  • Hello everyone today I'm going to cut about 1300+ cobblestone blocks, all made out of styrofoam craft foam to create our large-scale diorama great for displaying our large WWII 1/16 tanks.
    We will also create trees, bushes, and a garden wall and paint and weather the whole thing
    Thanks for watching.

    Shaking the foam with the rocks in a box is an absolute pro tip. Look so natural after that.

    Nice model...there is just one missing detail.
    On boundary walls in cities and towns you would not have exposed mortar joints on the top. Usually walls had capping slabs of sandstone or some other dressed stone. The reason being most brickwork up to the 1950's was constructed with lime based mortar which was more soluble and eroded quicker then the Portland Cement that is used today.
    To give you an example, the house where I live was built in 1903, and the rear boundary wall is 19 courses of bricks and is just under 5.5 ft high. On top of the brickwork there are sandstone slabs approx. 4ft x 1ft x 3" across the top.
    Another thing to note when modelling old brickwork is that the mortar is not flush with the brick sides - before I repointed my boundary wall there was a gap of over 1/4" deep between the bricks.

    Don't know if you read all older comments. A recent friend passed away about a year or go. I was given most of his models and this rekindled a hobby that I haven't done in 40yrs. He was a hoarder. I seen in your video list older models. 1st manufactured in England by Eaglewall Plastics L.T.D. The German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen scale 1/ 1200. This was the Bismarcks escort when the H.M.S. Hood was blown to pieces. Prinz Eugen then watched the Bismarck sink later. This is definitely old and I think around late 50s. Both models assembly sheets are tan and fragile from age. 2nd. Revell Inc. Venice Calif Hospital Ship Haven. On the Hospital Ship Havens assembly sheets there are pics of other kits and 1 is Aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt. Length 21.5 and it only cost $2.49. You built a carrier CV4 350 scale and do you sell kit if so price. Also any military war ships in the 350 scale plz

    LOL, I'm visiting my daughter and her fiance in Denmark right now. (New baby) You did pretty well. You can randomly put some of that green on the cobblestones. I helped the kids clean up their "garden" out back and that stuff is everywhere. I'll take some pictures and see if I can figure out how to put them on here or show you next time I can afford to drive way the hell out to your store from the east valley, if you're interested.
    Another great video. Patience of a saint. Show off.

  • @PhuVet
    @PhuVet 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks good. Because I care about the channel, you would never call them cobbles. Think of cobble as a verb, it was called cobbled stone until some moron tried changing it to "cobblestone" To call the stones cobbles would be like looking at a fast car and renaming it a "fast" it's a car, not a fast, that is something entirely different. So just call them Stones. The cobblestone word was a part of that American English vs English movement. It's wrong on many levels. Use it as an adjective or verb, not a noun.
    Keep up the good work, I just would feel bad to let someone call you out in the real world and say that nobody cared about you enough to help you fix it. We do.
    Btw, Night shift did this first I think, he did the rock thing before covid.

    @ 18:06 - what I’ve found that works great on any foam, is Gorilla Clear (non-foaming) and maybe a couple dots of hot glue to hold it till the the gorilla sets. Also, clear fabric glue is great. The main difference is that the fabric glue doesn’t like paint (especially acrylics) and the gorilla clear doesn’t care what you coat it with.
    Now I have to pickup a 1/16 kit, or rather add to my wishlist and hope that the fam or Santa will gift it to me.

    Looks nice for a new street. But in Belgium they are more round at the top and the rows are shifted. It is best to search for pictures of "Paris-Robaix" it is a cycling race known as "the hell of the north" (Norrd France). The competition is about different cobblestone strips

    Hi Andy,
    the super Trees are Sea foam (Teloxis Aristata), which is not from the ocean, but it is a plant that you can grow. :-)
    You can easy grow it in your garden and have tons of it super cheap. If you dip it in glicerine it will last for ever and still can be worked on.
    Super dio by the way

  • @georgeclements2742

    Enjoyed the video and appreciate all the hints. Just one minor suggestion: I think it would look good to have a gutter alongside the kerbstones. That would give the chance to add a drain cover for another bit of detail. Of course, you may have checked references that suggest a gutter wouldn't be right for the area you are depicting; I'm no expert !

  • @anthonyphilips7171
    @anthonyphilips7171 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Truly amazing realism, but I would like to make two observations.
    1 - A minor point: from my experience of seeing walls in the UK and Europe, the lintel above the gate always tends to be of a different stronger stone material. This might only be in building walls, however, as the lintel needs to take the weight of bricks above it, so for a garden wall, the same material might be acceptable.
    2 - Logically, the hinges on the gate would be on the inside, not the street side. If one considers, the purpose of a gate, it is to prevent unwanted access, so placing the hinges on the outside goes against that objective as any would-be intruder with a screwdriver would easily gain access.
    Nevertheless, this is a very rewarding video for makers of dioramas. Thanks for publishing this.
