Tomar Pappe, I was especially interested in hearing you speak. I would like to know more about how you do this Carnivore Diet within the instructions of the Hebrew Scriptural Torah Guidelines of clean/unclean foods. Having come into being Hebrew, I am not aware of others who are doing this Carnivore journey based upon the guidelines set up in Scripture as we are commanded to do. @tomerpappe thank you for sharing your experience and what has worked best for you. I find that generally speaking people with T1D are very resistant to any natural approaches and truly believe there is nothing they can do... From my research T1D is an autoimmune condition, and growing research actually has connected it will both leaky gut and flukes (parasites) infesting the pancreas. In your case i am very curious to know if you have ever addressed parasites... looking at your face i can see dark circles under your eyes which is indicative of liver stagnation/clogging in my research... which is also commonly caused by flukes. Have you explored this or would you be willing to? Flukes are actually one of the first things people pass when starting to address parasites and it's quite a simple process where natural ingredients can be used exclusively... just a thought.
Yikes! I've been a T1 for my entire life, and I'm now 64- I've been on a carnivore diet for 6 years, and I still worry about my risks! Many docs are not happy, and get angry, that I refuse to take any statins, and they dislike my diet, so insurance companies are now making the patients pay for their entire bill, and won't cover people who refuse statins, etc! They want to control the patents choice... This is a sinister move in my opinion. I'm not obese, and weigh in at 129lbs, at 5'5. 🤨
I was very happy to find this episode. I’m a T1D research nurse in the states who would love to be able to get the word out about keto and carnivore, unfortunately it’s not so simple to do so. I have been a T1D for 33 years. The degreed "nutritionist" have giving me very bad advice over the last 30+ years. Having a degree doesn't mean anything. I feel my 33 years of experience makes me more educated than most nutritionists. I have been pushed to consume 200+ carbs a day, and follow the Standard American diet. I have been doing my own research, and listing to better advice from people like both of you. I switched to low carb diet and my A1C is now equivalent to a person without diabetes. I never could have achieved that following the degreed nutritionist. I feel better than I ever have. I found out about Dr. Bernsteins book, as well as Chad Lewis book and read them both which opened my eyes to the bad advice I have been given. Thank you for sharing this interview!!!!!

Thank you again for another excellent discussion. It's excellent to see you speak with people across a wide spectrum. Dr. Chaffee, I'm wondering if you would make a video regarding a few specific issues I'm having. This is something I first learned about from Dr. Kevin Stock. I'm in between two surgeries to open my airways and fix a bad malocclusion. Last year was septorhinoplasty and this year, whenever it gets rescheduled because of stupid insurance, will be maxillomandibular advancement and genioplasty. I'm about to have titanium plates and screws in my face for the rest of my life because of shit nutrition standards in the USA (unless the hardware is removed - it's permanent for most patients). My experience with healthcare growing up feels like being the victim of child abuse/assault starting with circumcision through tonsils and adenoids removed and having teeth extracted including wisdom plus braces at a very young age. This predatory healthcare system is beyond nightmarish which is ironic since it's still new for me to learn we are predators. I was raised in a somewhat religious household, and between what was popular, public school, and ridiculous religious inspiration gravitated to veganism in my mid-20s. I've been walking myself out of the cult thinking slowly but surely since 2020 right after learning the full effects of Brit Milah. BeyondtheBris.com I now advocate for Brit Shalom (a peaceful baby naming ceremony). It's funny that in kashrut, the animals that are considered best are the ruminant animals and the fish considered have fins and scales which I've learned help keep out pathogens and parasites. Pros and cons to every religion. You mentioned religious belief creating an issue in another video, about the push for vegetarian diets helped keep men's libido low. So does MGM. I was hoping you might raise awareness on the channel and perhaps consider joining this group: doctorsopposingcircumcision.org. For my face its titanium hardware and for the rest of me I sometimes use a restoration device and hope that Foregen is successful in the future. Very Frankenstein nightmarish stuff. I wish I had things that were purely reversible with diet and I know that at times when I've talked myself out of doing what I know works best, meat, it's cause I feel like it won't matter since I already feel destroyed to an extent. I'm turning it around and working on myself. Your videos are a huge inspiration. People can change their diets, but as many kids as our protected from this disgrace, the healthier adults we'll have who will have the autonomy and power of choice. I'm 25 and I've been a type 1 diabetic for over 6yrs. I did keto for like 3.5yrs and fell in a deep depression, I am just now starting to watch these videos again and I really want to go back to being my best and actually care about myself again.
Dr. Chaffee: Btw, Dr. Boz's reasoning for the Sardine only plan is because most people don't like sardines at all, or that much, and "if you're not hungry enough to eat a can of sardines, then you're not really hungry". It is a way for over-eater prone newbies to learn to listen to their actual hunger signals. It is also a way to eliminate all of the excuses: "too expensive", "too complicated", "too busy", "at work", "traveling", etc. Virtually no (overweight and/or carb addicted) folks want to or will pig out on canned sardines! She does not say that it is better or better for insulin resistance lowering than eating beef or other meat. It is just an abrupt and very straightforward way get folks just to just eat when they need to, and off of focusing on, fussing over, and craving food. Directions: Eat canned sardines and water ONLY.

