The mystery behind Ryder's shocking betrayal in GTA San Andreas!
Who Is Ryder?
Ryder is a fictional character in the video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," which is set in the early 1990s in the fictional state of San Andreas. He is one of the main characters and a member of the Grove Street Families gang, which is the gang the game's protagonist, Carl "CJ" Johnson, is a part of.
Ryder is depicted as a close friend of CJ's and is known for his distinctive appearance, including his dreadlocks, bandana, and eccentric personality. He is often seen wearing a green checkered jacket. Ryder is also portrayed as being somewhat quirky and comedic, often making humorous remarks or behaving in a nonchalant manner.
However, as the game's story progresses, Ryder's loyalty to the Grove Street Families and his motivations come into question due to his actions and decisions. This leads to the element of betrayal that players experience during the game's storyline, which makes his character and role in the plot quite significant.
Asking why Ryder's betrayal doesn't make sense suggests an exploration of the narrative and character development in the game, which can be an interesting topic for analysis and discussion among players and fans. - เกม

He was addicted to pcp. Officer tenpenny used that to his advantage.
@@hofnarrtheclown oh yeah my bad ur right? Lol wtf
@@hofnarrtheclown *nah*
What was your argument? @@reggiemiller1784
@@hofnarrtheclown thanks for speaking for me. But yeah it's just not that deep. Ryder and big smoke were busters. Plain and simple.
Ryder was never supposed to be a bad guy every mission you do with Ryder you help grove but Smokes missions are for Smoke and C.R.A.S.H. the voice actor of Ryder left the rockstar community but Rockstar had no idea where to put Ryder so they made him a traitor that's why there are only 2 dialogues of Ryder when he dies
So then why was Ryder’s death so hastily added into the game and why did they use dialogue from Ryder’s previous scenes rather than just have the VA do it? Sum ain’t adding up…even as a kid I knew Ryder’s death didn’t feel right. He wasn’t supposed to be a traitor nor die in that mission that’s why his ending is so abrupt and anti climactic and his dialogue was recycled…
@@hofnarrtheclown he sounds weird when you says “you can’t stop me” it’s like chopped and screwed kinda and there’s no build up to it unlike with Big Smoke and Tenpenny and the other villains
@@hofnarrtheclown yes there is if they wrote all the lines he did record for another story line and then scrapped that story line and made Ryder be a traitor when he was gone and just didn’t want to pay him again to come in and record more lines…
@@hofnarrtheclown no it doesn’t…honey reread my comment again…he recorded the lines and met his contractual obligations and then afterwards the developers decided to change the story but didn’t want to pay him again so they just had to write him out entirely. Duh. Ryder was too important a character to be killed so early on in the game and he barely had any lines of dialogue leading up to his death to be an important character not to mention in scenes he’s in with Smoke Tenpenny and the Ballas, CJ doesn’t even mention he’s there, he mentions everyone except Ryder
@@hofnarrtheclown we can agreed to disagree and let it be
They need a San Andreas stories or some shyt 😂 I know I ain't the only one that got mad when Ryder died
Imagine Ryder meeting The Truth, they would turn the van into smoke like Fast Times at Ridgemont High
I thought Ryder smokes PCP, not Weed.
The truth is Ryder was never meant to be a traitor AT THE START. But he was always meant to be a traitor eventually. The way Rockstar had initially written him was that his fate was left unknown after CJ would have found out about Smoke's betrayal in the Green Sabre mission and Ryder wouldn't have appeared anymore until the mission Photo Opportunity where CJ would have saw that Ryder had joined Big smoke and the Ballas' drug traffic, alongside others Grove Street members. Originally Photo Opportunity was completely different and required CJ to steal a police's helicopter (that's why cj and cesar scream during the mission, cause they were supposed to talk loudly to be able to hear each other through the helicopter's noise) and then they would go to a gas station guarded by Ballas, Rifas and traitors Grove Street members and among them CJ would have seen Ryder, knowing that instead of looking for him or Sweet after the events of the green sabre mission, he had decided to join Smoke and the Ballas instead. However, Rockstar changed all this because they probably felt they had written Ryder too poorly, by making him betray CJ and Sweet so suddenly and so they added him in the Green Sabre mission's cutscene at the last minute and also in the introduction, to imply that Ryder was always on Smoke's side and was betraying CJ and Sweet the whole time too. They also changed photo opportunity because of the fact CJ was not supposed to know how to fly a helicopter until Toreno's missions.
