    I originally made up my own story involving Hey There Delilah. I thought it was about a girl who had passed away, New York city being Heaven because of all the lights. And he's writing to her as if he was wishing she was right there with him, how most people do when a loved one passes & updating her on how his life is going now that she's gone

    My half brother loved this song. He played it all the time. When he moved out, my mom would cry whenever she heard it because she missed him so bad when he moved out and got a job when he graduated. The song is sorta stained by my own personal experiences, so I think more about Jamie's move being hard on my parents than about the mushy stuff in the lyrics.

    Delilah is a wonderful person to know if anyone gets to know her , even in passing. She’s intense as a business person, that’s how I knew her when she worked for Pepsi here in the Chicago area, while she was getting back into her training. I was sad to see her leave . She at the time moved back to New York to train. Her goal to my understanding was to attempt to make the Olympic team for the next coming olympics. I could only wish her the best. I love that little lady, she’s very inspiring and I can see why a song was written about her.

    I always thought the song was about a couple that were like high school sweethearts that went off to college and separated, and he ended up missing her a lot more than she ended up missing him. To me, it seemed like he was singing to her to let her know she’s still the one and only one for him and even though there’s no response from her through the song, you kinda get the impression that she’s just not impressed it’s actually kind of sad but now that you’ve explained itlike that it makes more sense, but I’ll have to say I wasn’t too far off. It does sound like a love story, but only for one person sadly, which is kind of how most love songs go anyways.

    Great, the Plain White T's were "the one" for me, they were the first band that introduced me to punk and alternative music and probably the one reason my english is as good as it is. Though you should have explained a song off of Stop which just turned 16 years old a few days ago.
    But the word "hardcore" has nothing to do with them. They like the rest of second wave pop punk and punk rock all came from happy families and pretended to be cool. Now they sold out like Fall Out Boy and most of the rest of the second wave, not much punk rock spirit left.
    But they weren't a one hit wonder, 1, 2, 3, 4 and Rhythm Of Love were quite successful as well.
    And Tom actually only wrote the song after Delilah asked him about the song he said he had written about her.
    Also the now quite dodgey part is that Delilah was about 16 because she had two more years of school when the song was written.
    Also for everybody who now got into the T's a few hidden gems by a long-time fan: Easy Way Out, Breakdown, Bruises, What If, I-88, Let's Pretend, Take Me Away, Sunlight

    • @expensivemstke1770
      @expensivemstke1770 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Now they sold out just like Fall Out Boy"
      I'm not trying to start an arguement, but if you're talking about how their music style changed, please stop. (that's what it seems like you're talking about) Bands are not confined to one genre, and a band that can pull of mulitple genres and still sound good is an amazing band. Just because you don't prefer a specific sound doesn't mean they sold out or suck. Just because they're popular doesn't mean they suck or sold out. If a band can't change their sound or get better in time, they're not good. No one is ever satisfied with bands and I think that's sad since they only produce what they feel confident about producing. Music is not good based on genre, but by emotion, and more importantly musical and lyrical content. Even if lyrics sound bad to you, chances are it's because you don't understand.
      Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

    • @AceMusicFreak
      @AceMusicFreak 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to genres I listen to most everything between Hardcore over pop to Jazz and I don't mind bands changing their sound, not at all. The Maine did a great job or Green Day. But you have to be critical about your bands. Fall Out Boy, The Plain White T's and All Time Low all obviously changed their sound with the specific intent of making more money and getting more famous which is with the latter two underlined by them changing from an independent to a major label though they were doing great with their indie label.
      Emotion, musical and lyrical content is important but their newer material is objectively not good in any of these points. I know my literature, music theory and music production, the lyrics are regurgitated garbage, emotion is unperceptible after production which is clean but run of the mill and takes away and character the music could have had.
      And you can "justify" most things with "because you don't understand" that's how we ended up with the car crash that is most (not all) modern pop music. And let's escalate it and say I don't understand why you would punch somebody you have never met for no reason but I know it's wrong.
      Bands can change genres if they feel like it but if you actually listen you can hear if it's organic and voluntary or just to fit in with whatever trend seems to posses popular music at that time

    • @expensivemstke1770
      @expensivemstke1770 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm very critical of my favorite bands, I know nothing about nor do I care for The Plain White T's and I'm not the biggest Fall Out Boy fan. Of course a band is going to try to make more money, because a band in a sense becomes a business. It's their living, it's what they do, and they want to attract more people. They're doing what they love, and they're in the public eye so they'll use certain things that are popular to get more people to love what they do. I'm not defending everyone, I think people like The Chainsmokers suck literal ass now compared to what they used to be. Obviously, I'm not saying bands I like are perfect. My favorite band does things that I don't like sometimes. But I'm very critical of them and that's why they're my favorite since they live up to amazing standards.
      My point is, just because a band changes genre, or sound or whatever (even if it's to attract more people) it's not really selling out, unless they're controlled completely by whoever is giving them the most money. They're also human and it's what they do for a living, so they're going to have to love it to have the right energy.