I am in learning mode, to be able to fine tune what I am doing (still my legs are cramping, and taking the minerals now) and to be able to answer questions. Great interview. My son is a type 1, so this discussion hits home with me. We were just at his endocrinologist and he was happy with his a1c results. We attribute it to lowering his carbs significantly. I'm hoping I can get him to a ketovore/carnivore diet, like I do myself.

I actually have 2 brothers, several cousins, and several aunts and uncles with diabetes. My dad had it. I became Paleo some time ago, and for the life of me, I could not convince them to change their ways, even when they saw the difference it made in my life. I know all of them love beef, but we were all pranked! by our PCPs asking us not to eat it. I think this easier to follow and to comprehend, maybe this time I will have better luck turning some people into better health! Thanks!
As a T1 D for my life, my Ha1c is at 5.1. Eating a carnivore diet for 6 years, has improved my life! I'm not as tired, and my energy is amazing! I've worked in the Medical Field for my entire carrer, and pull 7, 10- 12 hour shifts working graves! I work just as well as the younger people, and they can't believe that I'm 64! I don't eat in the cafeteria either- Many think that I'm crAzy for eating only red meat, fat, and water, yet the proof is in the blood testing! I'm grateful for the knowledge that I have, and to these physicians like Dr. Chaffee! The impact it has has given me the power to take care of myself, with dignity, and respect! My doctor's still want me to eat their way, and I just smile, and eat carnivore anyway!

I really would have liked to hear more on Tomer's possible connection of being Jewish or Hebrew & following the Scriptural Guidelines of eating "Clean" Meats. He would be the first "Hebrew Carnivore" that I have heard doing this Carnivore journey.
I’ve been on a carnivore diet for 10 weeks. I’ve just had a 1st stage acute kidney injury. The diet they recommended is away from red meat. I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Asthma,
I bet you they wont be able to produce any high level (interventional trial) data to support that claim. The data actually shows that more protein (eg red meat) helps improve kidney function.

T1d since 1980 and a cure seems far away though I agree that with type 1 on the increase, prevention via better food is key (stronger immune sydtems) is key. After 40 years of damage I am better via low carb but have to fight against statination! UK Dr's are told to prescribe if C is 4 or more. Mine is 8.4 but my trig/Hdl raio is excellent as is my BP and body comp. It'd frustrating not to be able to discuss an optimal approach with an MD not mired in dogma. Thanks for the discussion. Please note not all mums are able to breast feed naturally and it's hard to express and feed over the longer term without a lot of support.
Look up Dr Unwin in the UK, he is a keto/carnivore GP there along with his wife, and Dr Aseem Malhotra is a UK Cardiologist who wrote the book A Statin Free Life
just to let you know there is growing research that T1D is rooted in leaky gut syndrome and parasites (flukes specifically, which infest the pancreas, liver, kidneys and other organs and cause blockages and disrupt function). Of course diet is foundational and so important, but as has been noted here that can only manage it... it's worth looking into. We all have parasites and should all be addressing them regardless... it can only help.
I need your help! First of all, thank you for the content you provide, I watch many of your videos and love the genuine and insightful information. My father wants to go carnivore but he is worried it will do something funky as he is already diagnosed with high sugar levels and high cholesterol. It's very hard to get a real answer since the same doctors who say don't do it are the ones who are against diets like that in the first place and probably didn't have their eyes open yet. So My question is should he go on the diet with those two conditions? I've seen many places talk about high cholesterol on carnivore but couldn't find anything where you already have high sugar and cholesterol. Is it safe? or at least where can I look for answers? Can't trust what most doctors say these days, they all contradict each other. Thank you so much!!!!
I ate 8 organic blackberries the other day. My blood sugar was low at 75 mg/dl. An hour later it was 200mg/dl. Now I know I can’t have more than two of what God is generously providing.
I am glad that the Hungarian study was mentioned and that you referred to the Fast-Mimicking Diet experiment and its positive effect on C-peptide levels! Can we normalize more discussion about the body's vast (mostly unknown) potential to regenerate beta cells, even beyond the honeymoon phase? I am on a multifaceted journey with this goal, and it is beneficial for people, including medical professionals, to discuss this. Diabetics are often triggered by this discussion, and I'd like to see that conversation open up!
Totally agree on this! There's a growing contingent of T1D's interested in recovering/growing more beta cells. I find them in FB groups and on YT. I've been on my own journey of recovery for a few years, attacking the problem from many angles. This topic may trigger a few (especially parents of T1Ds), but most people are just encouraging and curious. Are you seeing some success in your journey?
Another great interview Doc! My primary goal among others is to not become diabetic like my Mother did, which in my opinion contributed to a series of strokes and eventual death. This tragic event could have been greatly avoided if I only knew then what I know now! It is people like you and like minded Doctors, Scientists, Nutritionists and self educated individuals that are spreading the truth!