Cap
In the GTA SA audio files there is Ryder dialog of laughing at CJ if he falls off the bike among other dialog that fit if other situations occurred, so Rockstar 100% intended to have Ryder in that mission in the Big Smoke 1st mission.
Ryder was an old friend of Cj and Sweet. Of course he would be in their mother funeral.
I think ryder's betrayal was last minute because they needed another antagonist
They had enough antagonists between Tenpenny, Pulaski and Big Smoke... that's enough dudes to hate.
If Ryder never betrayed CJ, he would probably play a massive role in Robbing at Caligula's
He’d most likely distract the Swat Teams chasing us.
Everyone thinks the voice actor left Rockstar meanwhile that was never the case. R* just tossed Ryder’s character. MC EIHT, voice actor of Ryder had already stated this. Ryder is the only GTA character I felt attached to, loved everything about him. From looks to voice. I keep him alive by using him in GTA Online, hoping GTA 6 has good character creation so I can make him again. Wasted character and talents.
Bruh. Disagree but respect your opinion.
@@theveryproudmoroccan2834 Well, that’s you.
It makes more sense that Ryder was very gang oriented. Very anti Ballas. That seeing Big Smoke side with the Ballas could’ve prevent the whole crack epidemic in Los santos from ever happening. And with a pcp addition makes him stand out as an addict. But not a sus rat. Families oriented, but still. He armed the families with shotty weapons. But still. Capable in rivaling against the Ballas in arms combat.
Ryder was at the cemetery to show support. Smoke may have told him to be there.
Somebody made a mod that modifies the story in which Ryder stays with GSF.
He should have died in the Green Sabre mission as a homie, not a traitor
Honestly bro he was my favorite
Damn, i never felt that way bout Ryder. I was on Big Smoke from jump. Ever since i saw him eating all that damn food n not shooting back after the drive thru scene. Ryder was jus always high 😂
The story is that he didnot want to betray gsf but smoke pushed him and threatened him if he didnot work wiht somke
And the reason he betrays gsf coz his VA left coz of low payment
And rockstar killed his character to return the favor
This is false
Yeah, this is false. 100%
@@LScentral how is that false dude check all other people theroy about this
@DiegoMendez420 he pointed out a message in the video that proves this is false
For the AK that Ryder got in Reuniting the Families,I always assumed he and Smoke drove off to Emmet to get the rifle and then returned, rather than Emmet coming to the meet with the rifle. Ryder going to grab a rifle and bringing it to CJ actually made him seem even more loyal to the Families,so I definitely think he was supposed to be a good guy,and him betraying the Families was added later in the game's development.
If you watch the introduction the green saber also comes from willow field which is where emmet is from.
It had no reason to come from willowfield since the KTB involved was from Glen Park.
Nothing is in willowfield other than emmet.
@@LScentral I think Rollin Heights Ballas have a turf in Willowfield,so maybe they were involved too.
Them getting it from Emmett is suspicious to me because they already got new and better weapons when they robbed that old guy
@@quequekhari Yea but that was for the GSF gang members themselves, and not really for the use of Ryder, CJ and the others.
@@quequekhariMaybe Emmet id actually LB
Big bear sounds like Tyler the creator
Facts.. but I believe its big boi the radio show host
@@obadiahpeoples1834yes it's big boi from the radio host
Ryder is exactly his name based of a Rider a person that going to ride and die for whoever he wants to
How about 😂 he rides off into the sunset when you need him the most?
😂😂 yall comments
Ryder was blackmailed and witnesses all and big smoke threatened to kill him if he spills the beans
Smoke threatened ryder if he tells or snitches smoke. Ryder is dead. I think that was the theory that rockstar never revealed and they said they had to rewritten his role differently because the actor for ryder have left during recording due to some serious conflicts and drama that the actor for ryder could not handle and decides to quit
Right. I feel like Rockstar made Ryder look bad to give it a plot twist .. cj was you, sweet was locked up and smoke was the bad guy so they needed Ryder to fit in some way without just killing him off by smoke or tenpenny
Good video. But the thing about the introduction, is that it is made after the game was out. So I'm pretty convinced that Ryder being a traitor was because Rockstar had no idea what to do with his character. But yeah, I do agree with the majority that he should have died in the shootout while staying loyal, or he should have become a deuteragonist or a tritagonist for the rest of the game.
