The thing is you can find a million great performances like this from Whitney but some of the others they have the same one shown or maybe a couple but nippy she did this night after night for years. As a vocal coach, one of the first things I do is play I will always love you by Whitney for my students because there just is no better example of breathing techniques, phrasing, projection, transitioning full voice to falsetto...that song and the way she performs it are just perfection in my opinion. There is a difference between Mariah and others while oversinging. Freddie Mercury too had that magic. They don't even sound like they oversing...it all fits into melody
Exactly. People like Mariah, Freddie, Whitney, and Celine oversang at times but intertwined it with new exciting melodic changes that fit with the song. It didn't sound crazy and out of place, like with what I've seen on occasion from singers like Aguilera and Jessie J.