I've been a T1D for fifty years and have been using an insulin pump, now with a CGM, since 1985. For the last two years I have been on a somewhat low carb diet, limiting carbs to 100 grams/daily. Based on your recommendations, along with several others: Dr Ken Berry, Dr Bernstein, etc..., I am switching to a much lower carb (30 grams) and higher protein diet. I believe the ADA's diet is to appease big pharma. The best diet should be structured to minimize insulin usage to as close to normal levels as possible, not 70+ daily units.
Dr. Chaffee, will you ever look at Tomar’s channel, where he has his interview with Shawn Baker & mentions that he takes 3 different types of insulin? Long acting, Regular & Fast Acting Insulins. It gives many of us Type One Diabetics, false hope, when you repeatedly insist that T1 Diabetics, only need a small amount of Long Acting Insulin, if they adhere to a Carnivore diet. Unfortunately, that is rarely, if ever the case for a Type 1 D. Watch some of Dr. Richard Bernstein’s videos for better reference.
Check out Dr Shaw Baker’s podcast where he interviews “Paul”. 62 year old Type 1, who became diabetic only 4 years ago. Paul knows more than any of the carnivores doctors about Type 1, he spoke about the problems with Levomere which was formulated for diabetics WHO EAT CARBS, unlike basic insulin, sold at Walmart & available without a prescription. Paul helps to unravel some of the mysteries about the challenges a type 1 faces, if he tries to do carnivore. It would be nice if the doctors got “up to speed “ with the experiences of those courageous individuals who became type one very late in life, mostly as a result of (?) and are trying to figure out this very complex process, all on their own.
Hey Anthony im a 42 year old and imn from Denmark. Ive just started carnivor strict. meat, water and salt. i had leukemia back in 2000, that has lead to that my gall bladder and thyroid gland had to be removed. Is there any thing i need to look out for with the thyroid gland, im on eltroxin 250mg a day. Hope to hear from you and thank you for a great channel.
No I dont think there should be anything to worry about with your thyroid meds. The only theoretical is that sometimes people dont need as much thyroid hormones on carnivore or keto, so if you start having symptoms related to too high of a dose, then talk to your doctor about adjusting it. Is carnivore and butter safe with having a fatty liver and adrenal blockage I been eating normal again and feel awful sugar dropped to 70 this morning and when I eat anything with carbs it shoots up 135 or so makes me feel yucky
Yes, going carnivore can actually help reverse fatty liver disease as you will eliminate out things that cause it. Butter and animal fat dont cause fatty liver. I havent heard of adrenal blockage, but carnivore can help optimize your health in general as it is how we are designed to eat. Yeah stay away from carbs and everything except fatty meat, as you can see they make you feel awful and derange your blood sugar, which is dangerous long term

We demand Grass fed Organic beef and wonder if fake milk for infants makes a difference. I has to, and just as we have been lied to about sugar, we are being lied to about formula.
While I do believe breast feeding is best (especially on the proper human diet) but formula can still be life saving. What we need to advocate for is better formula. Zero seed oils and more saturated fat and cholesterol. Zero sugar, etc.
Do you have to take insulin for the carnivore diet? And do you have to take basal insulin at night time to be on this diet? I am in my late teens, male and type 1 myself and I really want to try this diet but I am extremely underweight but I am not anorexic if that makes sense. Yes even without carbs you need insulin. The liver dumps glucose into your blood during the day, protein requires insulin and especially now for you hormones also can cause fluctuations in sugars. This disease is challenging and takes a lot of time to learn it's a beast but we have to strive to figure it out.
I wish I could blame my daughters type 1 diabetes on formula. I breastfed her for two years. She never had a drop of formula. And I ate a paleo and low carb diet while doing it. I have no answer as to why this happened.
I have my suspicions as I have the same background with my daughter.....I can only put it down to the childhood jabs. She had a big reaction at the needle site compared to her sisters and from that point, we had lots of issues with her until diagnosis of T1d aged 12 when she was in DKA. That was 2 years ago....I remember looking online for data and there was a guy in the US who had looked in depth during the 1990's at the correlation, which was very obvious.....but I can't find it since!! It is very frustrating, because knowing now what I know, I would have refused every last one, I should have listened to my gut.....but I thank God for voices in the wilderness, like these guys, willing to put their heads above the parapet to help us all find a better way, where possible 🙏🙏🙏
Maybe this is not the forum for my question however carnivore for 2months and struggling to understand. If I am 20kilos overweight why can't I use my body fat storage for fat and not have so much fat butter eg. Anyone know the answer to this I would be most grateful.
Because animal fat is and contains essential nutrients, it's not just an energy source. You can limit your intake, but you'll miss out on nutrients as well as crash your metabolism and slow it down, ironically stalling weight loss or even putting weight/fat back on, especially once you start eating more properly again. Animals in the wild eat their fill and they prioritize fat, and they stay in great shape (for them) because they are eating what they are designed to eat. If you are eating what you are designed to eat, you can too.
Thank you now all I have to do is work out how much fat .losing weight but slowly I eat 350gram rib eye at around 1pm and again at 6pm apart from couple cups of coffee with cream just water but feel pretty good keep up the great work mate 👍
I’ve lost 80+ lbs by eating low carb, but not necessarily high fat. I didn’t avoid foods with fat (like bacon, cream, cheese, etc) but I never added extra fat and incorporated loss of my own fat into the equation of what and how to eat. Didn’t feel hungry. Can easily time-restricted fasts with an eating window of 11:00 to 5:00 or less most days. I don’t feel hungry. The last 6 months I don’t eat anything with added sugar or grains. Also don’t eat highly processed “keto” junk foods either. I couldn’t do this at the beginning, but I just drew a “bright line” and tell myself that “I’m a person who doesn’t eat foods with added sugars, grains, or seed oils.” When I’m tempted by my old favorites, I just think about having to rewrite my definition of myself. And I’m too lazy to do that, so I just walk by the temptations. 😊😉

