S - Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning, And Justice For All
A - Kill Em All, Metallica
B - Load, Death Magnetic, 72 Seasons
C - Hardwired, Reload
F - St. Anger, Lulu
Agreed with this list 72 seasons I have A or B but I agree with this list 100 percent
@@teasystableent Awesome! 72 Seasons has really grown on me since it first came out, it may be A tier one day.
I’m one of the nobodies who likes Load and Reload. I do agree that it probably would have been better to release the strongest material from those sessions on one album. But songs like Until It Sleeps, Hero of the Day, Low Man’s Lyric and Bleeding Me are some of the best songs James ever wrote.
I’m clutching those pearls over AJFA. The complete self indulgence completely worked for me.
This is my favorite channel, and I honestly never thought I would like anything that comes out of Florida.
bahahahah ah c'mon Publix is a kick ass grocery store
@@DancingwithGhosts Damn good subs
RIDE THE LIGHTING IS THE GREATEST HEAVY METAL ALBUM OF ALL TIME; IMO
"All Megadeth Albums Ranked and Reviewed" next? :)
Great video! When Load came out it was a weird time and they felt so awkward, but I loved S&M
I basically agree with your rankings, except for AJFA of course haha
Glad you ended up mentioning Harvester of Sorrow. I agree with AJFA being too drawn out, but for whatever reason Lars' drums on that track are a big highlight for me. I get that quick roll he does paired with the guitar chug stuck in my head CONSTANTLY lmaoo
I really like your videos. I'm fan of yours. So glad you're not missing anything talking 'bout another infamous album "Lulu" (a collaboration with Lou Reed before his death).
yeah i thought about covering that one for my 'bad albums' series or whatever you wanna call it but eh... i donno.. seems a little over-done but i still may do it
@@DancingwithGhostsSo… the thing with Lulu is that people treat it as a Metallica album featuring Lou Reed vocals, when it’s actually more of a Lou Reed album featuring Metallica instrumentals. As a straight-up metal album, it’s Illud Divinum Insanus/Same Difference/Promise (by Massacre)-level musical bruh moment. As a Lou Reed album, I can’t comment on it. Haven’t listened to too much of his work but it doesn’t sound any more intentionally bizarre than everything else I’ve heard.
The community ranking is probably somewhere close to where I'd put things. Though I'd move B, C, and D down even further.
I didn't agree with ur list, but when u broke down ur reasoning I was onboard especially with the death magnetic 'could of been cut in half' , like I know for some people that might not mean much but sometimes that how u get a great album vs a overstayed one. U are always good at explaining stuff, as a musician myself I suck at it haha
SunnyV2 credited you on his H3H3 video. Nice seeing you on there, brother!!!!
Great content, man. I think your intake of Metallica's albums were fair, and was reasonable.
thanks!
I really like your vibe lmao, it has a certain sarcastic "man, having to do this sucks" in a very entertaining way. Same with the Bimmy video's. It's hard to explain but I hope it makes sense. Really enjoyable stuff.
On a serious note about the list, I could get mad about Justice but given the context of being burned out with Metallica, I really get it. It can get super samey that way. With that in mind, please listen to it again in 2 months or so when that's not the case, because it truly is a highlight in Metallica's career. The songwriting and unique vibe it has really are worth it.
haha yeah i know i give off that vibe and i think it works for my youtube channel but not so much in real life like at my job lol
I find it a lot more relatable and genuine than most of TH-cam. It’s not trying to sell you anything nor push some agenda.
I was never a Metallica fan, but I will watch and comment to support ya!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Justice For All is boring. Blackened is the only song I like off that album. I liked Load a lot more than you did, but I agree with the rest of your ranking.
I love your stuff, your demeanor and wit. It appears you possess a extremely pleasant personality. I tend to agree with 90 to 95% of your takes on music in general. I voted for Madonna, hope that’s a future possibility, yet looking forward to a MJ discography ranking. Thanks dude!
Another great video man! 🤘
MOP was the last Album to have Cliff Burton
Thanks for the analysis. Good listening with my nightly puffs. I agree with many of your takes. I also play 🎸. I can play most of Kurts stuff. His old stuff IS like warm ups 😆 but tricky in a fun way due to the sheer athleticism. But dude, James parts are somehow harder than the solos. It's CRAZY that he sings while he chugs like 💪.
