Fun fact: The voice actor (Randy Quaid) doing the singing was not the guy doing the yodeling. In fact, not only was it a different guy, but there were TWO guys doing the yodeling, one for the lower tones and one for the higher ones, and they needed to time it perfectly when the yodeling went into the different ranges, as well as when the vocals came in.
Now that's teamwork
Another fun fact: The voice actor for the latinamerican dub sang this whole song by himself and he did it so flawlessly that countries like Japan, China, Brazil, Italy and Spain used his version for the yodeling parts.

- Sings cows along rather than using beta tactics like rope and whips
- Sees try-hard beta riding towards him with a gun, doesn't care, his song isn't over yet
- Too badass for a gun anyway, just needs a couple spurs for a flawless getaway where no-one gets hurt

Fun fact: Slim was originally going to be a more serious villain. In the earlier scripts he was going to be an undead outlaw who used his yodeling to hypnotize cattle to charge off cliffs to get revenge because he was trampled to death by cattle. This was changed to make him a more goofy villain as his next iteration was going to use his yodeling to amass an army of cows to charge the White House so he can become President but was also changed due to how ridiculous it sounded

Personally, I wish they had stuck with the idea of making Slim an undead, yodeling, zombie cattle rustler. It would have given the film a delightfully creepy overtone. The only real drawback would be trying to figure out how to make a character who isn't technically alive suffer a "Disney Villain Death."
What's really funny is that this is not just a gag in the movie. There are really people who can entice cattle into going just about anywhere by yodeling or singing. My Mom was one such person.

@@emperorbooglitch8540 I have mostly subjective issues with how certain characters are written, and there's a choppiness to the plot (and some recycled animation in a manner we haven't seen in the Disney Animated Canon since the Xerography era of the 60s and 70s) that points to a troubled production rushing out a product before it was the best it could be - likely because the traditional animation department was on its last legs due to losing money on the more recent preceeding films (mostly unfairly)

What's crazy is that Slim actually did this as a profession before he turned to crime. Apparently, he worked as a ranchhand but was fired because everyone hated his yodeling. Whether or not he was a terrible yodeler at the time and perfected it, I don't know, but I imagine *any* cattle driver who didn't want to have someone who could so easily control cows would have to be out of their mind.

One of the amazing things about this is it's a real thing. Some old German cowboys brought the yodel to the plains, and if you've ever played music for cows they're genuinely curious creatures. As long as they're not spooked or stressed, you can actually yodel as a form of getting their attention. Especially if they're trained that it has a positive association.

My grandfather couldn't yodel but would song to his braunveih cows, and they'd follow him around like ducks, all in a row, to get feed.
Same goes for horses btw. Most horses like, specialy my horse: March of the Siberian Riflemen, Soviet version of Farewell Slavianka, Song of Stalins artillery, Partisan Song, Lyube songs, preferably the Horse one, Wanderer by Ensiferum, Christmass Truce by Sabaton, March of Soviet Tanks, Wo alle Straßen enden, German Imperial Anthem, Austrian Imperial Anthem, Cossack songs, and Lady in Black.

The main characters are unbearable and the movie failed to make me even care for them. Only Slim is the only character car I can tolerate and the music as well.
He drugged all the cattle with shrooms and LSD and they followed his yodeling because they're hypnotized from tripping balls
His crimes bankrupted lots of farmers, but perhaps he genuinely has some empathy for animals. And his nephews/partners in crime

Slim is one of the most exciting villains in a Disney movie at the time it came out. After a long string of more serious, brooding, and threatening villains (Yzma and Kronk excluded), Slim is a breath of fresh air. He just steals the show with his craft and his passion for it.
The rest of the movie is very middle of the road, but I imagine the villain was the most fun part to everyone working on it
Ehhh, if yzma had better taste in assistants, she probably would have killed kuzco. She was plenty villainous, kronk just kinda foiled her plans all the time lol

Then put that box into another box. Then ship that box to herself. Then when the box arrives to smash it with a hammer!
So while her looks make her quite threatening. Serious or brooding in the villainous department. I do not think so. Though she is villainous in a cartoonish way.
Yzma was meant to be more serious in the Kingdom of the Sun (What the movie originally was meant to be), she was a necromancer witch. A very different villain from the one we got.

I remember seeing this in theatres with my grandparents and all the kids and adults actually applauded Slim's yodeling.
I like that his character design starts out dark and pointy and then it subverts expectations by having him be a rounder more colorful character

his yodeling is so powerful that he's actually sung by three guys lol, one for the normal vocals, one for the high tone yodels, and one for the low tones. Apparently it required skill to swap between wm but if you pay attention you can sometimes hear the swaps as they occur (at least I believe that you can lol). In the Spanish dub the voice actor did so well that he did all three parts solo and Apparently has his yodels reused for the other dubs
I feel like this is the result of someone that is good at writing music being challenged to writing a yodel song and that person just responds with "Hold my beer..."