I'm curious, I've been pure BBBE for 4 months and my leanness has stopped improving. Any tips for how to get your body all the way to a six pack? I have a decent 4 pack, but there's still a lot of squish messing up the details. I was leaving myself slightly hungry due to the usual dieting setup, but got tired of progression stopping and as of last week, just eat as much as my body wants throughout the day. Guess the idea now is to see what I look like when "bulking" on mostly beef. Still am wanting to get to a solid 10% body fat, though, so any tips for that level would be great!
I would just stick to beef and water, high fat, and eat until it stops tasting good. That should do the trick. You should also do sprints and lift weights (each set to failure) at least 3 days per week and go from there.
I have no idea where Dr. Chaffee got the idea that on a carnivore diet T1 diabetics only need background (basal) insulin. Maybe newly diagnosed diabetics in their honeymoon period and eating mostly fat and not a lot of protein or injecting more background insulin than they need may get away with doing this (though they would have to keep eating constantly to keep up with the high amount of basal insulin to avoid hypos). He keeps repeating this when he talks about T1 but it's physiologically impossible.
I’ve been T1 over 50 years, went very low carb, not Keto, 33 years ago. Have done Keto three times for over nine months each time in last four years, and loved it. Been carnivore for seven weeks. I’m on an insulin pump and for the first six weeks didn’t add a bolus for any meat eaten. In last week I’ve started to get insulin resistance as I did on Keto, and have had to increase Basel level by 10% and started to add a tiny bolus for meals. So for the whole of January, no bolus and a constant level blood sugar. Two low’s sugars whilst exercising, but now body is adapting to ketosis, and I can now exercise without bs going down, unless I exercise really hard, in which case I need to raise Basel level as flight or fight drops sugar into me. All sounds confusing until you understand. Lots to learn yet, but learnt a lot on previous Keto diets. I suspect there will be lots of changes to make re insulin levels as my body adapts. 😀
Ps. Forgot to add, when on low carb diet I always had to bolus for meat, bacon and eggs etc, but didn’t need to when I went carnivore for the first six weeks. Very strange.
The idea makes sense to me. When I went keto with T1D, I took very little bolus insulin and also dropped my basal amount. The ratio of bolus to basal should be roughly 50/50, but on keto, it was 90% basal, 10% bolus....for years now. With strict carnivore, I may be at 100% basal, 0% bolus.
I'm confused as hell! I watch videos like these ones and it all looks good. But then I read something like this on a serious medical site: "A large prospective study in the British Medical Journal (Trusted Source) indicates that U.S. adults eating more red and processed meat had higher mortality rates. Participants who swapped meat for other protein sources, such as fish, nuts, and eggs, had a lower risk of death in the eight-year study period." What is a guy supposed to conclude with all the conflicting information?

Those "studies" are BS. They're more similar to astrology than science. Check out Bart Kay, he has a few videos explaining all the problems with them.
Red meat is not same as processed junk meat. If you eat any processed crap you will have problems. There is never been statement that pure red meat cause issue. They always use red meat together with processed meat.
A guy is supposed to conclude, " Whatever, I'm a man. My ancestors ate red meat. To hell with the"findings," I see with my own eyes in what wonderful health Dr. Chaffee and others are. And as a man, I shall not permit my health concerns to develop into a neurosis. I shall become carnivore, try it and see."

@@SvetlanaVladimirova8590 indeed, thinking "people are carnivores therefore I'm carnivore" rather than "I eat carnivore" helped me psychologically to embrace this WOE and identify with it. Yes, a bit of a dangerous approach, similar to veganism, but it does work. To counteract the downsides I put more energy into research and rational thinking. Which turned out to be a good idea since I found some insufficiencies.
I would love to help my daughter who has Type 1 diabetes. Her body is breaking down and its killing her. We can’t just go on carnivore, is there an endocrinologist we can see in Melbourne Australia that can support her in this new way.