yeah man.. if you're in the studio those rhythm parts are way harder to track if you're trying to be precise (which you have to be for maximum impact).. I'd love to hear you cover some old metallica solo's.. do you upload vids to your channel? i guess i could look but i am lazy
Seek & Destroy is one of Metallica's first bangers. But what are your favorite songs from Hardwired to Self-Destruct? I'm just curious
I'm sort of with you on And Justice For All being kind of a drag. I'm not super technically minded so I'm not sure what the terminology is, but it has this really dry, tinny sound to it that's just really unpleasant to listen to; I assume it has something to do with the fact it has no bass, since Cliff Burton had just died and so they didn't want to immediately replace him out of respect, but it does feel like there's something else just wrong with the album in the mixing or the recording or something.
"...and Justice for All" is the album on which they notoriously buried the bass in the mix. Possibly because they were upset over Cliff Burton's death, and they took it out on poor Jason Newsted. I don't think they were known for burying the bass before that. They loved Cliff.
i think any lack of bass before that was just how metal albums were produced back then.. the bass always got the shaft because records (LPs) were still the main seller and the more bass you added, the less space you had on said-record because the grooves in the record would get bigger therefore lessening the amount of songs that could fit on the record
@@DancingwithGhosts I would agree that bass typically isn't prominent in the mix in the metal genre, generally speaking. I was just addressing what you said at 3:50
FIxxer is one of the most underrated Metallica songs ever.
I unironically love Load (ReLoad a little less), but that might just be due to it being my first real exposure to Metallica. I was 13 when Load came out and kinda starting my own musical journey. "Until it sleeps" was the first Metallica song I consciously heard, when it was played on MTV. I later discovered the older albums and love them too, but Load was one of the records that really shaped my musical taste at the time. Along with "Antichrist Superstar", Testament's "Low" and TOOL's "Aenima". All from that 1996/97 era
the video for "until it sleeps" was so creepy
Calling it:
St. Anger at F
Where it belongs
@@T.k.b.a.h.a the one where he went back and did all the drumming?
And Justice Used to be my favorite Metallica album; your take actually made me think of reconsidering. You're right about the thrash burnout
Hetfield is a good rhythm guitarist but there's a lot of guitarists in thrash and death metal who play faster and have more fun, unique riffs. Metallica is the actually the perfect band to learn techniques like alternate picking, down picking, legato when you begin playing guitar.
As far as the black album goes, I guess it depends on what you're looking for from a band. I wanted extreme music, so the slowing down is what irks me. A couple okay songs speed wise and some objectively good songs overall.
I started listening to metal in 2008 or so and by the time I'd made my way to the black album, I was listening to Slayer, so all of Metallica felt very slow and simple. Then I moved to stuff like early Deicide and Obituary and Slayer seemed comparatively slower and tame. Now my favorite band is Ripping Corpse and I feel like I finally reached my destination in metal.
What, no Lulu!? The tier list placing for it would be obvious, I wonder if you can sit through the entire thing or not.
I still remember that st anger snare drum tone from 20 years ago…and it’s not a good memory.
so you're saying... the memory remains??
😂 it’s the thing that should not be
I subbed originally due to Ass Wiper hate.
I'm much more of a straight up metal fan than you. I very much disagree with And Justice for All's placement, but I agree with your personal line of reasoning.
What killed metallica for me was watching that awful movie about their rehab lol.
Can't wait for the MJ video!
I still don’t even understand how people like Master more than Ride The Lightning?
i grew up with the band, and will be watching with a discerning eye! lets gooo :D :D
😂 i know one of my pics is going to upset you
@@DancingwithGhosts honestly, it was pretty spot on. i am one of those rare people who puts load and reload up one notch, but that is entirely due to my life at the time. memories of my life at the time, attached to the records. looking back, i can easily see how they could be dropped down a notch. back then, i would have hoped for a better rating. well done! :D :D
Everything is Pretty Fair but imo AJFA goes to A Tier
S - KEA, RTL, ReLoad, Garage
A - Load, Black, MOP
B - HWTSD, 72S
C - DM, AJFA
F - SA, Lulu
I have to say Prince Charming on Reload is fuckin awesome!

