My 9th grade social studies teacher had us read this book, watch this movie, and took us through several experiments on how communism fails. I need to give him a call and thank him for preparing me for today. The commies are getting too powerful.
the book is a crizicism on capitalism AND communism. The author was very in favour of socialism, but wanted to point out that a planned economy can result in a dictatorship of beaurocracy, in other words: the state owning the means of production, rather than the workers directly. He was an anarchist socialist, who lived to see the only occasion in which the workers organized themselves freely, without hirarchy (catalonia during the spanish civil war, where he fought with an anarchist group). If the the only message you received from the book is "commies" bad while the message quite directly is "authoritarian commies and capitalists" bad, you should read it again. How could you think this is somehow pro capitalist? The end scene quite directly says that the pigs and humans are equally bad, not that the humans are better (humans representing capitalists in the book).
Clearly he didn’t teach you well enough to understand that the ending is literally a reflection of how communism turns into capitalism, which is a bad thing. God, you’re such an idiot.
