  • My first attempt at creating a POV ski tour of Steamboat Ski Resort. I will take you on runs from the main lifts at Steamboat Ski Resort. Figured it can be used for pre-trip intel or just as some calm skiing ambiance. I didn't film a run off the new Mahogany lift yet because I'll probably shoot a different kind of video back there. Run data was taken from the Slopes app using my iphone for the GPS data.
Colorado Plankers: When I first started youtube I made skiing videos and offroad videos. The offroad content took off so that became an offroad/overland channel (Colorado Mallcrawlers). However, I'm a ski instructor and I love skiing as much as I love exploring Colorado in my Jeeps. Colorado Plankers is my attempt to bring my skiing knowledge and my love of videomaking to an audience that is into skiing. If that's you, come join me as I try to build this channel! Eventually I want to make cinematic skiing guides and I'd love to backcountry ski old colorado resorts. -Dewie

I am thinking about going to Steamboat with a ski club in January 2025. Never skiied out west before. This gave me a very good insight into what I might expect to encounter. At my age blues and groomed blacks are about as adventurous as I want to go. Excellent video! Thanks!!

Another like here for your format. Gives me a great feel for what to expect - well done!

Thank you! I’m glad people like them. Next year, I’ll start doing top to bottom difficult runs too.

I love this video format, including the trail map highlights and run name notes is extremely helpful!

Glad to hear it! I just filmed one at Copper yesterday. I’m perfectionist with my videos, skiing, and wheeling… I just want it all to be the best I can do. I still have work to do, but I feel it’s attainable so I’ll keep making videos here.

Nice, I like it. No talking and no music is good, and I like how you highlight the runs on the trail map. Keep it up and I will watch more.

Thanks for the feedback. Will do, I’ll get some at Copper and winter park soon and I’ll up the speed a bit as I’m getting my skiing legs back.

as a ski instructor shouldn't you already have your legs? @@coloradoplankers

@@jordsmords I’ve been on a hiatus due to my new career. I have only been part time while doing that… less and less slope time has caused weakness. Still, most people wouldn’t notice if they watched me ski, but I notice.

Awesome! I’ll film more in detail vids of various resorts as I know them all pretty good (especially the Epic resorts), but people seem to like these so I’ll keep making them.

Absolutely loved that. Grew up skiing Steamboat so watching you brought back memories of some of the slopes. Would def watch other resorts 👍🏻 good work.

I will definitely make more POVs and will probably make them of different lengths. I’m doing a few different types of videos this year, but I like making POVs so they’ll continue on. Not sure all the other video types will tho.

  • @golfingelk

Also I wouldn't worry about the tree/bump skiing being too shaky for these videos, I think the image stabilization is good enough that the POV would still be great for those runs too. I actually find those to be the most helpful for getting to "scope out" new zones before I get a chance to ski them!

I will start filming black runs in POV format eventually. Black run POVs will likely have me following one of my instructor buddies. They’re all still on epic and I’m on ikon so it’s a next year thing (I’ll get both passes in 24/25 since my work will finally be on 11 days on call with 4 days off call [currently I’m on call 24/7 365 days/yr]). This year is mostly about trying new things and growing this channel… however, I’m going to settle in to POV videos and various resort guides mostly.

I grew up skiing Steamboat every year -first time was in ‘83…then every year until ‘89… my husband and I have gone several times since 2012.. my favorite ski resort. We plan on going back next year. Thanks for the videos..my favorite run is Cowboy Coffee (love the scenery) and Why Not (just a fun run)… yes, continue making these videos!

Glad to hear it! On my offroad channel, I made skiing guides of Keystone that were well received. I’ll likely film a few different types of guide evolving those Keystone vids on Steamboat soon (next week). Then I’ll try to make the ones that people like on other resorts next season. I’ll do more POVs this season tho.

I use GoPros mostly as a trail cam and high risk cam in the off-road videos. I use a 10, 11, 11mini… they’re all pretty similar, but there is a difference from my 7 (old trail cam) to 10/11. Good luck!

Is there any chance I could get ahold of some of this footage for one of my upcoming videos? I would attribute you, of course, maybe help grow your audience a bit.

    • @coloradoplankers
      @coloradoplankers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah of course! I’m just making random videos right now and getting my skiing to where I want it. For uncompressed files, Dewiejonesmd@gmail.com or find me on Facebook messenger. Although I’ll admit it’s a struggle to share these video files online due to their size (tried in the past with my off-road channel, now we just share cards after filming).
