I just bought the Shure SM58 to compare with this mic, and the Sennheiser was clearly SUPERIOR in vocal reproduction, in every way. It had better highs, mid tones, and bass notes, and at least 3 decibels louder at identical sound levels than the Shure. Although the Shure would be fine for live performances and hard use, I'm choosing the e945 for the overall sound quality.
@@ChaunceysBailey Don't get me wrong, I love my old Shure. It sounds great, and is tough as nails. But for recording, definitely go with the Sennheiser. The Germans didn't almost win the war for nothing:)
@@ChaunceysBailey I have a Sennheiser 935, which is basically the same mic as the 945 with a wider pickup range. My bandmates have Shure Beta 58s …. which are a step up from the regular 58s. And the Sennheiser sounds much better.
Holy bloody sh*t. Great demo man. As great as the vocal demo was, my fave part was how great it did with the acoustic. Obvs Taylors are amazing anyway but that showed that this is a really great cover all mic. I agree with the cab sound, although it sounded better than even a 57 has for close micing cabs. I noticed there's a huge list of Mic reviews coming up , and requested reviews on your website. I'm surprised no Audix Om2,5,7 requests? The Om2 is a tank! nice review as always! my go-to channel for mic reviews.
I highly recommend this microphone, it's definitely made for the stage. However, I use it just to scream at dorks online in HD. I also have surround sound speakers, and can play music / whatever else at a decent volume and this doesn't pick up anything. If high enough volume, it may pick up a scent of what's in the background but you'll never hear it at the time / voice activation programs can be adjusted to not broadcast certain decibels etc.
Just another super great review by Bandrew. His expertise is so very accurate. I own this microphone and everything he says is professional and again accurate. Thanks Bandrew.
the review is spot on, as always! In a busy live mix this is one of the best live mics , I prefer it to the sm Beta 58. My voice is a a soft Baryton. But it's not the best mic if you voice stands alone like in a voiceover situation etc. or maybe semi acoustic jazz then I to would prefer something a little more relaxed, like its forefather the first version of sennheiser md431, but it cuts ! I use it while playing guitar but you need to stay in front of it though not as close as to an Audix om 7 or a Crown cm 310A, and its good at suppressing feedback but not as good as the om7 or Crown CM310a. And i too think you gotta watch out for sses and plosives, that seems to be an issue with modern sennheisers?
Your camera's AF failed you this time. but thanks for the long awaited review. I agree with you that e945 is for singing. I'd prefer the e935 for the rest of the application :)
I compare this to Sennheiser's versions of the guitar cab mics they offer : the e609 and the e906. the e609 is basically the same principle as what you get with the e935. for the extra cash with the e945, it offers a wider frequency that you can tailor to your specific needs at the eq of your console or virtual console OR simply put a mic foam windscreen on the e945 bad-boy and you'll wind up with zero plosives and still get the e935 sound. I have both mics, have done this, and it WORKS right out of the box and connected to an audio interface with zero eq needed. comments / questions ? - I've been doing this for 25 years in the audio business. - glad to help with any questions or concerns -- if you are on the fence, my personal opinion is the e945 offers a ton more for about $20.00 more than the e935. - oh and feedback rejection is off the charts amazing with the e945 by the way. wow just wow... so much presence / loudness you can pump up within your system before you even start to hear any feedback issues (due to it's supercardiod pattern design).
This did a lot better at plosives than the 15$ mic you reviewed. I also agree with you on the electric guitar. I think it sounded like it picked up too many high frequencies and did not sound bass-ey enough.
Not quite right, your bass can be controlled via your soundmixer which I imagine most people use one for these mics since they're XLR. I use the Sennheiser E945 with a Mackie ProFX8v2, and I customize the finer sounds for the mic with that mixer.
After all it is a vocal microphone, so no surprise that is where it is performing the best! It is not designed to put in front of a guitar amp or guitar, you would use different microphones or a DI input for that!
Pretty sure this mic is made to be used at very close proximity, so it has plenty of high end clarity while right up on it, giving it a bit of a scooped mids effect at that close proximity. This is where I think it sounded best on Bandrew's voice as well.
Hi, I'm a fan of your channel. I have a question. I play harmonica, and i use Shure Beta 57A & Behringer UM2 for recording. Is there any condenser microphone within $80, which may make my audios better? Actually, as my instrument is a high pitch one, i need a microphone which gives a better low, i mean better bass. Because my instrument is a heavy bright instrument, i always have problem with controlling the treble. Another query, if i buy Neewer NW700 or NW800, will my tonal quality degrade or upgrade? Thanks ❤
Hey you should review the Audio Technica ATM 410. It’s roughly the same price as the Shure Sm 58 but I personally prefer the sound of it. It’s much better suited for tenors.
The Frequency response is perfect for a dull voice. It cuts through the mix. Ive used this mic for recording indian folk instruments and it sounds better than a RØde NT 1 A, IMO.
would you recommend this for a live vocalist sitting on the floor while playing harmonium (Indian classical singing/music). Looking for something that will catch the vocals but not be over powered by the harmonium below the singer. Not sure if this would work for that or would you have a better recommendation for this scenario?
