Es verdad
La primera vez que tuve contacto con esa cultura y especialmente esta danza fue hace más de 20 años. Nunca he podido olvidar el misticismo que lleno aquel teatro y los sentimientos mágicos que produjo en todos los espectadores.

De joven entre los 13 y 18 años aprendí danza clásica de la India y es una disciplina danzaria que me enriqueció mucho y creo que se quedó en el garbo ylas maneras de moverme y el aprecio por esa cultura en especial su música tan hermosa, hoy en día creo que la tengo interiorizada hasta en el arte que hago, pues soy pintora, y en otros aspecto de mi vida, me brindó apertura de mente, ojalá los niños y niñas del mundo se les enseñase bailes y canciones de otras culturas. Recuerdo en mi colegio que era católico de monjas nos aprendimos una canción de navidad en japonés, y parte de las letras todavía las recuerdo.
Esos instrumentos y esa voces cautivan y el baile aún más...bendita India.

I truly think Indian classical dance is in the top 5 most beautiful tradional styles in the world; for me, it’s #1. I stand in awe.

Anonymous :Hi there. I’ve done many more hours of classical dance viewing since you asked your question, & I believe I have an answer.
I can not decide between Barahathanatyam & Odissi, with Kuchipudi a close second. The first two styles speak loudly to this Canadian, tho I couldnt tell you why, specifically.
I think it has to do with the first 2 having such a large spiritual effect on me. Barahathanatyam seems to me a prayer in motion, a call to the divine in which devotion is shown by perfecting the forms.
Odissi is somehow “lighter,” but I still see it’s prayerfull aspects, it’s call to the divine.
I also think that my training (in my youth) in classical ballet predisposes me to see the difficulty, & the artistry, of these 2 forms.
I enjoy Kuchipudi, but for me, it’s starting to veer towards “musical theatre, “ & I dont feel the pull towards the divine I felt in my favorite styles.
The other styles I appreciate, much like traditional Japanese Kabuki theatre, or the Chinese version of the same, but they dont move me. I couldnt watch hours & hours of them, as I can with my favorites.

I recommend Mohiniyattam from Kerala state. Please search for Mohiniyattam by Dr. Dipti Omcheri Bhalla. Her Dundubhi Natyam is the ultimate of graceful dance.

Exactly!! Odissi in particular is a classical dance form (we have total of 8 classical dances) which really hypnotizes the audience. Here's some triva, though this art is at least 1500 hundreds years old but much of it's original movements, gestures, beats, etc is all lost because during British rule over india these art forms were all banned and this all was oral practice and that's why Odissi took a major hit because of DAMN BRITS.
