Just a quick thought..... Who are these people that dislike this video????? How could you possibly find anything in this clip disagreeable? Andy seems like such a chill guy. I personally enjoy easing into a Sunday watching these informative videos. My 2 cents
I've used cheap wooden yard sticks to make a transom template. You can usually get a handful of them for less than a sheet of thin ply, they are precut to size, and a lot easier to handle. Plus when you're done you can use them as stir sticks if you run out.
Andy - As a wooden boat guy who had had to deal with many jobs disassembling stuff held together with 5200: use wedges. Cut about 20 from something hard, using varying angles. You can pry something open, and drop in a wedge to hold it open (as you know, 52 million tends to want to stay stuck). Then, you can hammer them down to increase a gap, insert more wedges, etc. Can't recommend them enough!
I'm also a member on multiple Facebook groups of that revolve around sailing and refitting sailboats I get to refer people to your channel many times I take every opportunity to do so between your channel and sail life you guys have everything covered
Hey Andy, glad to see you back at it on the old bertram. This has not been an easy build , the time money and effort not to mention planning and workmanship that has gone into it. Not sure how you manage to not lose interest and keep going but glad you do.Thanks again for all the great info you share with us, this channel is such a great tool ✌✌
For outboards on the transom you need your coring to go all the way to the transom corners and tie into the hull sides. That hull was originally an I/O so there was much less stress on the transom than the weight and thrust of outboards will put on it. Cut the rear deck out and put a proper transom on it.
Welcome back, I bouaght the same machine in april when I start to work with install a bowthruster in my boat. I love it! I have been working as carpenter back i the days and like Boatworks Today, ang send you a hello from Sweden.
I just found your channel and am binge watching from the start of the Bertrand project. Man have I realized just how much I don't know! Your attention to detail in incredible! See you soon on Patreon.
I swear man. I get off work and start watching your vids. I cant tell you how much they help me while I'm working and you make it easy to learn from your videos. Thank you again
I've been binge-watching all of your episodes.Your information so helpful when doing my refit. I've been using what I've learned from your channel on Sailing Samantas thank you so much for all you do
Hello Andy, just wanted to say thank you your videos have bin an inspiration a learning experience and have kept me motivated to keep going on my own project. Do you have a video depicting how you tie the stringers back into the transom on the Bertram project? I have a similar situation replacing the transom was the easy part but I'm at a loss as to how to get the stringers reattached very similar scenario to the Bertram where I had to cut them back to get the rotten wood out. Keep teaching and I will keep learning. All the best
Man I really appreciate your videos! Thanks Andy ,I have a future project involving the coosa board and replacing the floor/deck on my '94 Angler 204. You have been a lot of help.
My choice for cutting fiberglass is where at all possible is a sawsall with a tungsten carbide blade I just cut a keel off a boat a 40 ft cut thru 1 inch to 1.5 inch thick glass like a hot knife thru butter and the blade is still good for more
Welcome back Andy time to go full speed back into the Bertram project. Ok not full speed but fast we have a lot of time to make up since you started lil sail paint job JT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐠🐟🌴🛥🌴⛱😊😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻⭐️
Great to see you back Andy. Been eagerly waiting for the next video 😂 Got to love the carbide tipped cutters. I use the rasps, plunge cutters and cutting blades , but dam there over charging you guys over there. We pay about a 5 quid to a tenner on eBay. Probably around 12 to 15 bucks.
Andy, is there going to be any of the original plywood or whatever other wood the used in the transom? It looks like there will be some on the edges... How do you seal for moisture? Thanks....
Regarding 5200, I kind of feel like making the guy repairing the boat swear because it's a PITA to get apart is a good thing... I mean yeah, that damage... but that also means it's stronger than the boat, lol.
Glad you’re back Andy. I’ll be ordering one or two of those cutting wheels for sure!! I burn through the metal blades a ton. I did invest in a tool called a Sharp Pog. It’s a tool designed to sharpen those blades. Very easy to use and getting 10+ life’s out of one blade is totally worth it. Check them out.
Andy I'd love to see you review Total Boat's new environmentally friendly solvents I've not had great results with other brands so I am reluctant to try this without some positive recommendations from a trusted source.
I think personally that 5200 is a first cousin to titanium? That stuff is impossible to break😳. I REALLY disliked removing it on my 33’ Pearson sailboat
Lemme guess, you do the luan plywood template like the kitchen rebuilders do a template for a counter top? Dude where have you been ... this boat has to get done before the daughter goes to college!
Something like a replacement for silicone but on steroids ... in reality it's a urethane product good for marine uses. Still holds parts of my 12ft inflatable dingy together 4 yrs later
You hate 5200 by nature of you having to always remove stuff fastened with it. Those of us who respect the material use it because we are fastening stuff we hope will never be removed.
I will write an “ask for forgiveness note” to the next owner of my boat in one or two spots of my boat... I watched other expert boater video in which the man said “5200 is not your friend” but he didnt show the reason
WHAT! 3M's 5200 is great for assembling. Not so great for disassembling... unless you get paid by the hour. Just smile (🙂) that who ever added the support DID NOT do a propper prep job.
Glad you're back on the Bertram
Great to see you back. Also good to see the Bertram being fixed.
Just a quick thought..... Who are these people that dislike this video????? How could you possibly find anything in this clip disagreeable? Andy seems like such a chill guy. I personally enjoy easing into a Sunday watching these informative videos. My 2 cents
I'm guessing it's the 5200 team at 3M.