What’s with all the breast milk discussion? One minute would suffice. Unless you made this video for young women who are intending to become pregnant, this is soo not helpful or important for an adult type 1 diabetic who became type 1 late in life, like after 55) . DrChaffee, please listen to Dr Shawn Bakers podcast where he interviews Paul, a 62 year old Type 1 who became diabetic just 4 years earlier and follows a Carnivore diet. He was so helpful ( unlike this video). For example he uses regular Insulin, that he buys from Walmart because THAT FORMULATION IS MUCH BETTER FOR CARNIVORES, not like the Novalog or Levomer which has been formulated for carb eaters in the the standard American diets. That’s big news! In other words if you’re on a zero carb diet, but you eat a ribeye at 7pm and your blood sugar goes up to 200 in the middle of the night WHAT IS HAPPENING??? We need so much REAL information & studies since, SO MANY MORE OLDER ADULTS ARE DEVELOPING TYPE 1. And none of you Carnivore doctors know why, you don’t know how a carnivore diet works for them ( not to well, if blood sugar spikes to 200 in the middle of night) Nor are you giving it the attention it needs, unlike Type 2, which gets all the attention.

Very disappointed in the fact that you talk endlessly how horrible formula is without mentioning that there are many reasons why some mums need to use it. Also, there are huge differences in formulas, eg organic full fat goats formula. In addition, there’s very little Vit D in breast milk, so that connector to Diabetes Type 1is not accurate. New studies show the connection of Type 1 in children and the micro biome.

Controlling to a better degree, yes. Although there have been promising studies done in rats with a ketogenic diet showing that they can actually start making insulin again, which is amazing.

I find that generally speaking people with T1D are very resistant to any natural approaches and truly believe there is nothing they can do... From my research T1D is an autoimmune condition, and growing research actually has connected it will both leaky gut and flukes (parasites) infesting the pancreas. In your case i am very curious to know if you have ever addressed parasites... looking at your face i can see dark circles under your eyes which is indicative of liver stagnation/clogging in my research... which is also commonly caused by flukes. Have you explored this or would you be willing to? Flukes are actually one of the first things people pass when starting to address parasites and it's quite a simple process where natural ingredients can be used exclusively... just a thought.
Yikes! I've been a T1 for my entire life, and I'm now 64- I've been on a carnivore diet for 6 years, and I still worry about my risks! Many docs are not happy, and get angry, that I refuse to take any statins, and they dislike my diet, so insurance companies are now making the patients pay for their entire bill, and won't cover people who refuse statins, etc! They want to control the patents choice... This is a sinister move in my opinion. I'm not obese, and weigh in at 129lbs, at 5'5. 🤨

I have been a T1D for 33 years. The degreed "nutritionist" have giving me very bad advice over the last 30+ years. Having a degree doesn't mean anything. I feel my 33 years of experience makes me more educated than most nutritionists. I have been pushed to consume 200+ carbs a day, and follow the Standard American diet. I have been doing my own research, and listing to better advice from people like both of you. I switched to low carb diet and my A1C is now equivalent to a person without diabetes. I never could have achieved that following the degreed nutritionist. I feel better than I ever have. I found out about Dr. Bernsteins book, as well as Chad Lewis book and read them both which opened my eyes to the bad advice I have been given. Thank you for sharing this interview!!!!!

Thank you again for another excellent discussion. It's excellent to see you speak with people across a wide spectrum. Dr. Chaffee, I'm wondering if you would make a video regarding a few specific issues I'm having. This is something I first learned about from Dr. Kevin Stock. I'm in between two surgeries to open my airways and fix a bad malocclusion. Last year was septorhinoplasty and this year, whenever it gets rescheduled because of stupid insurance, will be maxillomandibular advancement and genioplasty. I'm about to have titanium plates and screws in my face for the rest of my life because of shit nutrition standards in the USA (unless the hardware is removed - it's permanent for most patients).
My experience with healthcare growing up feels like being the victim of child abuse/assault starting with circumcision through tonsils and adenoids removed and having teeth extracted including wisdom plus braces at a very young age. This predatory healthcare system is beyond nightmarish which is ironic since it's still new for me to learn we are predators. I was raised in a somewhat religious household, and between what was popular, public school, and ridiculous religious inspiration gravitated to veganism in my mid-20s. I've been walking myself out of the cult thinking slowly but surely since 2020 right after learning the full effects of Brit Milah.

I now advocate for Brit Shalom (a peaceful baby naming ceremony). It's funny that in kashrut, the animals that are considered best are the ruminant animals and the fish considered have fins and scales which I've learned help keep out pathogens and parasites. Pros and cons to every religion. You mentioned religious belief creating an issue in another video, about the push for vegetarian diets helped keep men's libido low. So does MGM. For my face its titanium hardware and for the rest of me I sometimes use a restoration device and hope that Foregen is successful in the future. Very Frankenstein nightmarish stuff. I wish I had things that were purely reversible with diet and I know that at times when I've talked myself out of doing what I know works best, meat, it's cause I feel like it won't matter since I already feel destroyed to an extent. I'm turning it around and working on myself. Your videos are a huge inspiration. Dr. Chaffee: Btw, Dr. Boz's reasoning for the Sardine only plan is because most people don't like sardines at all, or that much, and "if you're not hungry enough to eat a can of sardines, then you're not really hungry". It is a way for over-eater prone newbies to learn to listen to their actual hunger signals. It is also a way to eliminate all of the excuses: "too expensive", "too complicated", "too busy", "at work", "traveling", etc. Virtually no (overweight and/or carb addicted) folks want to or will pig out on canned sardines! She does not say that it is better or better for insulin resistance lowering than eating beef or other meat. It is just an abrupt and very straightforward way get folks just to just eat when they need to, and off of focusing on, fussing over, and craving food.

