ok just a little history lesson. Dan Garett was the first Blue Beetle. that version went through a lot of changes in his 20 years of on again/off again writing but the stuff that DC kept was that Dan was able to use the scarab but it functioned more like a magical artifact and didnt necessarily bond to him in the same way it does to Jaime. Dan is mentioned in the movie when they first enter Ted's lair. Uncle Rudy said that Ted found out death is the only way to remove a scarab because the scarab was bonded to Dan and when he died it left him. In the comics, Dan also died and Ted recovered the scarab from where his body was located. The scarab did not bond or activate in any way towards ted. Having studied Dan Garrett's exploits as the Blue Beetle, Ted recreated Dan's abilities with his own inventions and became the 2nd blue Beetle

It's wild how they went out of their way to make Jaime never kill anymore, but literally every single person on his side, other than his dad, kills at least one person.
Exactly! I didn't understand that whole cliché "no killing" thing that already doesn't make sense when even the grandma was murdering people with a minigun!😂
@@CommanderSteelTrap ... But he was going to do it. At least twice. He is stopped by the scarab and by his family. If he was chosen because he was inherently a better person compared to his family members, they failed to show it, because he still needed help to stop himself.

Dan Garret was the first Blue Beetle when he first appeared in the Charlton Comics line along with Captain Atom, The Quistion and other characters that DC purchased from that defunct company. Yes Kord never got the scarab to work for him but invented all his specialized equipment fight crime. He knew Dan Garret and it was passed down to him.
Blue Beetle is everything Marvel should have done a looooong time ago with the contemporary Mexican/Hispanic family story. DC beat them to the punch and it was greatly done!

