like the mk4, this new supra is compromised in its stock form but the opportunities to make it your own with aftermarket upgrades is really exciting to me. I also think it’s got more personality, as the imperfections almost make me like this car more in a way. As someone who has never owned a car with more than 1.3l engine, I can’t wait to experience one of these. Picking one up in a few months and it can’t come soon enough!!!
As a Toyota guy who’s had a BMW or two that tried to destroy me financially, I hope they know what they’re doing. The first time I or any other Toyota guy see’s one of these on the shoulder with its flashers on, or ascending the flatbed of a tow truck, or glitching out on TH-cam or our IG feeds, it’s gonna break our damn hearts not to mention our faith in the brand going forward. Seeing a BMW with a Toyota badge is already painful enough after hearing about their backwards climate stance here in the US after years of touting their hybrids and supposed push for sustainability. You’re in dangerous waters, Toyota. VW already sank here over diesel-gate and nose diving brand image thanks to their less than stellar reliability.

Nice car, in real world scenario's. Already at roughly 370 bhp as standard (so outruns the new Z4), is very easily remapped to 430+ bhp and still has the JDM look about it, (even if it's made in Europe).

Their review explains it. Toyota didn't put enough effort to make it a Supra. Even the interior screams BMW with the attached display like BMW does. It's not original at all. They went as far as to have the speakers make engine noises to fake out the customer. You can't even turn it off, WTF?!? If you ask me this is annoying that car manufacturers are making cars with the interior speakers sound like engine. Kinda disgraceful in my opinion.

The problem with this car is the name. If toyota hadnt brought it to the market as a new version of the legendary mk4 everyone would have loved it. The thing people like about the mk4 is the 2j engine. Were annoyed they haven't spend the money and effort to develop a new engine. If they didn't claim it lives up to the supra name it would be fine and a great car.

I really don't see the issue with it being based on a Z4 and have BMW branding on it. BMW make great cars and are fantastic engineers as are Toyota. The 2 of them teaming up on a car can only be a good thing

Got rid of my 68 plate 718 Cayman S for the new Supra. Considerably better than the Cayman IMO.... More torque and a smoother delivery, more comfort and lots more attention and kerb appeal. Get over the BMW bit, after all, they do build a very solid motor ;)
How does the ZF gearbox compare to the PDK unless you had a manual ? Driven a 718 Cayman it handles and drives very nice ! Would love to drive a supra but not 25 lol
Nazim Uddin To be fair the PDK is near unbeatable but that would be the only thing that is. Nothing wrong with the Supra auto it’s just not a PDK (but what is). Believe me I’ve done half day track events in Caymans and Supras and owned/own both and the Supra is the clear winner. Make sure u test a Supra you’ll be amazed.

You do realise that we're a small minority. Very few people actually buy sports cars and due to this it means that we're also very educated and not a general consumer who just goes by what they're told to like or what they like the look of. You and I know the weight the supra name carries we also know toyota are amongst the biggest companies out there so that's why most people who were in the market for a sports car felt jaded when Toyota didn't even try to make it themselves or even try make it that different from the BMW its based on and that's also why they're not selling well at the moment as well.
So? The z4 is a good car, Toyota took it and made it lighter and more focused, it looks a lot better too I agree that the interior could be better but it's a great car. The golf gti is the same as a skoda vrs or a seat leon nobody complains about that, by parts sharing you save money and it means more choice for people in this market. Most people don't drive a million cars over their lifetime and won't notice if it has a BMW characteristic, these guys are spoilt with cars and notice the things normal people wouldn't
aproductofboredom The 4th generation Supra didn’t sell that well either and it was pure Toyota. It was on sale in the US between 93-96 and pulled from the market because of low sales. Can’t really blame Toyota for not building the new Supra from scratch.
With current laws and standards they most likely have to tone down the loudness decibels along with the mileage requirements. That's probably why they had to make fake engine noise through the stereo. They should just turn it off, I agree.
I think it would have been incredible specially when you look at lotus I see what they did with the evora Toyotacould I had done better than this could have use existing engine and transmissions they have now and went to TRD and there's something there

If a car company like Toyota is no longer able to make cars, then it's not worth being a car company. With this said, the Supra is miserably failing to sell in the US which makes me happy in the hope it teaches Toyota a lesson and makes them to build their legend on their own and give us a real Supra.
This is a tuner car. It's not really supposed to be impressive in stock form. But that 3L turbo can run rings around any Cayman four pot with a mere ECU flash.
Toyota literally said that BMW gave them the platform,engine,and chassis needed to make the car then after that they went there separate ways with the development.. The design(the body of the car),tuning,and driving is the complete different from the Z4.
@ngcsu noting wrong with the brz/86. They were made to be a really usable platform like all of the drift,drag,track,auto cross,rally cross,or offroad. Same thing with the mk5, they wanted a chassis that can be used for street,track,and drag use and look were they are Now.