Great interview. My son is a type 1, so this discussion hits home with me. We were just at his endocrinologist and he was happy with his a1c results. We attribute it to lowering his carbs significantly. I'm hoping I can get him to a ketovore/carnivore diet, like I do myself.

I know all of them love beef, but we were all pranked! by our PCPs asking us not to eat it. I think this easier to follow and to comprehend, maybe this time I will have better luck turning some people into better health! Thanks!

As a T1 D for my life, my Ha1c is at 5.1. Eating a carnivore diet for 6 years, has improved my life! I'm not as tired, and my energy is amazing! I've worked in the Medical Field for my entire carrer, and pull 7, 10- 12 hour shifts working graves! I work just as well as the younger people, and they can't believe that I'm 64! I don't eat in the cafeteria either- Many think that I'm crAzy for eating only red meat, fat, and water, yet the proof is in the blood testing! I'm grateful for the knowledge that I have, and to these physicians like Dr. Chaffee! The impact it has has given me the power to take care of myself, with dignity, and respect! My doctor's still want me to eat their way, and I just smile, and eat carnivore anyway!

I bet you they wont be able to produce any high level (interventional trial) data to support that claim. The data actually shows that more protein (eg red meat) helps improve kidney function.

Nice seeing a fellow Israeli here. Gotta be honest I didn't know they were even aware in the nutritional studies about keto, let alone recommend it (we have warning labels on products for saturated fat, I kid you not). We need a massive shift in thinking here

T1d since 1980 and a cure seems far away though I agree that with type 1 on the increase, prevention via better food is key (stronger immune sydtems) is key. After 40 years of damage I am better via low carb but have to fight against statination! UK Dr's are told to prescribe if C is 4 or more. Mine is 8.4 but my trig/Hdl raio is excellent as is my BP and body comp. It'd frustrating not to be able to discuss an optimal approach with an MD not mired in dogma. Thanks for the discussion.
Please note not all mums are able to breast feed naturally and it's hard to express and feed over the longer term without a lot of support.
Look up Dr Unwin in the UK, he is a keto/carnivore GP there along with his wife, and Dr Aseem Malhotra is a UK Cardiologist who wrote the book A Statin Free Life
just to let you know there is growing research that T1D is rooted in leaky gut syndrome and parasites (flukes specifically, which infest the pancreas, liver, kidneys and other organs and cause blockages and disrupt function). Of course diet is foundational and so important, but as has been noted here that can only manage it... it's worth looking into. We all have parasites and should all be addressing them regardless... it can only help.

I need your help! First of all, thank you for the content you provide, I watch many of your videos and love the genuine and insightful information. My father wants to go carnivore but he is worried it will do something funky as he is already diagnosed with high sugar levels and high cholesterol. It's very hard to get a real answer since the same doctors who say don't do it are the ones who are against diets like that in the first place and probably didn't have their eyes open yet. So My question is should he go on the diet with those two conditions? I've seen many places talk about high cholesterol on carnivore but couldn't find anything where you already have high sugar and cholesterol. Is it safe? or at least where can I look for answers? Can we normalize more discussion about the body's vast (mostly unknown) potential to regenerate beta cells, even beyond the honeymoon phase? I am on a multifaceted journey with this goal, and it is beneficial for people, including medical professionals, to discuss this. Diabetics are often triggered by this discussion, and I'd like to see that conversation open up!
Totally agree on this! There's a growing contingent of T1D's interested in recovering/growing more beta cells. I find them in FB groups and on YT. I've been on my own journey of recovery for a few years, attacking the problem from many angles. This topic may trigger a few (especially parents of T1Ds), but most people are just encouraging and curious.

I've been a T1D for fifty years and have been using an insulin pump, now with a CGM, since 1985. For the last two years I have been on a somewhat low carb diet, limiting carbs to 100 grams/daily. Based on your recommendations, along with several others: Dr Ken Berry, Dr Bernstein, etc..., I am switching to a much lower carb (30 grams) and higher protein diet. I believe the ADA's diet is to appease big pharma. The best diet should be structured to minimize insulin usage to as close to normal levels as possible, not 70+ daily units.
Dr. Chaffee, will you ever look at Tomar’s channel, where he has his interview with Shawn Baker & mentions that he takes 3 different types of insulin? Long acting, Regular & Fast Acting Insulins. It gives many of us Type One Diabetics, false hope, when you repeatedly insist that T1 Diabetics, only need a small amount of Long Acting Insulin, if they adhere to a Carnivore diet. Unfortunately, that is rarely, if ever the case for a Type 1 D. Watch some of Dr. Richard Bernstein’s videos for better reference.
Check out Dr Shaw Baker’s podcast where he interviews “Paul”. 62 year old Type 1, who became diabetic only 4 years ago. Paul knows more than any of the carnivores doctors about Type 1, he spoke about the problems with Levomere which was formulated for diabetics WHO EAT CARBS, unlike basic insulin, sold at Walmart & available without a prescription. Paul helps to unravel some of the mysteries about the challenges a type 1 faces, if he tries to do carnivore. It would be nice if the doctors got “up to speed “ with the experiences of those courageous individuals who became type one very late in life, mostly as a result of (?) and are trying to figure out this very complex process, all on their own.