Unbelievable. He's actually yodeling several iconic tunes. The first one is an old cartoon tune they used westerns.
The second is friggin Yankee doodle.

I heard the Japanese version and knowing who the voice actor is for him in that version it’s not only impressive how good an older Japanese man can yodel but the knowledge that Dracula is yodeling.

This movie was like a fever dream
I don't get why this movie is so hated. Not my favorite Disney movie by a LONG shot but it's so so much fun and I think the cast really had a good time. The animation in this scene alone is a trip.
I recently watched this movie immediately after Dumbo stoned off my mind with some friends and this sequence was far more entertaining on the high (to be fair we were like an hour in the bud lol) than the Pink Elephants
Yeah, the whole style, there's many times where we see things without outlines, which somehow fits very well with the whole wild west aesthetic. Does that make sense?

It represents the ultimate downfall of the Golden age of Disney. The last 2D film before abandoning the original art that Walt set out to do and making Pixar rip-off style 3D outings.

Honestly this has got to be one of the smoothest Disney villains to date
I've NEVER seen this movie before. THIS is a very interesting concept for a villain. He's a successful highly wanted criminal that uses such a non-violent method to steal cattle.
Same, the fact that he isn't violent towards animals and instead uses his titanium vocal chores and intoxicating and hypnotising yodelling skills to take full command of them is double as impressive as most villains, movies should include more villains like Alameda Slim for sure!

God damn correct mister or miss! When I was small, I didn't like the movie cause that yodel part got me traumatized and scared, and at this close up, I cringed so fucking hard that I could almost taste my own vagina! But now I love this part! Funny as hell! Except the cringey close up, I'm still trying to get use to it... See?

This guy grew on me cause out of all the disney villain spectrum he has the most realistic goals, and uses the silliest means to achieve them. it's genius

And when I rewatched it, I remember when Maggie was introduced, she was still slightly in a trance from when Slim rustled her old home, it was kinda cool slight foreshadowing
Say what you want about this movie, but it has one of the best Disney Villain songs I've ever heard. This is the song of a villain who does what he does with a joyful smile on his face and a pep in his step.

Genuinely one of the most underrated villain songs. This has absolutely no right to slap as hard as it does. It is literally the only thing I remember about this movie.

It was somewhere around 2005 when i first saw this film. I was only seven and this being the only scene that remained in my head since. Now i found it! Disney should recognize this masterpiece!

This is another of those 'dark age of Disney' films (their second dark age - after the 90s renaissance) that I adore
Flopped hard on release (not enough to be a bomb - that was Treasure Planet and Atlantis the Lost Empire) but hard enough to pull the final haymaker that would lead Disney to shut down their 2D animation branch after Princess and the Frog
Always makes me sad because now Disney just remakes everything or is focused *completely* on CG and television properties
I enjoy that too - but I'll always adore this screwball comedy and wish it had done better back in the day
Treasure planet and atlantis get too much hate personally they are two of my favourite disney films
The biggest problem is that, well, 2D was literally on the way out in this time period, and 2D animation in the traditional sense was literally on the way out (and one of the last holdouts (anime) were slowly switching to 2D CGI software during this period, with _Gundam_ being one of the big-leaguers leading the charge) due to the sheer expense.
Its funny bc i love Atlantis too i must like their "flop" movies a lot 😹
Treasure Planet and Atlantis are also very underrated (even if I personally think Atlantis is an inferior Nadia and The Secret of Blue Water)
I remember when I first watched this movie and this song was so gosh darn catchy I had to keep rewinding it back. A lot of people may hate this movie but honestly it's such an underrated film. In fact this song made me appreciate yodeling all that much more.
This song was honestly the best part of the whole movie, I've had it stuck in my head ever since I was a kid and it's easily the most "stick out" moment for me. The movie may not have been "good", nor "terrible" by different peoples' standards, but you can't deny that this song's catchy as hell!

Considering how everyone talks about the amazing skill it takes to yodel like that or how good of a lighthearted villain Alameda Slim is, it is hard for me to admit this, but I just gotta... I think the thing I like most about the lyric itself is how he almost literally says he has "cattle out the ass" at 2:30 (look up "Wazoo" if you don't believe me) XD I just love that, he's absolutely joyous in this moment and just flaunting at everyone within earshot XDXD
