Limitations are good when using a device where you have to come up with creative thinking in order to get the sound/groove you want. The OP-1 have a few limitations but it's worth every penny I paid for it and some.. Very nice video..

For me, this battery powered mini studio is perfect when travelling, sitting in the sofa or just want to do creative/weird stuff that I don't do when sitting on a normal keyboard. I also like limited things and see it as a challenge to try to get as far as possible / break the boundaries. But as an instrument to get back into music after many years of absence, I'm not sure - it depends a lot on where you are in your musical development and what you want to do.

+wiiza Nope, not possible. It basically emulates an analog tape. The tempo can be changed if playing back a sequence, but as soon as it is recorded it is "analog".

This is a Teenage Engineering OP-1. It is a portable music instrument with several synthesizer/sampler engines, a four-track "digital tape" machine, built-in FM radio as well as a number of performance controls (both physical knobs as well as mic and gravity sensor). The knobs can be removed and instead some accessories can be connected, such as crank or LEGO pins. In my performance I use the LEGO pin to attach a rubber wheel. This makes it easy for me to turn it smoothly using one finger, suitable for the tempo changes I do in this song.

This machine is quite unorthodox but what caught me off guard the most was that simple pitch bend. The sound of it was so massive.

No, the company that makes the OP-1 is Teenage Engineering and they have nothing to do with LEGO. But they provide LEGO-compatible pins to the knobs.
