The best part of rebuilding/restoring these old radios is that you give it another 80 years of life.

Many years ago, I had radio shop in high school. We used the Greenlee Chassis punches. After punching out the hole, we would take a file to it and smooth out the edges.

👍Nice pry tools. Good to have! That is one itty bitty 1MegOhm resistor in that socket. But regardless it probably is more
like 2 Meg now. The remnants of that hurricane is here so it will be raining the rest of the day and into the night. Can you
say 100% humidity? My rotator cuffs are aching already. Yikes.

I think that the gears are shaped like that because it is a way to keep the dial from moving from where you set it. The spring on the front
of the first gear, gives that tension , so they should not me the same.

You can install rivnuts without the special tool. Get a long fastener of the correct size and put a nut and one or 2 washers on it. Screw it into the rivnut so that it goes all the way through the threads on the rivnut. Hold the fastener from turning and tighten the nut against the washer and the rivnut to compress it. Not quite like with the tool, but it works. Take care.

Do you not use any clear grain filler like Aqua Coat before finishing off with the oil based poly? In the video I see elongated voids in the wood where the wood curves due to light reflecting from the side. The photofinish parts don't have that problem obviously.

@@hestheMaster I do use Aqua Coat sometimes, but not on this cabinet. I’ve discovered that when I use AC during high humidity the finish starts to produce imperfections in the finish. I really don’t expect to get a piano finish on any radios.