Blind Wave talking about Super hero fatigue bummed me out since they almost NEVER talk about that and they've still enjoyed the majority of the MCU stuff recently. There were more than just Super hero movies that didn't do well this year. Dungeons and Dragons, Mission Impossible, Indiana Jones are just a few examples of films that didn't do to well. I think the only ones considered "huge successes" are Barbie, Oppenheimer and Guardians 3 and even some people said Guardians 3 was disappointing since it didn't reach a billion. I have to say as well, I was a big fan of The Marvels and I'm still bummed it didn't perform as well, but there were just SO MANY other factors other than "superhero fatigue" that got in the way of that movie not performing as well. But lastly, I do appreciate that they made sure to mention that just becasue a move didn't do amazing at the box office doesn't mean it's a bad movie.
Think of it as 'superhero oversaturation' then, and that's _definitely_ happening. Particularly with Disney trying to put so much 'next phase' content only on their own platform which further disjoints their 'all in one connected world' film going experience.
Everything about this movie as a Hispanic person hit home so hard but one thing I was taken aback by was that the first time you see the relationship between Victoria and carapax you think it’s an adult relationship but when you see his memories you see that she groomed him and even tho this movie was so funny at times it was also so deeply sad
42:14 Even a Mission Impossible movie struggled at the box office. While the box office numbers for 2023 were up from 2022, overall the box office numbers aren't reaching what movie sales did pre-Covid. Superhero fatigue could be a factor but I feel the economy, cost of the movie experience, and streaming services are big factors. The cost of the average movie going experience has aged almost as bad as the cost of sporting events. When I was a kid, the turn around time from box office release to seeing it on VHS/DVD was many times over half a year and even close to year in some cases (see the LOTR trilogy). Now the turn around time from box office to streaming is so short (sometimes 40-60 days) that people might just be waiting to watch these films on the streaming services they're already paying for. The film industry almost disincentives people from going to the theaters anymore. I'm also curious if the video game industry having one of the best years in gaming since 1998 had an impact on the film industry in 2023 and wonder if people spent more of their entertainment dollar buying video games. It's anecdotal but I found myself spending more money on new games this year than I have in previous years.
You mentioned Watchmen. Fun fact: the original idea was to use the recently acquired Charleston comics characters, and Night Owl was going to be Ted Kord. But when DC said no, Alan Moore just created his own heroes.
The “no killing” rule is now a DC only thing, for the most part. About as common to the MCU as secret identities. As Natasha put it, “We don’t want to kill you, but we will.”
Fun fact: Nite Owl was meant to be an analogue for Blue Beetle (the second Nite Owl adds in some Batman) and the Owlship was basically a mix of the Blue Beetle Bug and the Batmobile. So it makes sense it reminds you of that.
Probably my favourite movie from last year. It was so good. The family aspect and the superhero aspect were both incredibly well done. The comedy was great along with the visuals. Solid 9.2/10
I love how both Blue Beetle AND Venom can basically be summed up as "symbiotic alien parasite gets stolen from rich and evil corporation and bonds with the unlikely protagonist. The hero learns how to use their new alien suit to fight someone from the evil company with the same power set."😂 I'm mostly joking because I still liked the movies, but couldn't help notice that haha
Fun fact, the translation sort of botched when the mother to Jamie said “And go kick their asses!” What she *actually* said was something like “and go kick the fucking sons of bitches”, i think the movie got away with having two f-bombs because they were said in Spanish lmao.
i was so upset when i saw this movie wasnt doing well in the box office and some people were even happy about it. It was so much fun great story great characters and a great message. at least we wil continue to get Xolo in the DCU as blue beetle he was amazing.
Watchman was supposed to be the Charlton characters. Owlman in Watchman was Blue Beetle and Rorscach was The Quistion. When DC bought these characters they had Alan Moore write a more gritty storyline for them because of the success of The Dark Knight Batman mini series. But changed their minds so that they could introduce them into the mainstream books in Crisis On Infinite Earths.
I watched it a couple of weeks ago and I loved it! Very fun, really great action scenes, practical effects and 1st ever Latino superhero. Makes me very hyped about the upcoming DCU!
This movie visually reminds me of the first Iron Man movie, you can tell that there’s CGi, but you can tell that it’s working from very good practical effects so it looks great
I still think that it was a serious mis-step to not have _the daughter of the earlier Blue Beetle_ and creator of the various gadgets and vehicles........ to _not_ be the one who used them, in favor of 'random relative of some guy' who is encountering this new tech for the first time. She's the desendant of the guy who made the stuff, let her drive that part of the plot.
Had the rest of the DC movies been this good, maybe they could have done without a forced restart under Gunn. It's honestly sad that this movie will get left behind because of the failures of other movies.
Jaime’s sister annoyed me at the start of this movie. Jenny literally told y’all not to open the box, but you pressure Jaime to do it anyway then get mad at Jenny when it has consequences? Cmon.
Watching this made me feel like the Normies watching The Empire Strikes Back for the first time and cheering at the Ugnaughts because they knew Nick Nolte's Quielle from The Mandalorian. I mean, I'm not going to sit here and pretend like DC Universe Online is a NEW game, but I didn't have any other context for "OMAC" until now.

48:47 Mark! 2.4K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️
Notes: Whoa! Is this my first time seeing one of your videos both this month and year? 😮
You guys are still so much fun to watch and hear! 😊
As a Mexican American this movie was made for me… I loved it.. I saw it in theaters and hope we get a 2nd one.
I’m not mex but I appreciate the Hispanic representation also it’s so nice to see a lot of things I grew up with in this movie
8:38 Mark! Note that the VFX team made the same mistake that was made in the first "Ironman" movie. There should not be any smoke! That suit isn't propelled by chemicals of the solid-fuel or liquid-fuel variety! It uses energy repulse! 😌 "Repulsor"!
One of my favorite DC heroes and a good movie IMO. I loved it and I’m hyped for the next one!!
39:49 Mark! Before this movie, Ted Kord, was the only one that I knew about! He has a character card in the RPG boxed kit! I have some of his comics and I read them.
The "Owl Man"? His technology is the most like Ted's. Do you remember that flying machine from the "HBO" mini-series? 🤔
As a Puerto Rican who also had a family death, film made me cry
3 times, the death, the afterlife, the final fight
It's wild how they went out of their way to make Jaime never kill anymore, but literally every single person on his side, other than his dad, kills at least one person.
Exactly! I didn't understand that whole cliché "no killing" thing that already doesn't make sense when even the grandma was murdering people with a minigun!😂
That’s why Jaime got the Scarab over anyone else in his family.
@@CommanderSteelTrap ... But he was going to do it. At least twice. He is stopped by the scarab and by his family. If he was chosen because he was inherently a better person compared to his family members, they failed to show it, because he still needed help to stop himself.
@@SomeRandomMario He was gonna do it in the heat of the moment, emotions high and everything. His family were willing to kill all willy-nilly and without any care. They very obviously showed him being better than them, to say otherwise would be wrong,
@@SomeRandomMario Being a good person doesn't mean you never make mistakes or never need help.
2:23 Mark! Howdy! 🤠 Did Eric just say "Beyonder"?! 🤔 If so, that's clever! But "Beyonder" is still one of my favorite "Marvel" characters! 😎
Underrated. Very enjoyable
Not

