Man, it just randomly went away when the temperature warmed up. I honestly think it’s like Toyota’s default “limp mode” if anything’s wrong. But if you disconnect your battery over night and start it up in the morning, it should reset it. But it may come back on again, and I think it’s possible it’s a sensor and maybe one that an OBDII Reader wouldn’t pick up on 🤷‍♂️ It’s weird. If I was you, I would drive to a Toyota dealership repair shop and don’t go to the desk if you can, just see if there’s a mechanic that’s worked on RAV4s there and simply tell them, “Hey I keep getting stuck in this 4WD locked limp mode, I’ve replaced all these things. Is this just a generic limp mode for various issues? Cause the thing is I don’t exactly want to pay a shop to look it all over, I was just hoping maybe somebody like you could help a bro out and tell me what you know, I don’t wanna waste your time, but I’m having trouble fixing this.” I bet he’d lead you the right direction like maybe another guy there that would know, just to help you out really quick and be helpful. If they’re not, just go to another one or a non-Toyota shop and kee searching. Because I honestly can’t tell you. Mine happened when I started the thing and I shifted IMMEDIATELY into Drive, it went into that 4WD locked “limp mode” and I couldn’t shut it off even after overnight battery resets; it just fixed itself when the weather warmed up 😂🤷‍♂️ So try the reset thing, and if nothing, keep searching online, there’s actually a Facebook RAV4 group for our generation RAV4s and you could ask there. If you can’t find it, write me back here and I’ll get you in-I’d almost guarantee you somebody there knows something! -Jesse