One of the best fuck you songs.
Justice was the first album I ever bought. Can't really argue with the critique though. The songs are absurdly long. Will always love the lyrics to Dyers Eve the most though.
I know these are not traditional albums, but if you had to, where would you rank S&M and Garage, Inc?
garage is such a long ass album but i do love whiskey in the jar.. probably B-tier for Garage and S&M probably A-tier
@DancingwithGhosts fair. Plus clover on s&m is pretty kickas
*no leaf clover my b

If we are judging by the top 3 songs on each album I basically agree. The only album where I liked every song was Rust in Peace.

Josh commenting on the h3 Bill Burr interview made into a SunnyV2 video
It's funny how Metallica after the thrash burnout (And, After Cliff's death)... It's kinda funny watching Metallica looking for their sound.
Black Album was produced by Motley Crue Dr Feelgood producer, Bob Rock. Which it made the best commercial album.
Then Load/Re-Load said, f it, we are going to copy Alice in chains grunge sound. Because Grunge is what is selling right now.
And well, St Anger deserves an AVGN good poop insult.
If you really want to check to what Metallica could've sound with Dave Mustaine, look for the bootleg Dave 'em all, it's beyond amazing.
oh rad!
Load and Reload are a double album you are 💯 right, why do people debate that
The shortest straw solo is amazing
i had such bad ear fatigue by the time i got to that song it all started to blend together
I love the ranking videos. Alice In Chains would be cool. Love your channel!
already did Alice in Chains I'm pretty sure
@@DancingwithGhosts oh sweet
I agree with most of your opinions, but AJFA reigns supreme. The lyrics are super, and the guitar work is tight af. Give Eye of the Beholder and Dyers Eve another look they are worth another listen!
Great video. I stole my copy of death magnetic from Walmart because I bought a fresh copy of st anger. Love your thoughts on these. Black album hate is so silly. I do suggest S and M 2, probably my favorite metallica anything since 1992. Good work and I appreciate the long video as I wait for my puppy to shit
haha that last part caught me off guard 🤣
I thought when I first heard St Anger I actually downloaded a leaked demo version, because that what it sounds like. Also that they're trying to be a little like System of a Down
yeah it was really does sound like a leaked version off Limewire or something... the production was such ass, I bet Bob Rock was laughing his ass off
Notif gang what’s up
And Justice is such a husk of an album. Blackened is such a great song though, I'm thoroughly convinced they wrote that during the Master of Puppets days. The pacing of the song is totally different than the rest of the album (except One). But all the other songs just blend together in this long bland nothingness, except One. I'll give them credit on that.
So I think they had Blackened already written from their Master of Puppets tour, poured their effort into One, then just banged out the other songs in like, 2 days.
As for people who hate the Black Album, a lot of them hate that Metallica was changing their sound - but they're the people that like And Justice...that dried up, withered old pruned piece of aged fruit of an album.
Nice spot on SunnyV2 (and red cow arcade)
yeah that was pretty cool that he chose to use one of my clips
Bro your on the latest sunnyv2 video ahhaha
No way lol
You could do Slayer next!
oof... naw i can't handle that dude's voice
Not a Metallica fan but enjoyed the video anyway.
35:33 OH! Just like "Use Your Illusions 1 & 2" from GnR!
yeah but those albums were released at the same time concurrently
Ride the lightning is their best album
I would like to order more bimmy content pls.
man can not subsist on Bimmy alone
@@DancingwithGhosts I just can’t get enough of him. He’s eternally fascinating
@@Nolan-knew-iti enjoy the attention my channel gets anytime i do a nerd video but i don't want to over-saturate my channel with bim.. plus he hasn't really done anything worth talking about in a while
@@DancingwithGhosts I agree, and I was trolling when asking for Bimmy content. It’s more of a testament to how enjoyable you make the bimmy content lol. Keep up the good work.
Kill 'em all is not on top? Charlatan!!! ;) I love the garagesound of that one and no one will ever change my mind on that, cool idea though, no chance you listen to some good German metal like Accept? Would love to see if you prefer Metal heart over Balls to the Walls...

there''s even an unforven 3 on Death Magnetic that is the song in name only
@@DancingwithGhostsI like all three.

load is b tier but black is d? huh???
@@DancingwithGhostsif you were a fan at the time, you did NOT appreciate the commercial direction the black album went. I think you said in another video that you're a millennial, so you would not have remembered the havoc that was caused by the almost overnight takeover of grunge and alternative rock. Hair metal and all that ruled rock and metal through the 80s was not only dethroned, but violently beheaded in the village square and kicked to the side of the road, leaving fans reeling and not knowing which end was up while the dust settled.
The 80s were the day of The Poser, and a lot of Metallica fans felt utterly betrayed when the black album dropped, after we'd been left holding the bag for 3 years after Justice was released. By the time the black album was released, the entire music scene had changed, and a lot of loyal old fans were just not into it. I was one of them. There is a very distinct line for me between And Justice For All Metallica and the black album Metallica, and I drifted away from them ever since. Once it became really clear that they were trying to kiss the asses of alternative rock fans, while also cutting all their hair off and starting to wear eyeliner for their Very Serious Artiste glossies....yeah, that felt like sell-out city for me, and I tuned out and never returned. It was just super off-putting back then, though I've come to reconcile myself with the black album recently. It's a good album, now having had some distance from the shit show that surrounded it!
Based on your review here, though, I might try Death Magnetic, because I appreciate Metallica most for their early thrash sound, and would love to hear some more of that from them. If I like it, I'll listen to the one after that, and follow from there - so, even though I could never agree with you about Justice being a drawn-out bore in any timeline, I'll take your recommendation and at least try Death Magnetic. :)
Mostly everything in the video was spot on in my opinion. Some kind of monster is great for the memes especially the argument over that weird Lars drum beat
i like when Lars gets in James' face and yells at him... You can tell in that moment they really care about each other lol
First 4 albums excellent....the rest is disposable.
noooooooooo

