    Pink Floyd used its predecessor for vocals live!!!
    You can see it in live at Pompei.
    And David Gilmour used another mic that isn't for vocals live.
    The Sm57
    Just like Lemmy!!!
    Lemmy even used it in Studio

    The 609 sounded extremely thin on your voice in comparison to this one. Didn't hate it on the acoustic, but man does it really shine on that electric. It must be really great for a bass player!

    Just bought the Sennheiser 906. It is everything I was hoping it would be.
    It has a crisp and clean sound. My amp sounds exactly like MY AMP through
    this mic!

    • @eternalism8274
      @eternalism8274 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      good. 609 is very dull, rated 16khz not 18k. 👎
      609 has extremely high handling noise, 906 probably same.

    Good little review. Covered the all important null points since instrument miking in ensemble contexts will be important to reduce spill to get clean tracking or front of house mixes. Speaking from a budget p.o.v and when my sister-in-law who lives above me is out and about, miking my amp is the best way to get a decent sound. This mike could allow me to get a decent sound to tape before I route through plugins. One day I may have a UA Ox or similar but for now this is a cost effective approach. Liked the quirky approach/edit of the review, fun & snappy. Let the force be with ye.

    Oh, and BIF...to my ears, this mic doesn't sound too bad as a spoken word/vocal mic *provided* you use a pop filter (just my 2c worth),....
    (I've seen this done but never did it myself -- use this mic to re-inforce the low end of a grand piano when recording with ribbons)

    The 409 used by Pink Floyd and The Doobie Bros and many others just blew this Mic away. They became the go-to mike for guitar amps. I owned five of them( sadly stolen from my rv) and today if you can find a good one its $1000- $2000 . That says a lot about this $200 mic. I've tried both the 609 and the 906. The 906 comes close to the 409 but doesn't do it to me. I can see sound cos, bands etc using the 906 onstage because its a cheap way to get a great live sound and its tough. These were not really designed for vocals, Sennheiser capitalized on the 409 reputation as a guitar cabinet mic. The 409 was a much better vocal mic, as can be heard on many live Floyd albums. In short, if you want a great live sound for half the price just get a 57, its gonna sound as good as the 906 and much better than the 609. And the 57 is a Mic you can't kill, it is a gluten for punishment. If you think the 906 sounds awesome, try it side to side against a 409.

      @@Podcastage Upate: For trumpet or alto sax etc I def use the pres. cut. It gets kinda shrill without it. For trombone or tenor sax though, leaving it flat is fine. Pres cut tends to make things sound a bit more vintage-y I guess, but it's not my favorite sound.

Im placing them BELOW the Ride and between the Hat/Crash, near the center of the stands and aiming at the center of the Floor Tom's or Snare respectively. With the CARD pattern, I can pick up the Toms and the Brass without picking up a...(gasp!!)...Loud Guitar Cab. I dont need to Gate, Compress or even EQ very much, save a bit for some Snare 'presence'...

    Dear Mr. Bandrew. Between the Senn e906, and the Shure beta 57A, can you tell me which one you prefer on acoustic guitar? BTW, this thing sounds really natural and balanced on your voice, it makes me want to buy it for vocals. (I know I'm probably the only weirdo that thinks that).

    • @Regular-Person-Guy
      @Regular-Person-Guy ปีที่แล้ว

      I did buy the e906. And it was really good on vocals. But, it was only because I used it with a DIY Neve 1073 mic preamp I had built. However, the DIY Neve preamp died about nine months later, and I had to live with the reality that the only reason it sounded good on vocals was the pre. Cause I tried to use it with onboard pres from my Motu and it was horrible. So yea, listen to Bandy. He's right, it's not a good vocal mic on it's own.@@johnnycreamsoda7979

    I have one of these for guitar. If you were going to add one additional mic mainly for vocals but also to experiment with dual mic’ing to add more room sound, what would you get? FYI, I’m using a UAD Arrow interface.

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could probably go with a good condenser like the NT1, the AT4040, or any number of options. They work well on singing vocals and also good for a guitar cab mic with more detail.

  • @nerdyneedsalife8315
    @nerdyneedsalife8315 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a random question but I'm curious. I saw this interface at a local store but it doesn't have USB out. If I were to use the RCA out to connect to my computer via USB sound card, would the conversion be done by the PC or does the interface still have an internal ADC.

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be done by the USB soundcard. If you connect the mixer to your computers 3.5mm mic input or line input jack, then your computer would be doing the A/D conversion.

    I just had a huge issue today with my focusrite 6i6.
    Yesterday I recorded with to mics and everything was working perfectly.
    One dynamic(Sennheiser e906) and one condenser mic that need phantom power (AKG c1000s).
    Today i tried to do the same,every time that im turning on the 48v with the dynamic mic plugged in im listening crazy electric fizzy noises.When im closing the phadom power everything works but I can't use the condenser mic.
    Also when im turning on the 48v phantom power and im unplugging the dynamic mic, everything works.
    So when im trying to record with both mics on the soundcard the situation is fucked up.The funny thing is that only one time worked well.
    Do you think that something was damaged while i tried to record with both mics or its another issue of the Scarlett 6i6 2 generation ???
    The crazy thing that I've noticed today that this is happening only with the Sennheiser mic.I tried my sm57,AKG D5,shure 57 beta today with the phantom power on and everything works perfectly.
    Do you think that the Sennheiser damaged because of the 48v ?
    Im thinking to return the mic i think my unit is faulty .
    Sennheiser should send me a brand new e906 .