SO happy to see you picking back up!

This is exactly what i did to remove old transom plywood, works awesome
Nice to have you back! Missed you. (Nice tractor.😎)
Glad to have you back in 2021!

Welcome back. When it comes to fiberglass repairs and boat work, this is by far my favorite to watch.

So glad to see the glass wizard back at wizardry on the Bertram. Can't wait to see more. Go BWT
I just found your channel and am binge watching from the start of the Bertrand project. Man have I realized just how much I don't know! Your attention to detail in incredible! See you soon on Patreon.
Nice works Andy. Enjoying all the videos, great to see you back on the Bertram
Welcome back. Great to be back on the Bertram.
Good to see you back between you and Mads my sundays are now complete
I swear man. I get off work and start watching your vids. I cant tell you how much they help me while I'm working and you make it easy to learn from your videos. Thank you again
Wow, your confidence in cutting and your repairs is amazing.
Great video Andy good to see you back on this project.
So good to have you back and on this project. Happy new year to you :-)
Buy once, cry once! Love it. Good to see you again!

Awesome to have another video. It was a minute lol great stuff
“ Buy once cry once “ I love that one.
It's quite easy to sharpen those bi-metal blades using a small triangular file. Saves money..
Welcome back. Hope you and family are all well.
Welcome back Andy, we missed you! I hope things have smoothed out for you-
Happy New Year Andy!
Man I really appreciate your videos! Thanks Andy ,I have a future project involving the coosa board and replacing the floor/deck on my '94 Angler 204. You have been a lot of help.
Best thing I have watched this year! THANKS
Glad you're back! I was a bit worried about you in this crazy times
Welcome back, Andy! Can't wait to see more of the Bertram project!
Back to the Bertram, couldn't wait for it. Thumbs up from germany.
It is good to see you back Andy. A sharp scraping blade on the Fein works well to cut 5200 between pieces.
Great video again!
Buy once cry once,................love it. You get what you pay for, cheap tools usually do not last.
Home depot sells a 5mm ply panel that's really strong but easy to cut
Welcome back, that's one hell of a cutter. I sharpen mine with a dremel cut off disc. See you next time.
err that's textured carbide cutting...nothing sharp...nothing to sharpen.
Damn glad to see that subscription notification pull up this morning with BoatWorkToday listed as the new video.
My choice for cutting fiberglass is where at all possible is a sawsall with a tungsten carbide blade I just cut a keel off a boat a 40 ft cut thru 1 inch to 1.5 inch thick glass like a hot knife thru butter and the blade is still good for more