Thank God it reminds me in nothing off that Lotus I once had, the Supra is a great car thanks to the cooperation of two fantastic car manufacturers, TOYOTA and BMW.
No wonder they were worried about the Yarris GR disturbing the Supra sales. Yaris GR is forming to be a real classic. My dream car for sure. This I don't want even as a present, don't need another faulty BMW.
The BMW Supra doesn't do it for me. To me it looked kind of old-ish even at launch, i of course hate that it's a BMW in a different suit, and i loathe that it has the playstation fake engine sound bullshit. So very not a car for me. If you do buy one go have the alignment checked. Several Supras have been found to have fucked alignment, which makes them twitchy.

He works for Apex at The Ring, and they had trouble with what they felt was an overly twitchy Supra. They had it checked, and - if memory serves me right - the right back wheel was off compared to the left. When he posted that in a Supra owner's chat, several people went and had their twitchy Supra checked, and apparently found the same problem. One wonders why that happened..

It’s bizarre because it’s based on a convertible and the rear interior is all weird after disguising the hard points of the monocoque where the folding roof mechanism goes.
Yeah they should've spend a little more effort to hide the BMW underpinnings... On the other hand the Z4 only comes as a roadster, if it was available as a coupe the Toyota's existence would be pointless but this way it kind of makes sense to buy... @@mrjjthor My Toyota just got it's second recall of the year. And it has gone in for several TSB's in the last year or two. The only good thing is I bought it new cheap due to the unintended acceleration issue Toyota had a while ago.
@@dcola123 several of my Toyotas has had multiple recalls also. The way I see it, it's better that the manufacturers do the recall and get a free repair rather than brushing off the issues and passing the bill to the consumer.
@@mrjjthor My Prius uses a quart of oil every 500 miles. The solution, an engine rebuild for $2,800. The EGR system needs to be rebuilt/replaced at $800. Intake manifold was so dirty it was causing issues, we replaced it instead of cleaning it at 120k, cost $1,200. All three are know problems. Toyota's response was "cash please". Car is 9 years old with 160,000 miles. This was after we went in for a recall/TSB (?) that fixed the engine from sounding like it was smashing into the front of the car on restarts when cold. I like Toyota cars and will buy more, but I also realize they are good cars, but not perfect, no brand is. I also like BMW's and will buy more in the future too.

They should try the Porsche counter part which for 52k would be a 2.0l 4 cylinder turbo which after the GPF doesn’t make any sound whatsoever and would not be having forged 19” SatNav heated Seats or anything. Plus the engine builders say it’s one of the best engines out there and capable of double it’s power without mechanical changings. I used to have a 718 cayman S and loved the steering brakes and driving position- but if you love cars or engines you’ll never get used to the engine it’s just not emotional at all 😖
The funny thing is about critics and pundits of the Supra is how they are so critical of it being a BMW, Then the buyers will most likely modify the hell out of it that its barely the same car.

I really wish the people that talked about this car . Would do their research about BMW and Toyotas involvement in making this car. They were both very Hands-On in the development of the chassis. Language barrier cause them a lot of trouble. Toyota send every part to their testing area to ensure get the parts that hold up. The engine and Chassis should be Bulletproof. Personally I think it's an amazing car it was not a cheap out on BMW Orr Toyota.

Supras aren't Camrys like how those "lexus enthusiasts" are with there everyday "reliable elephant"of a camry lookalike. Tell me if the LC500 was so reliable then weres the evidence of it pushing more power reliabily? Were the evidence of it making decent track times?weres the evidence of it making good drag times? The mk5 isn't a Lexus and will more than likely end up just like the mk4....modified to all crap,rarely stock,and will be all over the stock market for swaps or drag or track uses.

The fact that the new Supra doesn't have a wrap around dash is just disappointing to me.
Toyotas flagship car is a 98% Bmw Z4 and 2% toyota badges mostly, disappointing

Got rid of my 68 plate 718 Cayman S for the new Supra. Considerably better than the Cayman IMO.... More torque and a smoother delivery, more comfort and lots more attention and kerb appeal. Get over the BMW bit, after all, they do build a very solid motor ;)
How does the ZF gearbox compare to the PDK unless you had a manual ? Driven a 718 Cayman it handles and drives very nice ! Would love to drive a supra but not 25 lol

To be fair the PDK is near unbeatable but that would be the only thing that is. Nothing wrong with the Supra auto it’s just not a PDK (but what is). Believe me I’ve done half day track events in Caymans and Supras and owned/own both and the Supra is the clear winner. Make sure u test a Supra you’ll be amazed.

The B58 engine has so much tuning potential it makes sense why Toyota did go for the BMW collaboration . How long was the waiting list and did you get a launch edition ?

