howq is it running better ? more power ?
A bad egr can cause a loss of power so after replacement you could have a very noticeable power gain and a much smoother running engine and better idle.
@@S14AA yes it also turned out to have a leak in the intercooler - had to get the garage to fix that but once done drives great again

Ok so really good video but the last 30torx bottom right was a nightmare to access . Really easy solution sorted it. Use a 30torx screwdriver and then they have a slot in the handle to insert another in the set to act as a lever. I mucked around for an hour trying to access. This was literally 2 minutes ! If you don’t have a set buy some as will save you a nightmare last bolt
Great advice, half the battle is trying to get to hard to access nuts and bolts so coming up with clever ways is always fun! 👍
Great insight, our 2015 T5 coming up with P0401 code. 2 garages have so far said £1,000 or more + vat (vw specialists), one said have to drop subframe to get to it (based on search with the registration plate), but our egr is in the same position as the one in your video. Have good mind to tackle myself!!
Yes if it’s positioned in the same way then defo have a go at it urself! You could save a load of money and time too. Good luck let me know how you get on😊
Hi. I have a 2013 transporter 5.1.
Your video was a great help. Unfortunately I spent 2 hours plus Removing one torx screw.
Stripped it down. The flap inside was coked solid. Stripped it down. Spent ages cleaning it completely. Looks like brand new. Just need a set of new gaskets and we’re good to go. I couldn’t believe the volume of baked on carbon inside.
Great job! Yes that carbon can be stubborn stuff to get off! Hopfully that’s yours all sorted out now 👍
Thanks for putting this up here, it was a big help to refer to when changing my vans egr this last weekend. The actuator on the one I took off had seized solid. Unfortunately, whoever had sorted it out previously to my ownership managed to strip the heads on two of the torx bolts and round the nut on the manifold pipe. It was a pig to get off! The video was helpful though.

@@MrAutoFixer I mounted it back on with replacement hex head bolts, and left the one off under the elbow pipe.It'll make it easier for myself "next time". 3 bolts should be enough to keep it in place, hopefully! I've had nothing but issues with it for the past few weeks, slowly working my way through the potential problems (warning lights still on the dash).

How did you manage to get the bolts of in the end?, my top 30torx on the right hand side is rounded off. Can’t get enough behind a hammer to get a bigger size but in ether
@@JayD9Five I used the ball end of a small ball pein hammer and gently tapped the stripped head back in on itself. It worked just enough to get the torx bit to "bite". I also used a small chisel with hammer on the outer edge of the bolt head. The chisel should bite into the bolt head and you can tap it gently in the direction of rotation to loosen it off. It took a while but hopefully this will work for you as well. I also applied penetrating fluid liberally whilst doing this.I feel your pain, as it's a bad enough job to do without the extra hassle! I'm getting a recurring EGR low flow fault on my T6 and seem to be suffering from a reduction in mpg. Not sure if the two are connected, any ideas?
I'm thinking I need to be in the market for a replacement EGR Valve, I don't see the point in trying to clean it just to get the same issue weeks later, plus it means less down time for the vehicle.
Hopefully this will be the first time it's been off (66 Plate 84,000 ish miles) so no bodged fasteners???

Yes that sounds like yours is getting clogged up with a low flow code, a bad EGR can have a negative affect on the MPG so defo worth taking off and having a look but have a new one there ready to replace it as chances are you will need the new one! Good luck let me know how it goes👍

Would stuck EGR-valve result in engine running cold or hardly warm up unless after a long drive?
A stuck EGR valve won’t have any affect on the temperature, it’s there to recirculate the exhaust gases for efficiency and anti pollution purposes, there are lots of educational videos online on how they work 👍
Hey there, I had my EGR valve replaced about 18 months ago after a fault reading, it's now back, P0403 Pending EGR A Control Circuit/Open. I called the guys who did it, and they said "yeah EGRs don't last long, can look into replacing it for really expensive again, or wiring it out for fairly expensive". I was suprised there was no cleaning it option from them. What would you recommend? And what is cheaper?
You could always look into have a remap done that can erase it so it’s no longer used but I would speak to a company that deals with it. You don’t want to be replacing it that often ! 👍
@@MrAutoFixer ah yes, that remapping is what I meant by wiring out. That is also quite expensive though, and I'm left wondering, doesn't my van need the EGR? Isn't remapping it gonna be bad for the van?
Ps. Before I did this, I changed the boost solenoid and the map/f sensor. Made no difference.
It’s a fairly simple but manky job cleaning it out.
I agree it can be a messy job but well worth doing 💪
