@@simonruszczak5563 Come on really? You're going to recommend a book and not even explain how all the evidence could be wrong?
Anatoly Fomenko's book, "History: Fiction or Science? Chronology," presents a highly controversial and widely discredited theory known as "New Chronology." Fomenko argues that many historical events, including those of the Roman Empire, are either fabricated or misdated. His theories lack credible evidence and are not accepted by mainstream historians or scholars. The traditional historical understanding of the Roman Empire is supported by extensive archaeological, textual, and documentary evidence.

Only Tony Robinson would think that Nero was a great emperor. Nero was likely born in the wrong place, at the wrong time. He would have fit in today, as the lead in a rock band, always doing drugs etc wonderfully. Helping with the fire would have been a great thing to do, if we had known for certain that Nero hadn't started the fire in the first place. It's funny how, as soon as the fire dies out, Nero builds his Golden Palace right on top of the region where the fire had been.

@@gregmiller9710 Getting back to the Holy Roman Empire -the word"dollar" comes from "thaler" which comes from the St Joachimsthaler -a valley rich in ore in Bohemia -then a state of that empire-first dollar coin minted in 1523-Bohemia was then a separate kingdom but later through marriage got incorporated into the Austrian Habsburg lands..I believe Roman coins are not that valuable because they are so plentiful.Would like to own some Lydian coins as that kingdom invented money in about 600BC -it was rich in alluvial gold.

To the huge number of would be self identifying geniuses - not Genii, as I suspect the self identified types believe - Nero is the last of the Augustine line, not the final Emperor - if you include the Eastern Empire that person did not fall till 1453 at the hands of Mehmed the Second - spotting this error in the title is NOT a Eureka moment and does not put you in contention for consideration by the Nobel Committee. This is not being presented by the original production team and has no doubt passed through many inept hands prior to its arrival here, its is remarkable that it has any relation to its true subject matter at all

Isn't it strange that a strange modern-day historian want to make us believe his own account if what took place nearly 2000years ago? He tells us how his peers of old exaggerated and aggravated the personage of Nero as a monster but he will give us the right picture using commonsense and logic based on what those historians write, ehi? These so-called re-writers of history we have today are really pathetic!
There have been people worse than Nero before and after him, probably more cruel and horrible but that does not mean he was not considered evil in some people's eyes. But we should also not always think that he was the epitome of evil, far from that.

Most physical evidence shows clearly that he was well liked by commoners. Almost all of the demonization originally comes fron the writings of his political opponents.

All in all a good documentary, but not perfect.
I have a question: why do modern historians or storytellers love to excuse and relativise ancient tyrannts? Would they do this with Hitler who loved art and was an artist? Who loved Greek and Roman culture? For sure as a human you will find always something to like in Nero and in Hitler, Stalin etc.
What really was his downfall and what can we learn as humans? Pride? The lust for sexual perversions, to be adored by the populous, people? The hunger for blood, getting stimulated by the suffering, torture, murder of people?
In the end Nero died, like everyone of us will one day, with nothing to take with him. Naked. So what is really important then?
