit!" Haha! Good stuff...
every time i work on my lawn mower i think of you and your background music , my neighbors think i am strange because i listen to your music while working.
You are the most incredibly talented mechanic and you explain everything so clearly and precisely, I'm sure you are a professor in disguise. Please tell me about your teeth?
Thank's for throwing ronnie over the fence..i needed that...lol..the kroller sounds like new..i hate kroller engines..unless it's a command.. See you one the next one..Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
For those who don't know why the valves was that bad is the vent tube was off. With the vent tube off ,allowed unfiltered in the engine. Looking at the intake it looks it is sandblasted.
Must only use those metal spring washer things on the carb linkage on the vertical shaft engines. All the horizontal Magnums I’ve worked on use the plastic clips....
When I worked in a mower shop years ago, we did many valve jobs on a lot of L-head engines, and always cut the seat down with a NEWAY seat cutter. Just curious why he dosent use one? When doing valve jobs on L-heads.
LOL I totally have customers like that though man completely unreasonable.. Especially the part about giving them something for free and then they complain like they're entitled that's always entertaining.
With the amount of work there is do on these old Kohler’s just for a valve job, the customer would have really saved money by rebuilding the complete engine.🛠

Hey Guys need some help, 4.5-hp Tec lawnmower engine, starts nice runs for a few minutes the dies at this point the engine heats-up big time I ask what is going-on Engine is supper clean I am stumped.
did all that plus changed the carb and ignition coil also pop the bottom off the engine to see if the governor was broken all was good including the cam was perfect. I will not give-up till it's fixed. I could have bought a new lawnmower with all the time invested forgot to mention also removed the head the valves looked good. This is crazy
I've got a Kohler magnum 20 I need to do the same thing to.. Compression is only 48 and 54.. Ordered up the gasket kit n will get valves if need be. Haven't opened it yet. It doesn't burn any oil so don't think it needs rings n a hone. Also has a leak in sump gasket. Replacing that too. Otherwise it runs at full throttle only. Can't get it to run well at idle or medium Throttle. And it ain't the carb or intake gaskets. Carb works great on the other Magnum here. Gotta check the Government mechanism when I pull the sump. Maybe new bearings as well. Thanks for the great instructional. I haven't done a magnum either. Goin in er in a coupledays. .
You should do a gag where you and JR. open a lawnmower daycare center and Ronny shows up , wacky stuff happens then he gets arrested because he’s not allowed within 5 miles of a daycare due to a past “incident”. That would be hilarious
I have a Troy-Bilt Gtx16 with a Briggs Vanguard 16 v-twin and a Troy-Bilt gtx20 with a Magnum M20QS. The Magnum is so much smoother and quiet running compared to the Vanguard 16. I know the Vanguard is supposed to be more efficient and better overall. However, the Magnum runs much better in my opinion.
How about a "Complete Rebuild" of this Kohler Magnum M18/20... Maybe a "Complete Rebuild" of an Onan P220 on a SEARS FF20! I've been having problems with the Hydraulic 3-Point System...😿 Take care Taryl, 🤓 -Thomas Port Orchard, WA (Just West of Seattle, Washington)
Help me taryl the one your my only hope... I am in desperate need of a valve refacer I had one for years I think it was a rotary 1726.. I know stens and Oregon both had the same unit but it must have been discontinued mine finally bought the farm.. I've tried propartsdirect and several other suppliers and no one has them . thought I might give the small engine guru a shot.. Thanks Mr. Dactyl👍
My great uncle bought onwe of those aftermarket pumps for a k series engine and it won't hold pressure. After it sits a few hours it loses all prime. He ended up using a boat primer bulb.

That was a lot of work on the old engine. Enjoyed seeing the grinding machines in action. Excellent video, as usual.
TARYL YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER......
I HAD TO DO THIS EXACT JOB, AND DID IT WITH NO PROBLEM BECAUSE OF YOUR VIDEO.....
THANK YOU SIR.

Taryl really knows his stuff. Outstanding mechanic!

Love the bloopers! You guys crack me up!! I’ve learned so much from your videos, thank you!
LOL 51:53 over the fence like classic SCTV. The use of dummies (tee-hee) in film is an art form.
Taryl nailed it.
Stay gold.
i have a mv18s and i always thought it was sorta noisy/ticky now that ive heard yours with a fresh valve job be kind of noisy im more comfortable about the slight ticking noise it makes its a super healthy engine good compression