Ive just started carnivor strict. meat, water and salt. i had leukemia back in 2000, that has lead to that my gall bladder and thyroid gland had to be removed. Is there any thing i need to look out for with the thyroid gland, im on eltroxin 250mg a day. Hope to hear from you and thank you for a great channel.
No I dont think there should be anything to worry about with your thyroid meds. The only theoretical is that sometimes people dont need as much thyroid hormones on carnivore or keto, so if you start having symptoms related to too high of a dose, then talk to your doctor about adjusting it. Is carnivore and butter safe with having a fatty liver and adrenal blockage I been eating normal again and feel awful sugar dropped to 70 this morning and when I eat anything with carbs it shoots up 135 or so makes me feel yucky
Yes, going carnivore can actually help reverse fatty liver disease as you will eliminate out things that cause it. Butter and animal fat dont cause fatty liver. I havent heard of adrenal blockage, but carnivore can help optimize your health in general as it is how we are designed to eat. Yeah stay away from carbs and everything except fatty meat, as you can see they make you feel awful and derange your blood sugar, which is dangerous long term

We demand Grass fed Organic beef and wonder if fake milk for infants makes a difference. I has to, and just as we have been lied to about sugar, we are being lied to about formula.
While I do believe breast feeding is best (especially on the proper human diet) but formula can still be life saving. What we need to advocate for is better formula. Zero seed oils and more saturated fat and cholesterol. Zero sugar, etc.
Do you have to take insulin for the carnivore diet? And do you have to take basal insulin at night time to be on this diet? I am in my late teens, male and type 1 myself and I really want to try this diet but I am extremely underweight but I am not anorexic if that makes sense. Yes even without carbs you need insulin. The liver dumps glucose into your blood during the day, protein requires insulin and especially now for you hormones also can cause fluctuations in sugars. This disease is challenging and takes a lot of time to learn it's a beast but we have to strive to figure it out.

I wish I could blame my daughters type 1 diabetes on formula. I breastfed her for two years. She never had a drop of formula. And I ate a paleo and low carb diet while doing it. I have no answer as to why this happened.
I have my suspicions as I have the same background with my daughter.....I can only put it down to the childhood jabs. She had a big reaction at the needle site compared to her sisters and from that point, we had lots of issues with her until diagnosis of T1d aged 12 when she was in DKA.
That was 2 years ago....I remember looking online for data and there was a guy in the US who had looked in depth during the 1990's at the correlation, which was very obvious.....but I can't find it since!!
It is very frustrating, because knowing now what I know, I would have refused every last one, I should have listened to my gut.....but I thank God for voices in the wilderness, like these guys, willing to put their heads above the parapet to help us all find a better way, where possible 🙏🙏🙏

Because animal fat is and contains essential nutrients, it's not just an energy source. You can limit your intake, but you'll miss out on nutrients as well as crash your metabolism and slow it down, ironically stalling weight loss or even putting weight/fat back on, especially once you start eating more properly again. Animals in the wild eat their fill and they prioritize fat, and they stay in great shape (for them) because they are eating what they are designed to eat. If you are eating what you are designed to eat, you can too.
Thank you now all I have to do is work out how much fat .losing weight but slowly I eat 350gram rib eye at around 1pm and again at 6pm apart from couple cups of coffee with cream just water but feel pretty good keep up the great work mate 👍
I’ve lost 80+ lbs by eating low carb, but not necessarily high fat. I didn’t avoid foods with fat (like bacon, cream, cheese, etc) but I never added extra fat and incorporated loss of my own fat into the equation of what and how to eat. Didn’t feel hungry. Can easily time-restricted fasts with an eating window of 11:00 to 5:00 or less most days. I don’t feel hungry. The last 6 months I don’t eat anything with added sugar or grains. Also don’t eat highly processed “keto” junk foods either. I couldn’t do this at the beginning, but I just drew a “bright line” and tell myself that “I’m a person who doesn’t eat foods with added sugars, grains, or seed oils.” When I’m tempted by my old favorites, I just think about having to rewrite my definition of myself. And I’m too lazy to do that, so I just walk by the temptations. 😊😉

I'm curious, I've been pure BBBE for 4 months and my leanness has stopped improving. Any tips for how to get your body all the way to a six pack? I have a decent 4 pack, but there's still a lot of squish messing up the details.
I was leaving myself slightly hungry due to the usual dieting setup, but got tired of progression stopping and as of last week, just eat as much as my body wants throughout the day. Guess the idea now is to see what I look like when "bulking" on mostly beef. Still am wanting to get to a solid 10% body fat, though, so any tips for that level would be great!
I would just stick to beef and water, high fat, and eat until it stops tasting good. That should do the trick. You should also do sprints and lift weights (each set to failure) at least 3 days per week and go from there.