Hope your time off was uneventful and relaxing, thanks for another great vid.
Can we get a quick tour of your John Deere tractor? I always see it in the shop.
Happy New Year Andy! I’m voting Armstrong delete and IO re-install. Only way to be sure! 6 wide OBs are so boring now..... 😬
He’s back 🙌
Thought this day would never come - :D
Andy, is there going to be any of the original plywood or whatever other wood the used in the transom?
It looks like there will be some on the edges... How do you seal for moisture? Thanks....
What would your recommendation be to use in place of 5200 something strong enough and yet not destructive
Regarding 5200, I kind of feel like making the guy repairing the boat swear because it's a PITA to get apart is a good thing... I mean yeah, that damage... but that also means it's stronger than the boat, lol.
i like this project. glad you're back on it. (:
Where did you get the carbide blade from. I need one.
Interesting. Looks like it could be easily made with a bunch of cutoff blades with a washer between them coupled all together with a bolt and nut.
err, it's textured carbide doing the cutting...nothing sharp or to sharpen...
If you don't like 5200, what do you prefer?
Hmmm. This video is actually a good ad for 5200 when you need something to stick. 😎
Hearing protection: Check
Breathing protection: Check
Eye protection: Bzzzzz
Have you tried debonder? Heat?
One month later, I didn't realise gap to last video was this long.
Andy I'd love to see you review Total Boat's new environmentally friendly solvents I've not had great results with other brands so I am reluctant to try this without some positive recommendations from a trusted source.
Link to the Fein Blade? I see a Diamond blade for over $100 but can't seem to find the carbide variant.
Sarcasm win!
Wow, two engines took up a lot of space. Are you going to put in a hot tub?
I have to do this to my 20" bertram. Are you not replacing all the wood because of the bracket? I was planning on removing it all.
11:43 you forgot the pop up 😇
Nice vid again! Are your arms/hands/head still getting itchy after a day of chopping polyester. Or do you get used to it?
👍🏼
YEA !!!!
5200.......Just like Frank's Red Hot......you can put that shit on everything!!!!
I think personally that 5200 is a first cousin to titanium? That stuff is impossible to break😳. I REALLY disliked removing it on my 33’ Pearson sailboat
What about COOOSA?! Have you changed your mind about using this gorgeous material? 😜
👍
Lemme guess, you do the luan plywood template like the kitchen rebuilders do a template for a counter top? Dude where have you been ... this boat has to get done before the daughter goes to college!
Тоже не понял что такое 52000 и почему оно не катит, но интересно что из этого получится...
Can you post your videos on Odysee too? I love them. Go project Bertram!
what is 52000?
3m 5200 marine silicone
Something like a replacement for silicone but on steroids ... in reality it's a urethane product good for marine uses. Still holds parts of my 12ft inflatable dingy together 4 yrs later
You can take two monohulls and glue them together with 5200 to make a catamaran.
Gah, but I want to use 5200 to bond cap to hull of an old hydrostream!
You hate 5200 by nature of you having to always remove stuff fastened with it. Those of us who respect the material use it because we are fastening stuff we hope will never be removed.
Never is a looong time.
Does it come back to haunt you?
I will write an “ask for forgiveness note” to the next owner of my boat in one or two spots of my boat... I watched other expert boater video in which the man said “5200 is not your friend” but he didnt show the reason
WHAT! 3M's 5200 is great for assembling. Not so great for disassembling... unless you get paid by the hour. Just smile (🙂) that who ever added the support DID NOT do a propper prep job.
Andy you have not one bit of salesman in you. Call it aeroplane plywood and it sounds much more convincing! :-)
It is also good for making a mold for a hull. You can bend it into shape before glassing and waxing to make the hull on.
i am also too poor to buy cheap tools.