Yeah, I didn't care at all much for James publically mocking Layne Staley during their show like that. I know Alice in Chains had to cancel out on touring with them due to Layne's drug problem, but damn. I do sincerely get it though, yeah- Layne got to where he was and things ultimately turned out the way they did due to his own terrible personal choices and of his alone; just as anyone else of course. A thing such as opiate/opioid withdrawal and just getting through and living each and everyday and night with a total dependency of these however, are just one of only two things in my life that have managed to completely break me down from that of a grown man, on down to my knees as a small wimpering boy that knows he's in a world of sh*t. A personal and literal hell on earth that I wouldn't/couldn't wish upon my worst enemy. Aside from Alice in Chains being among my very favorite bands and from even personally knowing what a taste of how awful an affliction like that truly is, I still don't really understand how it could be very difficult to not have any empathy as to what the man was dealing with at the time. Especially considering he was a rock star himself and you certainly know he's seen plenty of that sort of thing among folks. I mean, I don't think they had any personal issues or beefs between bands or anything- so I definitely thought it pretty distasteful of James to behave that way. To his credit and benefit of the doubt though- and of course I can't speak for him or anyone else for that matter, but I'd bet if you asked him about that little ordeal today he'd probably feel pretty remorseful of the fact. Sitting in silence much older, wiser, and certainly more empathic or acknowledging today than he was way back then. Right along with having made it through some of his life's rougher chapters, to include recovering from his own life's afflictions since then. Reflecting back on a time when he was just a lot younger and dumber.
well Jerry Cantrell even appeared on Lars Ulrich's little Apple podcast thing a few years ago and they seemed like they were buds.. so I guess it's been squashed.. It's ironic that James was mocking an addict when he himself was an alcoholic.. he of all people should have understood addiction
For sure man, and that's another good point to add to the confusion as to why he behaved that way. I guess at the time he must have just been madly in anger with Layne I guess. As for Jerry Cantrell though, that fella's the man when it comes to being a truly great musician and just a good soul overall 🤙
72 Seasons with it mixed the same as Hardwired, I found it wasn't as good outside the singles
entertaining watch even though i have never listened to metallica other than the hits when they come on the radio. too mainstream maaan. but in all actuality i just dont care for 80s thrash so i never went out of my way to listen to metallica lol

Is your lifestyle your death style?
Also, I’ll never forgive Lars for the Napster incident.
i get where he was coming from.. and he was right to be honest. In a fantasy world where he thought he could single handedly stop file sharing, there would still be a means for artists to make money off their music. Also, you can't deny the psychological effect of having access to music so easily and freely now-a-days. I don't how old you are but when you had to haul your ass to a music store like Best Buy or Sam Goody and shell out 15 bucks for a CD.. you appreciated the fuck out of that CD (unless it sucked which was a risk you took back then). You actually anticipated new album drops, you had to go out into the wild to seek it out.... you may have just inspired an idea for a new video, thanks!
@@DancingwithGhostsbro, could you do a video related to industrial music? Maybe a NIN tier list or something?

First minute is a lie.
All 2000s Metallica songs are way too fucking long. Most tracks would benefit if 2 minutes were cut out
problem i have with death magnetic (beyond the awful mastering of the entire thing) is all of their choices are 'welp, that's what we did back in the day'. there's an instrumental, cuz the first 4 have those. it's in standard tuning, cuz they didn't fuck with alternate tunings til the 90s. 10 tracks, cuz kill em all had 10.
even the bestsong is a retread in concept of one and fade to black.
nothing was organic. and it's all bloated.
but feel 72 is their weakest, because man is there so much fucking bloat that almost nothing is memorable on it or stand out enough. lux is the only song that felt necessary.
the snare on st. anger may not be great, but goddamn what was with this period in metal with all the wonky shitty ass snare drum sounds? they all sound like garbage/ tin cans.
i think slipknot kind of made that trend mainstream with the shitty snare sound cuz clown would literally hit that beer keg with a bat sometimes i donno just a theory.. yeah death magnetic was quite bloated i bought it about 15 years ago when it came out and got bored after the first few tracks.. but the sound quality compared to st anger is top notch