I am surprised you didn't mention the dialog in Photo Opportunity. When CJ makes comments about Ryder showing up he is literally screaming. An older version of the mission had CJ and Caesar in a helicopter. This is why they are screaming at each other. This game has a lot of sloppy moments in it. That being my point. This game can be all over the place sometimes.
Big Smoke didn’t care if Ryder die or not because he knew how how he ride and die basically a crash dummy
When big smoke at Ryder take off during "reuniting the families" the time CJ spends inside, would give them more than enough time to stop by Emmet's and get heated
I don’t believe it
The better ending of ryder could've been killed in green sabre or arrested
Bro got all these kids in here arguin now over a video game lmaooo
I love it 💀
I think Ryder could have been left being killed in a mission actually helping CJ kill other Ballas.. after the Green Sabre mission leaving loyal left 2 speculate.. but kinda showing u where his ❤️ was really at..
BDub sounds like the game
That is the game
"man! my bussin was tight!" 😂
Facts I always thought it made no sense.
imagine the rest of story missions ryder helps you or is with you and you work together with him.
They should've killed him off in green sabre mission durning the shootout
@@hofnarrtheclown not really it would've been a better end for the character instead of turning him into a villain he would've died a hero
@@hofnarrtheclown they would've been happy either way cuz Ryder would've been dead either way
I have always thought that it made no sense that Ryder betrayed CJ. I even have the theory that Ryder actually tried to help CJ.
-Him being rude to CJ, asking when was he going to return to LC, mocking his abilities as a gunman/driver, etc, was his attemp to make CJ feel like he didn't belong there anymore. He knew that Sweet wouldn't leave LS, but CJ already did and it was worth trying to save at least one of them both.
-In the mission Drive Thru, they start talking about the day Beverly died, and Ryder says "They was going for Sweet", but Smoke immediately says "you don't know that". For me, Ryder was trying to warn them, but Big Smoke knew that it was for the best to keep them calm instead of paranoic.
-The Introduction (the SA stories-ish) showed us that Ryder had his doubts about betraying GSF. He didn't explicitly said "I'm in", he just went with it. Maybe he didn't know how many things were already in motion. So, when Beverly died, Ryder knew how dangerous BS was, and telling the truth to Sweet/CJ would probably get him killed.
Emmet didnt have to be there for him to gave gotten the K from him. Could of been hours or days before
He literally got it there
Ryder and Smoke were always wearing Grove ST colours..
My theory - Big Smoke was threatened by the Ballas, Frank and Eddie to join them, he even said he had no choice
Ryder - Threatened by C.R.A.S.H aswell, Ryder always helped GSF
But… in the beginning of the game, ballas only shot at CJ and followed Sweet, they didn’t shoot at Ryder or Smoke. He’s also unreasonably negative to CJ with one of his first lines being “you’re just a liability CJ.” When CJ came to visit for the first time, he was jumpy, forgot that he was his homie. Even in Green Sabre, CJ took Smoke’s betrayal pretty hard because he was the nicest and smoothest but probably wasn’t surprised at Ryder, he’s the most condescending and reckless, not as smart as Smoke. I honestly think Ryder was forced into betraying CJ and Rockstar probably had a longer plot for him but the voice actor quit so…
I feel like that liability line was because he was still making fun of CJ for leaving the hood. If you think about it it's a buncha crash dummies that live only for the hood so CJ leaving probably really hurt him
@@LOE_Life_G yeah I see this too. It’s just that I feel like there’s a couple of clues in conversation, especially in the Drive Thru mission. When CJ’s mom was shot, Ryder wasn’t even there but he has privileged information that only a balla insider would know. How’d he know they were going for Sweet and they were in the Green Sabré?
@@iambloopy understandable but the green sabre can be explained as he could've seen it, if you think about it they live in a cul-de-sac so they had 2 do a full circle and either hit the alley between Ryder House and cj house or either down the street they used 2 get there, and wit the sweet thing jus plain simple, (not insulting your intelligence or anything) he's the big dog, head honcho. Yea they could've rode down there and shot anybody from the grove but if uk where the leader is or assume u Kno, u jus go and slide. It's just unfortunate that they hit the actual house vs the lil traphouse or w.e. crib that is you go to for sweet missons
@@LOE_Life_G I hear your perspective but I still have doubts. There’s still a lot of clues in conversation especially when the boys are together.