This is honestly a great movie with a great cast. Yes the plot is predicable, villain could be better, but I unironically love it.
Can't believe HOW GOOD THIS WAS!
Add him to the new DC, they didn't show any Snyder icon emblems
Awesome reaction! It was a joy to watch this movie with you guys!
Eric was so bloodthirsty lmao I’m glad BB was a good movie because I really like the Beetle/Jaime in Young Justice.
Blue Beetle is everything Marvel should have done a looooong time ago with the contemporary Mexican/Hispanic family story. DC beat them to the punch and it was greatly done!
i love this movie so much! jaime is one of my favorite characters and xolo is such a talented actor that i couldn't help but root for it
If you knew Blue Beetle from the comics then you wouldn’t like this movie & how it ruined the character & the lore.
@@packedentertainment2866 DUDE WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM?!
@@TheRManProds wdym?
@@TheRManProdsHe’s got nothing better to do than bitch about other people’s opinions lmao
I LOVED BLUE BEETLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GLAD THAT XOLO IS STAYING AS BLUE BEETLE IN THE DCU!
That was never announced & hopefully it won’t be because this movie was awful & bombed for a reason. Gunn said that blue beetle will be part of his universe but he purposely didn’t say Xolo’s.
@@packedentertainment2866 UM DUDE SHUT UP!