Hey Podcaststage, I have an option only to purchase shure 87a, Shure sm57, Senn 845s & e945 for podcast, ukulele sound recording and voice overs, which would you recommend out of these 4 options? Thanks and great videos!
I'm a tenor and I use the mic for stage/rehersals rock band. I have an e945 and I'm very happy with it. Now I'm looking for a second mic and I'm between a beta 58a and a beta 87a. Wonder which would be the best one.
The 58 is a Dynamic microphone and the 87 is a Condenser microphone. If you're looking for a second to do the same thing the Beta 58 would most likely serve you best. The 87 will pick up much more surrounding noise, just by the way the capsule works.
Thanks for this because I am currently looking for a supercardioid. In your opinion, which is the best for off-axis rejection because I want to record vocals whilst playing and recording acoustic guitar, and thus need as little bleed as possible? My current cardioids are useless, but the SM57 is actually okay. My budget is approx. £200 GBP / USD. I am also looking at the Shure Beta 57A, but perhaps you have better options. Thanks :)
Frankly, "PODCASTAGE" I'm a big fan of what you do on the youtube deal but I think you are GREATLY missing a few major things with this mic -- 1. put a foam screen on it, that will immediately get rid of the extra high end you are noticing, while at the same time, eliminating the plosives, AND that's a huge deal because most of the time, putting on a foam screen will dampen the sound to the point where you need to bump UP the high end on your mixing desk / console. no need to do that here - 2. You can ALWAYS lower the high end on the console which is a big plus because doing the opposite introduces hiss (for example using the shure SM58). - I could keep going but I hope you get the point. a little EQ shaping, and you can put this thing on anything and it works while getting rid of a bunch of background noise / feedback issues for live stage use. What do you think ?
E845 vs. AKG D5 - direct comparison please? So there's E835, you have done that, but it's a cardioid. The E945 is supercardioid so it's more comparable technically but it's not the same price range, much more expensive. The E845 is also supercardioid and closer in price to E835 and D5 (though still a lot more expensive than D5 in Europe), so it appears to be the most comparable.
Hey Bandrew, now that you've tested both, which would do a better job at spoken word in a live environment (like live podcasting)? The e835 (which I currently have three of) or the e945? They would be connected through a Behringer UMC series audio interface and be connected through a Fethead so I don't have to boost either too much through the interface.
@@Podcastage PHEW! Good, that means I don't have to go out and get three more Sennheiser mics. I can go out and get three OTHER microphones instead! I'm telling ya, it's a fever, and the only cure is more microphones

I have two e835’s and a e935 and they are the best I’ve used so far for PA/vocal music work. The e935 is slightly better at rejecting feedback and the are very detailed and sound like condenser mics. I use them for recording guitar amps and they sound better than my SM57’s. I have tried them against some SM58’s on stage and the Sennheiser’s are by far the best.
@@MegaAwesomeguys Supercardioid is better for noise rejection. It *does* gain a lobe of sensitivity from the back, but it's still better for noise rejection.

It is such a shame that Sennheiser does not offers a versions with a on/offswitch. I truly hate feedback and if it happends I wanna be able to kill it fast.
I would prefer the 945 over the 935 for the supercardoid pattern only and on loud stages. At home and with a baritone voice, the 935 will be a better choice.
Not worth the price, very well built and looks nice though. Sennheisers I've found are not good for spoken word (5:02). I'd go with an sE V7, Behringer BA85A, or Shure SM58/BETA58A or SM57 with A2WS windscreen. Thanks for the review.
@Podcastage I'm writing a really interesting script for an animation video. I'm really looking for someone that could play the role of a polar bear. Would you like to help me by doing some lines? What do you say? Plzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Bandrew could definitely Polar Bear. He could also Brown bear, but probably not grizzly unless he were the misunderstood Science Grizzly, like Donatello from the teenage mutant ninja grizzlies
it does not matter what that setting is on his box because he's plugged in using XLR and not 1/4 inch. - XLR is mic level, not line level so that switch is bypassed when an XLR cable is plugged in.
I’ve heard the e945 and e935 as well as the shure beta 58 and sm58 . I prefer the shure mics better then the e945 . The shure mics are much more warm and natural sounding . The e945 is bright sharp mic .
I hate when people bring a Sennheiser to the gig, not that it does not sound good for vocals, but after I say just one word on my condenser the problem arrises, Sen people want the same high frequency boost and airiness, which is not possible really as it does not produce those frequencies. Also, it has this nasty frequency curve which does help some people, but certainly not everyone. Condenser-like? :)
Is there any better mic for live vocals? I’m talking feedback rejection, clarity (for a tenor/baritone male voice with less sibilant articulation); but still somewhat full.
Hi earthling pal ! What kind of microphone would you suggest to someone who have a "bassy" voice like... Simon Parkes (th-cam.com/video/HDZVC725TIQ/w-d-xo.html) per example. apart that he could use voicemeter banana to tweak his tone ? Sennheiser mics seems to give more clarity to voices IMHO...