@@iambloopy I hear ya and I ain't trippin I lik hearing perspectives that don't align with mine as long as we can keep it cordial
aye Los, at da very end of da mission Robbin Uncle Sam, when Ryder says Fa life CJ fa life! you can see CJ & Ryder AIR! dappin & embracing eachother 😂 I noticed it today & said to myself "was dat jus rock star bein lazy asf?" 😂🤣
Let's not forget that CJ betrayed the Families 1st by running to Liberty City.
I feel like if Ryder never betray us, the missions afterwards with have been different, and we get more Ryder missions, and Ryders help for some
Ryder was just helping the SBF fr he stopped caring about the GSF while ago
I love your vids
I’d imagine Ryder backing us up with an Ak47 in the Firetruck chase in End Of The Line with some GSF Boys driving his truck. (If he didn’t betray)
What if Ryder was supposed to help cj and sweet kill big smoke and frank tenpenny and they changed it paste Ryder into cutscenes that he doesn't belong it and they made us think that Ryder betrayed Grove Street and Rockstar doesn't have Good relationship with their voice actor and the voice actor had dispute with Rockstar game so they reuse some of Ryder dialogue for different mission.
well if you take over a ton of areas and the spot where the motel is one of them Grove Street is well represented but that area isn't just ballers that is one reason that area is a pain in the rear to take over but do able if done right but think it was not meant for us to know Ryder was in on Big Smoke's plan till the right time but I can see where your coming from with this theory
Thanks I feel old 0:01
Basically Ryder wanted LB to be like brothers such as sweet and cj
I always thought ryda was out of place as the bad guy
He was always meant to be one look at the other videos I did
The real question is: why Sweet refused trading with Tempenny?
Carl should kill Sweet since from begining and everything would be fine.
i think ryder might stayed with cesae, my sis kendl and me in san fierro
yeah.
Ryder as a character didn't make sense in the cut scene the one in this video CJ said he was selling drugs since the age of 10 i thought Grove st were against drug dealing not to mention hes a dust head which is also against Grove st
By drugs they probably just meant weed
If you play enough GTA games, then you already know whoever is an asshole to the main character in anyway will betray the main character. It's been like that in all of the narrative GTAs
Sweet didnt betray CJ tho
@therandomgamer18 true but he's family
@@hofnarrtheclown nah if it's family they usually don't betray even if being an asshole. See Michael's family in GTA V
@hofnarrtheclown in the end you have the option to betray Michael with Franklin and Trevor so it still stands
@@quequekharilol they were literally crossing Michael out though. They just didn't kill him 😅
MC Eiht backed out or got cut loose and they got the money's worth like greedy ass Rockstar is known to do
He didn't backout lol and Rockstar wasn't that bad then they are a company lol everyone signed the contact without any force making them. if anything, the VA's got greedy.
@@LScentral Gta V is older than my 4th grade daughter they remastered all the 3d gtas and just now put red dead on switch not to mention how long they been making weaklings pay for vc fucc Rockstar I be like daaaamn homie in high school u was the maaaan homie tf happened to you
Ryder wasn't even short
that’s what everyone in the game claims but I think he’s the same height as the other npcs
Keep up muthafucka!!
Weres rollin Heights ballas
There is that comment that sweet said during ceaser’s intro (so I can date one of your mindless friends) last I had checks Ryder and sweet were friends.
Maybe eight would show up high..or he was hard to work with and wouldnt listen...maybe he tried fighting someone in the studio... maybe he would try lighting up while recording.. maybe he kept asking for more pay...the reply eight said makes it seem like he was fired.. so they fired him for a reason
Ryder’s actor theory is 100% false.
Why else would he be in one of the Radio Stations for GTA 5?
It’s just his music he doesn’t talk on the radio
Ryders probably one of smokes lieutenants
i wourd do it like so insted of Killing him in the End of the line Smoke fire a Gun at as but Ryder schild you he dies but last words wourd be Fam ly fo live