    • @AceMusicFreak
      @AceMusicFreak 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay maybe Fall Out Boy still do have a bit of passion behind what they're doing but if they would cut back on some luxory they could probably live off of streams and album sales alone. But somehow they have to not care because their concert prices are through the roof and before you start argueing about how musicians can coltroll the ticket prices: They can. Ticket prices are comprised of money to rent the venue, money for production, money for the label and staff and money for the band. Money to rent the venue at their size may be 5 (currency) per ticket and so if they charge 70 (currency) per ticket even if we say they're unsure of the turnout and calculate 10 (currency) per ticket for the venue then they could have a sick stage show with even just charging 1 (currency) per ticket for that. The label might take 10 to 20 (currency) per ticket which would be for a venue with 7500 capacity which they could easily sell out 75.000 to 150.000 (currency) per venue which is not that little. So with rent, stage show, and label money we're at maximum 31 (currency) which means Fall Out Boy are getting 40 (currency) per ticket which is at least 75.000 (currency) per show and when you say your average touring band is playing 200 shows a year we're at 1.500.000 (currency) a year and 125.000 (currency) a month from only touring there is still album sells, streaming, merch, royalties etc. . Other bands are okay with living below the povery line just to be able to be doing what they love and for fans to be able to afford their tickets.
      Also those bullshit letters about how each album is the best there ever was and it means so much to them. It's just so insincere. And the whole Mania drama of having only written a couple songs before announcing the album. And how they insisted that Mania still had guitars and real drums instead of just saying it is what it is if you don't like it go away shows that they're really trying to pander hard and have no artistic integrity left

    • @expensivemstke1770
      @expensivemstke1770 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mania is definitely not the best album they've made, but it's not the worst imo.
      Some of your math, the way it was written confused me a bit but I think I get what you're saying. But even still there's a lot of people that do work for a show, not just fall out boy and the venue. Everyone that had to set it up, sound, and all of this fun stuff I don't feel like listing. I'm sure they get their ticket prices as low as they feel reasonable, it's not like they're selling GA tickets for $300+. Yes there is other ways they can make money, but that venue and all their people have to make a decent amount of money to run and survive too. There's more than you think of when it comes to that, things like clean up after a show. It's probably not cheap to clean up an arena.
      My original point being, they're not sell outs, because they're doing them.
      Their music is still good, and if you can't admit that, idk what's wrong with you. You might be fixated on the sell out idea too much.
      You can hate a band all you want but don't call them shit or complete sell outs if they aren't, because well they aren't

    I feel relaxed whenever I listen to it. This is the one song I have to have on a road trip playlist or the one song I have to listen to whenever I’m stuck in traffic. Lyrically speaking, I have my own Delilah rn and she literally ran 1,000 away and she was someone who I’d walk all 1,000 miles for if there was no other way. My world hasn’t been the same and she is to blame. But life goes on and I love how relaxing this song is because of the acoustic guitar and the beautiful lyrics.

    Hey there Delilah makes me cry. I have no idea why but it's bittersweet and I just listened to it right before I clicked on this video and I'm crying while writing this. I literally break everytime I listen to it.

    "Hey There Delilah" is so romantically depressing because it's describing a long-distance relationship that doesn't grow into fruition. With lines like "I'm a thousand miles away, but girl, tonight you look so pretty," it shows that he likes her even when they're apart. Then, with lines like "Our friends would all make fun of us, and we'll just laugh along because we'll know they've never felt this way" shows that this whole situation is hypothetical and made up with the word choice of "would" instead of "will". With those lines together, it sounds like the writer loves someone who doesn't feel the same way which always sucks :(

    It’s really nothing creepy girl
    I’m just really into you

    Please come with me to the grams
    But just as friends
    Ohhhh Been stalked you for weeeeeeeks
    Ohh been stalking you for weeks
    Ohhhh been stalking you for weeeeeeeks
    Oh been stalking you for weeks
    Won’t slash your tired or key your car
    Might be will up at a bar
    As long as it’s you who told me to
    Then we can both laugh at him
    We can then get the rest of the band and hang out and eat some Chinese food
    Delilah I can promise you that by the time this song is threw the comments will never even be the same
    Reddit’s to blame
    Hey there reader listen closely here’s a bleeper
    They are watching what your doing make sure you block there peepers or your dead.
    They even hide them in your bed

    I saw the band’s interview along with Delilah during the Grammy pre-show when they got nominated that year. I thought it was awkward when they were asked if they were together and they were like Umm no. 😂 But I think this song really is a great example of how far inspiration can take you. He got dumped but he re-channeled his feelings into writing and got a Grammy nominated song out of it. I love this song so much, definitely one of my all time favorites. 💜

    I was born in 2003 so it’s pretty much my childhood, probably the first song I could sing from beginning to end. But recently this year I moved to a different state away from my boyfriend, so “Hey There Delilah” has become our anthem for this period in our life.

    I had a story on what it was about: There was a man older than Delilah by a few years, he didn’t go to college, but she went to college far away in New York City and she was almost done with college and they kept in touch and he was trying to be a successful song writer and she believed in him he was writing songs about her trying to become famous to get more money to live a good life with Delilah when she got out of college.

    honestly the song just makes me feel sad, like a distant memory that I’ve never even had. it’s like this boy in a long distance relationship with this girl, and he makes all these promises for when they’re together again, but for some reason I feel like it never ends up happening.

  • @pietjunior3284
    @pietjunior3284 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    To me it’s a bout a long distance relationship. He is going places with his music and he had to leave her behind because of the dream. She is still in college i think. So he is promising her to hang on and one day he will take care of her, when he is like a famous singer.