Do you not resurface the Valve Seats? Before setting clearance of course. Looks like something leaking (fuel)? at 46.00
Great video!! Thanks guys!!!!🍺❤🇺🇸

i whole heartedly appreciate this video, thank you
I have found the use of guide bolts very helpful when installing things with gaskets and such. It's like having the third hand.
Yes, I do actually have a valve grinder at home. 😂
But awesome video as usual. Currently binge-watching them all
That way a satisfactory thud when Jerkenstein flew over the fence!!
every time i work on my lawn mower i think of you and your background music , my neighbors think i am strange because i listen to your music while working.
You sir, is definitely smarter than you look. Love your videos and willingness to do things right.
you sir are a godsend.........your tips are priceless
Good stuff to learn from and fun at the same time.... Thanks from Sweden...
Best engine ever made.
bloopers are great at the end..should put them in your shows lol
Air travel's picking up again, especially for Ronnie!😆 Nice job, sounds good now. Thanks all👍
I've got my 301 cast iron K and my Vanguard 1/2 VW motor. Both are #1! And I use grease on gaskets when I need help. GOOD video.
Love the out takes at the end of the video.
Good job Taryl. That was a fiddly one.
Love the dancing Taryl!! You're awesome 😊
You are the most incredibly talented mechanic and you explain everything so clearly and precisely, I'm sure you are a professor in disguise. Please tell me about your teeth?
Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the video Taryl. Had to the same on mine today. Keep up the good work
You got that old beast purring like a kitten. I wouldn't have seen it if I didn't believe it :-)
Sounds great Taryl.
Grandma Dee reminds me of my mother-in-law 😂
Mine too. I think my MIL’s head can swivel 360* on her shoulders.
Lol
Funny stuff
I've had 2 and that's 9 too many.
Funny outtakes...Great video.
I think you need to make a BEST Montage of your Skits.
just put a vacuum pump on my m18,drilled a hole in the oil fill tube for vacuum, works great
Love you’re show dude
Always good for a laugh ! Love it.
Nice miniature valve compressor, also a handy valve spring tool, it works the same as a GM door spring tool.
Engine sounds great Taryl! Ronny did get a good deal...low Air Fare!
По твоим видео, я почти выучил английский язык! У меня погрузчик Avant 419 с двигателем kohler cv640, все ремонтирую по твоим видео. Ты молодец!!! 👍🤟
Thank You Taryl
Nice to see how those old Krohler valves work. Even nicer to see Ronnie thrown over the fence.
Great Video, and great job on the Kohler👍
Did you replace plastic bushing that broke?
Taryl, just watched Gary on Scrap it Man. Just to let you know i've subscribed. Looking forward to watching your videos. Cheers.
You've guys are fantastic❤️😎😀👍
LAW-"SUIT" I LMFAO that was hilarious.
For those who don't know why the valves was that bad is the vent tube was off. With the vent tube off ,allowed unfiltered in the engine. Looking at the intake it looks it is sandblasted.
What is the DeWalt battery operated tool you're using? 3/8" drive impact?? Thanks.
Must only use those metal spring washer things on the carb linkage on the vertical shaft engines. All the horizontal Magnums I’ve worked on use the plastic clips....
Would have liked to seen the before and after compression numbers to see how much difference it made.
Uh..no...I want to know how much higher compression bump a valve job does.
How well does that Briggs fuel pump work?
When I worked in a mower shop years ago, we did many valve jobs on a lot of L-head engines, and always cut the seat down with a NEWAY seat cutter. Just curious why he dosent use one? When doing valve jobs on L-heads.
Yo yo when doing up the head bolts if u find the paperwork is upside down just stand on your head. Problem sorted.. good one mate
LOL I totally have customers like that though man completely unreasonable..
Especially the part about giving them something for free and then they complain like they're entitled that's always entertaining.
Kinda like you tube videos.
@@likearockcm very similar now that you mention it LOL
Have you tried gasgacinch gasket sealer, it's much better than permatex? It would be good to see a comparison on an episode.
With the amount of work there is do on these old Kohler’s just for a valve job, the customer would have really saved money by rebuilding the complete engine.🛠
you make my day taryl 😂💪🏻💪🏻

Hey is there parts avalible for a 8 horse briggs model 190402 ? It needs a carb gasket and a flywheel key.
Ronnie gets another flying lesson.....he never learns. Good info on the Kroler ;-)

Taryl, What was the que that it need a valve job?
Jorgenstein's air fuel mixture didn't hit, the sweet spot...Not enough air.
Do you just Google specs or is there some websites you use
She is a pumpin and sparkin 👍
Watching your video in Indianapolis
Always a 😂 love the videos teryl
how much was your valve spring compressor?

Whats the electric oil pump for
Those Kohler are very well balanced engines all the ones I've dealt with.
How many mow weekly with engines in that condition or worse?

Hi tarls what's the best way to get my rusted tiles off my home so I can sharpen
On ford fe valve height matters. The old days 60s 70s refresh 6 and v8s. Nasty engines with oil of those days.
