I found the tool to be very inaccurate. For a test, I held the tool upright on a table, set a 10 pound weight on the top (cradle) and it compressed the spring about 3/4 of the way between to 0 and 10 pound markings on the tool
I had a problem with mine, too. I hit it with a 10 pound sledge hammer and it never did work right after that. That is how they are calibrated, right, just hit them with a 10 weight and they should be good to go?
I use the same Motion Pro Belt Tension Gauge and it works perfectly. Not sure why people don't understand it.

But, we dtill need to show how the book says to fo it right or wrong. if wrong Ii have noted so.
Adjust your belt like a chain. Worked for me for 36 years and a hundred thousand miles. Belt just doesn't need to be 10 pounds at 3/8 inch. Period.