I have no idea where Dr. Chaffee got the idea that on a carnivore diet T1 diabetics only need background (basal) insulin. Maybe newly diagnosed diabetics in their honeymoon period and eating mostly fat and not a lot of protein or injecting more background insulin than they need may get away with doing this (though they would have to keep eating constantly to keep up with the high amount of basal insulin to avoid hypos). He keeps repeating this when he talks about T1 but it's physiologically impossible.
I’ve been T1 over 50 years, went very low carb, not Keto, 33 years ago. Have done Keto three times for over nine months each time in last four years, and loved it. Been carnivore for seven weeks. I’m on an insulin pump and for the first six weeks didn’t add a bolus for any meat eaten. In last week I’ve started to get insulin resistance as I did on Keto, and have had to increase Basel level by 10% and started to add a tiny bolus for meals. So for the whole of January, no bolus and a constant level blood sugar. Two low’s sugars whilst exercising, but now body is adapting to ketosis, and I can now exercise without bs going down, unless I exercise really hard, in which case I need to raise Basel level as flight or fight drops sugar into me. All sounds confusing until you understand. Lots to learn yet, but learnt a lot on previous Keto diets. I suspect there will be lots of changes to make re insulin levels as my body adapts. 😀
Ps. Forgot to add, when on low carb diet I always had to bolus for meat, bacon and eggs etc, but didn’t need to when I went carnivore for the first six weeks. Very strange.
The idea makes sense to me. When I went keto with T1D, I took very little bolus insulin and also dropped my basal amount. The ratio of bolus to basal should be roughly 50/50, but on keto, it was 90% basal, 10% bolus....for years now. With strict carnivore, I may be at 100% basal, 0% bolus.

I watch videos like these ones and it all looks good. But then I read something like this on a serious medical site:

What is a guy supposed to conclude with all the conflicting information?
Those "studies" are BS. They're more similar to astrology than science. Check out Bart Kay, he has a few videos explaining all the problems with them.
Red meat is not same as processed junk meat. If you eat any processed crap you will have problems. There is never been statement that pure red meat cause issue. They always use red meat together with processed meat.
A guy is supposed to conclude, " Whatever, I'm a man. My ancestors ate red meat. To hell with the"findings," I see with my own eyes in what wonderful health Dr. Chaffee and others are. And as a man, I shall not permit my health concerns to develop into a neurosis. I shall become carnivore, try it and see."
@@SvetlanaVladimirova8590 indeed, thinking "people are carnivores therefore I'm carnivore" rather than "I eat carnivore" helped me psychologically to embrace this WOE and identify with it.
Yes, a bit of a dangerous approach, similar to veganism, but it does work. To counteract the downsides I put more energy into research and rational thinking. Which turned out to be a good idea since I found some insufficiencies.
Have you ever considered that it could be junk science. There’s paid off and false studies all around us
I would love to help my daughter who has Type 1 diabetes. Her body is breaking down and its killing her. We can’t just go on carnivore, is there an endocrinologist we can see in Melbourne Australia that can support her in this new way.
Have you read the book Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution? That would be a good start.

I think these videos, while presenting terrific information just go on way too long. I am usually not impatient, but find there is so much repetition. The message is great, but the length I find tedious with no added value for the added length. Thanks for letting me comment.

What’s with all the breast milk discussion? One minute would suffice. Unless you made this video for young women who are intending to become pregnant, this is soo not helpful or important for an adult type 1 diabetic who became type 1 late in life, like after 55)
. DrChaffee, please listen to Dr Shawn Bakers podcast where he interviews Paul, a 62 year old Type 1 who became diabetic just 4 years earlier and follows a Carnivore diet. He was so helpful ( unlike this video). For example he uses regular Insulin, that he buys from Walmart because THAT FORMULATION IS MUCH BETTER
FOR CARNIVORES, not like the Novalog or Levomer which has been formulated for carb eaters in the the standard American diets. That’s big news! In other words if you’re on a zero carb diet, but you eat a ribeye at 7pm and your blood sugar goes up to 200 in the middle of the night WHAT IS HAPPENING??? We need so much REAL information & studies since, SO MANY MORE OLDER ADULTS ARE DEVELOPING TYPE 1. And none of you Carnivore doctors know why, you don’t know how a carnivore diet works for them ( not to well, if blood sugar spikes to 200 in the middle of night) Nor are you giving it the attention it needs, unlike Type 2, which gets all the attention.
More work needs to be done for type 1 diabetics! Wish Dr Chaffee would have Dr Bernstein on for type 1 diabetics!(he is getting old! But still wonderful!)
What are you dosing for that 7pm ribeye (bolus and/or basal)? Do you follow the New Zealand method for protein intake?

Very disappointed in the fact that you talk endlessly how horrible formula is without mentioning that there are many reasons why some mums need to use it. Also, there are huge differences in formulas, eg organic full fat goats formula. In addition, there’s very little Vit D in breast milk, so that connector to Diabetes Type 1is not accurate. New studies show the connection of Type 1 in children and the micro biome.

Controlling to a better degree, yes. Although there have been promising studies done in rats with a ketogenic diet showing that they can actually start making insulin again, which is amazing.
