The real reason Arena doesn't have a chat, funny part is these comments are tame compared to the astonishly crazy that goes down on MTGO.....true salt of the earth
I love the players that play a weaker deck in the format so they can brag about how well they piloted the deck when they win and have the excuse that their deck is weaker when they lose. It's like in their mind they always win. Unfortunately the scoreboard doesn't care about their moral victories. MTGO needs a sodium concentration scoreboard so they can at least win at something.
Lol, I once corrected a guy who was not only doing illegal plays, but was also playing Ponder in modern. He called me a waste of time, and kicked me LOL
Strange, I always find friendly people on cockatrice, besides the 1 time I got kicked out of a game because I was trying to explain that cryptic doesn't draw a card if the other mode has a target and the target is not valid at resolution
@@cowisiontv6611 yes, the majority of people on cockatrice are friendly, but because it acts like IRL, where there is no system to actually uphold the rules, some people like you said tend to try to do stuff that simply is not legal, and when you call them out for it, they get pissy. Unlike IRL where you can just get a judge to help, those people stay ignorant, and just kick you
There is a lot of luck involved in the game, as well as skill. When I play on Arena, I know my mana ratio is great but always seem to have 2 lands by turn 4 (24 land in a 60 card deck). When I add more land, all I get is land. I also have 'slower' multicolored decks that get wiped by fast single color decks. That's the price you pay for trying out new combo ideas. I'll also admit, I say salty shit out loud when getting burned, removaled, or countered the whole game but have never sent anyone any msgs or anything. No one likes losing. My best decks are decks I have been destroyed by, modified with my own ideas and twists.
Truth is that both are used by the really good players. You should net-deck to know what the metas are, and play them to learn how they are used in order to create reasonable counters when homebrewing, and you should homebrew and learn to spot combos and strong cards so that when you pull up the metas you can understand how to play and win games with them. And even if net-decking, homebrew experience can equal some really good *slight variations* on the pre-set deck lists or help inform what kind of sideboard to run.
When I played on Arena, I couldn't decide if I wanted a better chat system. I didn't think I did ultimately, though I'd have liked some snarky options when you draw that 5th land in a row. I will personally always get salty when I draw shite and the opponent draws gas in multiple games, but I feel like if you just lose a match to someone, you should be able to get up and move on with your life. When I'm playtesting and get mana screwed ~10 games in a row (with endless mulligans to get a hand that was statistically normal) vs a deck that did not need to mulligan past 1 in all those games. It was surreal, it was just not going my way. I think I decided I am not a very lucky person, but I will admit that at another time a run of good openers I had with a deck eventually convinced me to adjust the deck to make that more statistically likely to occur. It worked, and the deck improved. As for drawing all lands, that statistically isn't that unlikely. People seem to think that if something has a 5% chance of happening that they won't see it happen a couple times in a row, or even 3 times, yet in a decent sample size, you'll always have some outliers. Be gracious with your good hands, and take your lumps when you draw bad seems the way to go. If you want more or less of something, adjust your deck accordingly, and you'll have less of these 'screw' hands. Heck, run MDFC if you hate being stuck with all lands, there *are* options if you want them.
My favourite personal one of these was vs a lantern control player when I was on UR Through the breach. They got salty at me for not conceding on the spot when they had lantern and two shredders down (I had 6 cards in hand and plenty more answers to draw/ways to draw at instant speed). Whilst they wasted their timer berating me, and throwing seriously hefty curses at me, I reminded them that time was ticking and encouraged them to play on. They then accused me of timer stalling before proceeding to timer stall me until they lost x)

These chat logs have all the energy of a bunch of 6-year-olds arguing in the school playground at lunchtime, but without the excuse of actually being in kindergarten or under the age of ten.... smh.
Is drawing cards not a repeatable effect?
ah yes MTGO chat , the reason there is no chat on Arena
I'm saying they are lucky, but trying to say it without salt, and often saying about decks of my opps that their deck is sweet.
Those Twitter tribunals are brutal.
if someone wants to see more funny mtgo salt i recommend searching for "ral salt storm". there is a hilarious streamclip from mtggoldfish
Don't draw cards and drive unless you play card games on motorcycles
I used to play only prereleases with my friends since 1996 and after a friend got other friends to play modern, I was aksed to also do so and made some decks for it and eventually brewed my own decks on MTGo... 5 color wizards with Noggle and anathemancer and golgari vampires. By no means tier 1 or 2, lol... but sweet decks that can compete with all decks i have witnessed and what I was the most surprised by in MTGO... was the total morons I encountered in chat... really salty, insulting, rude and using awfull texts... even lying to get ahead... I dont consider myself a pony because I also love competitive play apart from pre release and commander... but still, respect for your opponent I feel is a must... you are playing a game to win but still... its a game... it really through me off in the beginning and answered accordingly but now, when I encounter it, I just reafirm what they say... and moreso, when I encounter a nice player, talking about decks or startegies or other... I can really appreciate that.
But yeah... funny to see how some people just loose it... lol...
I faced a deck full of counter spells before! I got chat banned for 15days :(
i mean, in defense of the searching guy, ive been kinda salty to when ive fetched multiple times and still flooded, and i wasnt even using expensive fetches, i was using stuff like fabled passage and evolving wilds.
Just assuming pp is player points, and not the player saying they have to use the potty. Bold assumption, my friend.
Hey net decking is great for competitive , counters decking is great for getting urself called names
sneaky helmuth reference
Deck thinning is real, yo! Of course not super decisive, but there's a marginal advantage
why else would you use them?