In the comics Garrett was the 1st iterations, Ted is the 2nd, and Jaime is the 3th
4:55 I think that was Cronos? It's a good Guillermo del Toro horror movie. Definitely would be worth a Blind Wave reaction someday.
let's goooo!! such a fun and wholesome movie, the family, fights and music were amazing! I really hope we see more Jaime in the future
Como chilena... y como latina. Amé esta película. La cantidad de referencias a nuestra cultura y sobretodo lo mexicano que llegó a nosotros en los 80/90 perfectamente utilizado.
Y si, las abuelas latinas te sacan la chucha.
As a Chilean Woman and as a Latina. I loved this movie. The amount of easter eggs to our culture and especially the Mexican thing that came to us in the 80s/90s... perfectly used.
And yes, latin grannys will smack the shit out of you.
Scarab - We are not killers Jaime
His entire family - LETS SEE WHO CAN DECAPITATE THE MOST ENEMIES
Ayyyy I’m glad you guys watched this
44:08 Mark! "I'll just watch it later."
It must be nice to still have that as a voluntary option!
My friend made me miss "The Marvels" at the local movie theater, though I had waited for however much time passed since "Captain Marvel" to see it at the theater! Unless "Netflix" gets it, it won't be a streaming option for me. If it were, it would still be on a tiny smartphone! Until our television and players are repaired or replaced, physical media isn't an option.
At least I got to see "Blue Beetle" and the second "Aquaman" movie because he was okay with seeing them.
I miss having reliable transportation. 😪
When I have the options available to me, I want to see every "Star Wars", "Star Trek", and CBM at least two to three times on the biggest screen that I can make the drive to! 🚗
I like you Eric, but I would never ever want you to be my city’s superhero 😂
btw as a child of latino immigrants y'all dont know much the scene of the family being herded out at gunpoint felt so terrifying i felt sick to the stomach, its like all the horror stories you hear about deportation
Watched it in the theatre and had an awesome time😊
A bloodthirsty Eric is my spirit animal
4:55 that's "Cronos" from Guillermo del Toro, an unsual take on the vampire myth it has a golden scarab that attach to people, good movie
3:09 for those of you who read the comic you know what they are and you know why Jaime’s one is special
So glad you guys are finally reacting to this movie blue beetle is one of my favorite DC and I was vary happy with the movie
You mentioned Watchmen. Fun fact: the original idea was to use the recently acquired Charleston comics characters, and Night Owl was going to be Ted Kord. But when DC said no, Alan Moore just created his own heroes.
Fun Reaction!
The director confirmed in the beginning that was a green lantern ring that helped deflect the scarab to earth
At first I didn't expected this movie to be good enough but surprisingly it was fun when I first watched it at the theatre..💯
The “no killing” rule is now a DC only thing, for the most part. About as common to the MCU as secret identities. As Natasha put it, “We don’t want to kill you, but we will.”
I saw this recently on a plane, I thought it was actually pretty good especially considering I had never heard of the character before
That’s why you enjoyed it. Had you known the character prior, you would see why they ruined the character & the lore.
@@packedentertainment2866 THEY DIDN'T RUIN THE CHARACTER! THEY NAILED BLUE BEETLE! XOLO WAS GREAT AS JAIME!
Fun fact: Nite Owl was meant to be an analogue for Blue Beetle (the second Nite Owl adds in some Batman) and the Owlship was basically a mix of the Blue Beetle Bug and the Batmobile. So it makes sense it reminds you of that.
Ted most likely is lost in time since his best friend is Booster Gold, who is a time traveler and father of Rip Hunter.
Probably my favourite movie from last year. It was so good. The family aspect and the superhero aspect were both incredibly well done. The comedy was great along with the visuals. Solid 9.2/10
The suit looked so good because it wasn't fully CGI. It's a full practical suit with cg enhancements.
Hey. I haven't seen this movie yet , so I'll come back soon with my opinion.
Hope Rick is ok , give him my best wishes 🤙
If you look closely you can see the zorg ZF-1 pod from 5th Element.
I love how both Blue Beetle AND Venom can basically be summed up as "symbiotic alien parasite gets stolen from rich and evil corporation and bonds with the unlikely protagonist. The hero learns how to use their new alien suit to fight someone from the evil company with the same power set."😂
I'm mostly joking because I still liked the movies, but couldn't help notice that haha

This was one of the best adaptation of the blue beetle my favorite superhero💪🏾
Just watched Blue Beetle recently and I honestly loved it
YES!!!!! I love this movie, it’s so good. Deserved to do well, I’m so upset it flopped.
Fun fact, the translation sort of botched when the mother to Jamie said “And go kick their asses!”
What she *actually* said was something like “and go kick the fucking sons of bitches”, i think the movie got away with having two f-bombs because they were said in Spanish lmao.
I like to imagine that Ted Kord is lost in time and space with Booster Gold somewhere lol
i was so upset when i saw this movie wasnt doing well in the box office and some people were even happy about it. It was so much fun great story great characters and a great message. at least we wil continue to get Xolo in the DCU as blue beetle he was amazing.
Toxic Snyder fanboys
Blue Beetle is excellent in and of itself; but pair Blue Beetle with Booster Gold and you have a comedy duo that is unrivalled among superheroes.
This movie was way more gripping than the Flash imo
I watched it a couple of weeks ago and I loved it!
Very fun, really great action scenes, practical effects and 1st ever Latino superhero.
Makes me very hyped about the upcoming DCU!
Man... the Maria la del Bairro and El Chapulin Colorado references caught me so off guard hahahaha
As i was watching the video i got on ad of Zorro series on Amazon Prime, now thats a reaction i want to see.
Except that this film is _because_ of the new direction under Gunn
eric is slowly turning into strax from dr who.

I did not know I needed to see “Blood Lust Eric” before 😂
Jaime’s sister annoyed me at the start of this movie. Jenny literally told y’all not to open the box, but you pressure Jaime to do it anyway then get mad at Jenny when it has consequences? Cmon.
Sounds like what siblings do.
Eric this entire reaction: Kill them!!!
Aaron in response: nooo that’s bad.
