Yeah, given how gems are, their sense of identity and self as individuals was built around Rose, and when Rose had Steven, they held onto her ideals, still centering her... this revelation finally breaks that centering, and they all have to redefine who they are in the face of it. Which leads to the end of the show, the movie, and Future, of course- defining all their worlds outside of the central point of The Diamonds. Garnet is amazing but the definition of codependence, going from no sense of self to deeply bonded (literally enmeshed) with a partner. Now they have to figure out who they are as individuals, without Rose as their defining point, in order to be together. lol yeah Greg's comparison really isn't comparable, but to some extent people don't necessarily owe "past lives" to new partners, depending on how they've moved on. Ideally it might come up eventually anyway, but.
It's good to have Bismuth back. And I appreciate that she's the one who acknowledges out loud that at this point, Steven is basically the leader of the Crystal Gems (even if he doesn't think so yet). After everything she went through with Rose, Bismuth should be the most wary of anyone of leader figures. So the fact that she trusts and respects Steven so much really speaks to his character. And I agree with her, I do think that Steven is the leader of the Crystal Gems now, at least in spirit. He is the one pushing the Crystal Gems to integrate more with Beach City (like in Letters for Lars). He is the one who helped Ruby and Sapphire through their issues after the PD reveal. He is the one who took the initiative to let Bismuth out of her bubble. He really is the guiding light of the Crystal Gems at this point, and that's crazy to think about when we remember where he started back in Season 1.
Ruby's VA is Charlyne Yi. Yi describes their gender identity as "queer genderfluid enby". They use they/them pronouns. Yi has also done voice work in We Bare Bears, and appears in Lucifer series.
Steven may not have been ready to accept it, but at this point...yeah, he's the leader of the Crystal Gems. He may still defer to Garnet after this on occasion, but he's the one leading the charge.

When Bismuth said, "Guess she ended up taking my advice," she was talking about Pink faking her shattering. Pink thought faking her shattering would get the Diamonds to leave the Earth alone and allow her to get away from them. The Diamonds' retaliation caused all the gems on Earth to he corrupted.