You do realise that we're a small minority. Very few people actually buy sports cars and due to this it means that we're also very educated and not a general consumer who just goes by what they're told to like or what they like the look of. You and I know the weight the supra name carries we also know toyota are amongst the biggest companies out there so that's why most people who were in the market for a sports car felt jaded when Toyota didn't even try to make it themselves or even try make it that different from the BMW its based on and that's also why they're not selling well at the moment as well.
So? The z4 is a good car, Toyota took it and made it lighter and more focused, it looks a lot better too I agree that the interior could be better but it's a great car. The golf gti is the same as a skoda vrs or a seat leon nobody complains about that, by parts sharing you save money and it means more choice for people in this market. Most people don't drive a million cars over their lifetime and won't notice if it has a BMW characteristic, these guys are spoilt with cars and notice the things normal people wouldn't
aproductofboredom The 4th generation Supra didn’t sell that well either and it was pure Toyota. It was on sale in the US between 93-96 and pulled from the market because of low sales. Can’t really blame Toyota for not building the new Supra from scratch.

As it is stock I would give it a 6/10 just isn't special but if you look up D1GP they are awesome drifting machines.

If a car company like Toyota is no longer able to make cars, then it's not worth being a car company. With this said, the Supra is miserably failing to sell in the US which makes me happy in the hope it teaches Toyota a lesson and makes them to build their legend on their own and give us a real Supra.
This is a tuner car. It's not really supposed to be impressive in stock form. But that 3L turbo can run rings around any Cayman four pot with a mere ECU flash.

Toyota literally said that BMW gave them the platform,engine,and chassis needed to make the car then after that they went there separate ways with the development.. The design(the body of the car),tuning,and driving is the complete different from the Z4.
@ngcsu noting wrong with the brz/86. They were made to be a really usable platform like all of the drift,drag,track,auto cross,rally cross,or offroad. Same thing with the mk5, they wanted a chassis that can be used for street,track,and drag use and look were they are Now.

The BMW Supra doesn't do it for me. To me it looked kind of old-ish even at launch, i of course hate that it's a BMW in a different suit, and i loathe that it has the playstation fake engine sound bullshit. So very not a car for me.
If you do buy one go have the alignment checked. Several Supras have been found to have fucked alignment, which makes them twitchy.
It's called electronic steering and run flat tyres makes it "twitchy" a stupid BMW trait......
@@matthewcoupeofficial No. I'm talking about actual alignment issues. First I heard of it was from Misha Charoudin, in a video called "The most important Supra mod". He works for Apex at The Ring, and they had trouble with what they felt was an overly twitchy Supra. They had it checked, and - if memory serves me right - the right back wheel was off compared to the left. When he posted that in a Supra owner's chat, several people went and had their twitchy Supra checked, and apparently found the same problem.
One wonders why that happened..

It’s bizarre because it’s based on a convertible and the rear interior is all weird after disguising the hard points of the monocoque where the folding roof mechanism goes.
Yeah they should've spend a little more effort to hide the BMW underpinnings... On the other hand the Z4 only comes as a roadster, if it was available as a coupe the Toyota's existence would be pointless but this way it kind of makes sense to buy... The thing is, a few stickers and a remodeled interior wouldn't have bankrupted Toyota...

There was another recall for the Supra but this time for headlights switches. Guess who is responsible for the recall? You guessed it....BMW.
@@mrjjthor My Toyota just got it's second recall of the year. And it has gone in for several TSB's in the last year or two. The only good thing is I bought it new cheap due to the unintended acceleration issue Toyota had a while ago.
@@dcola123 several of my Toyotas has had multiple recalls also. The way I see it, it's better that the manufacturers do the recall and get a free repair rather than brushing off the issues and passing the bill to the consumer.
@@mrjjthor My Prius uses a quart of oil every 500 miles. The solution, an engine rebuild for $2,800. The EGR system needs to be rebuilt/replaced at $800. Intake manifold was so dirty it was causing issues, we replaced it instead of cleaning it at 120k, cost $1,200. All three are know problems. Toyota's response was "cash please". Car is 9 years old with 160,000 miles. This was after we went in for a recall/TSB (?) that fixed the engine from sounding like it was smashing into the front of the car on restarts when cold.
I like Toyota cars and will buy more, but I also realize they are good cars, but not perfect, no brand is. I also like BMW's and will buy more in the future too.

They should try the Porsche counter part which for 52k would be a 2.0l 4 cylinder turbo which after the GPF doesn’t make any sound whatsoever and would not be having forged 19” SatNav heated Seats or anything. Plus the engine builders say it’s one of the best engines out there and capable of double it’s power without mechanical changings. I used to have a 718 cayman S and loved the steering brakes and driving position- but if you love cars or engines you’ll never get used to the engine it’s just not emotional at all 😖

After threatening legal action after Toyota advertised if you don’t like you swap it deal I took them up and changed it for a nine press car

Would do their research about BMW and Toyotas involvement in making this car. They were both very Hands-On in the development of the chassis. Language barrier cause them a lot of trouble.
Toyota send every part to their testing area to ensure get the parts that hold up.
The engine and Chassis should be Bulletproof.
Personally I think it's an amazing car it was not a cheap out on BMW Orr Toyota.