I have two e835’s and a e935 and they are the best I’ve used so far for PA/vocal music work. The e935 is slightly better at rejecting feedback and the are very detailed and sound like condenser mics. I use them for recording guitar amps and they sound better than my SM57’s. I have tried them against some SM58’s on stage and the Sennheiser’s are by far the best.
review this please

Thanks, you are great!
Which Is The Best Dynamic Microphone : Sennheiser E935 OR E945 For Live Show Only Vocal
Depends. Supercardioid is better assuming you stand completely still. Cardioid is better if you move a little.
@@xHadesStamps which is better for noise reduction? tooo much in my area
@@MegaAwesomeguys Supercardioid is better for noise rejection. It *does* gain a lobe of sensitivity from the back, but it's still better for noise rejection.
@David Stadium Heights Nope. e935, like the e835, is cardioid, not supercardioid.
Hello. tell me the top 5 dynamic microphones for a high male voice
Can this mic be used for live performances for flautist (flute)
so sound and sibilance wise, e935 is better?
yes
I ned a mic for flute , hamonica and singing. NOTHING fancy . I'm in between Shure beta a 58 and Sennheiser e945. Had a Shure sm 58 before ( got stolen) , it worked fine but would like to try something a little better .Thanks in advance for any answer.
Which one you went with?
Hello, i'm TH-camr that makes Piano & Vocal Covers, what mic would you recommend for me :) will this one do? ❤
lol Love you work. Brilliant!!
It is such a shame that Sennheiser does not offers a versions with a on/offswitch. I truly hate feedback and if it happends I wanna be able to kill it fast.
I have the E845, E935 & E945. They suit my voice better than an SM58, but plosives took me about 2 minutes to get used to.
Hi, Martin. of the E935 and E945, which do you prefer if pressed for one mic of the 2 ? thanks
@@coffeehigh420The E945 sweetheart
@@quovadis5890 thank you my love
@@coffeehigh420 Did you wash the dishes today honey?
@@quovadis5890 oh shoot! i've got it on the way back from work, love
please review sennheiser xs1 dynamic mic 🙏
does it have noise reduction or it's kinda like those condenser microphones?
It has noise reduction.
Hi, the E945 needs a Phantom Power supply?
No
At 3:00, this singing is kind of Blink 182-ish :D
Would you recommend this mic for home voiceovers?
(baritone voice here, with accented bass range)
I would prefer the 945 over the 935 for the supercardoid pattern only and on loud stages. At home and with a baritone voice, the 935 will be a better choice.
No. I tried e945 for that use. Great for singing on stage, but not so good for recording. It sounds like someone is shouting in your ear. 🙂
How it compare to e835 and e945?
Damn that sounds great!
Could you make a review for the Hyperx cloud orbit? Please, I said please
omg can u compare this to the new nexadyne from shureeee
Brilliant
Thanks so much David.
"Harmonic pearcing" that made Adele special🎉
Not worth the price, very well built and looks nice though. Sennheisers I've found are not good for spoken word (5:02). I'd go with an sE V7, Behringer BA85A, or Shure SM58/BETA58A or SM57 with A2WS windscreen. Thanks for the review.
Hahahahahaha, I always love the part when you throw the box away...
Only if your going to be recording Audio ??,
@Podcastage I'm writing a really interesting script for an animation video. I'm really looking for someone that could play the role of a polar bear. Would you like to help me by doing some lines? What do you say? Plzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Bandrew could definitely Polar Bear.
He could also Brown bear,
but probably not grizzly unless he were the misunderstood Science Grizzly, like Donatello from the teenage mutant ninja grizzlies
@@czdaniel1 but what if he never replies? =(
e945 or SM58!?... :-o
What are you wanting in a dynamic mic? Look into the e835 if you want slightly less boost than this Sennheiser.
E945. It is not even a contest. 😀
0:29 On the audio interface, why is the mic setting on Instrument?
it does not matter what that setting is on his box because he's plugged in using XLR and not 1/4 inch.
The e945 is bright sharp mic .
look at this guy Tascam TM-80
I hate when people bring a Sennheiser to the gig, not that it does not sound good for vocals, but after I say just one word on my condenser the problem arrises, Sen people want the same high frequency boost and airiness, which is not possible really as it does not produce those frequencies. Also, it has this nasty frequency curve which does help some people, but certainly not everyone. Condenser-like? :)
😍😍😍
👍👍👍
Is there any better mic for live vocals? I’m talking feedback rejection, clarity (for a tenor/baritone male voice with less sibilant articulation); but still somewhat full.
The Audix OM7 has been a mainstay for ages on loud stages. It is great at rejecting noise and sounds full. RHCP have used them live since forever.
New Podcastage product idea: microphone gum. 😜
What about acoustic fiddle etc
Hello fellow earthling.
Quite a nasal, hard sound on vocals so not great for podcasts - the sound would become quite tiring for a listener without EQ
Just compress it. It sounds amazing specially for rapping
