The Quali Lap that Placed Me Behind Jarno Opmeer! - iRacing F1 @ Imola,

- This is easily my biggest accomplishment in my 1.5 year long sim racing journey. In the iRacing Fixed Grand Prix, I placed 2nd in quali behind the one and only Jarno Opmeer, F1 eSports World Champion. By the end of the race, I finished P4, only 20 seconds behind Opmeer. Here's my absurd quali lap that secured me P2!
The sheer confidence around the lap! Under braking, turning in… everywhere. Honestly, this look like it could well be an actual F1 driver driving that thing

Esports sim racing is harder than irl, although because of different reasons
You don't see irl racing drivers getting top 1's on iracing, you don't see iracing drivers getting top 1's irl usually the iracing drivers play it safer so they finish rather higher irl while the irl driver finishes lower because the physics is harder and it requires more precision

Most irl drivers struggle on the sim, because they lack most of the information they get from the car
Driving the actual race car, you feel what the car is doing, not only through the steering wheel with you hands, but with your whole body. You obviously don’t have that in the sim. Also, the physics are not necessarily harder, they’re different. Add to that that the cars in the sim will never be 1:1 to the real thing, and you have a driver that knows how to drive the car, but has no idea what the car is doing and it behaves a bit differently to that they’re used to
And it definelty doesn’t need more precision, if it would be the case we would have esports guys driving irl F1 cars now
It needs a bit of a different set of skills
It works like this both ways: certain sensations are missing, certain sensations are new, some are a bit different to what you’re used to

The one circuit thats actually more realistic in the f1 games
More realistic in look only! IRacing’s Imola circuit is laser scanned so it’s the most realistic you can get for the track surface. Unless I missed the F1 games adding laser scanning haha

I can’t speak to the game mechanics since I don’t play the F1 games, but for the actual F1 car, the iRacing recreation is the most realistic out there since they worked directly with Mercedes F1 to create it. Handles as close to a real life F1 car as you can get!

I’m self taught with sim racing and I’m sure you can get to this point too! Just takes lots of practice and dedication. I’m actually awful at F1 2021, so sometimes it just takes finding the right sim for you!
@@ImTheFlyingPan thanks for the message, I'm still playing with a controller. I'm trying different set ups for that track, but I'm still not making those Apex's. I've also started working with project cars 2. My local walmart has a wheel, it's Ferrari branded one, but gotta start somewhere lol

Definitely not, since they worked directly with Mercedes F1 to make it the most realistic W12 ever recreated!

Because the iRacing Mercedes W12 is the most realistic rendition of an F1 car in a sim! I like more “hardcore” sim games compared to more casual ones

Everything in my lap followed track limits in iRacing.
1:06 is that a track limit I see ?
Nope! Was an officially counted quali lap. Full left tire did not pass the red and white kerbing, and did not fully pass the white line after the kerbing.

Nope, I didn’t! This counted as an official quali lap that placed me P2. It’s only an off track of your left tires go past the red and white kerbing.
If you mean the actual chicane part though, you can be pretty aggressive with it. But it wasn’t an off track!

i bought iracing for f1 and gt3 style races when i came to the dissapoinment that you need to level your SA and shit up. and i don't like the 2 races you can do so i refunded it
There’s more than 2 races available for F1 and GT3 especially! The SR system and IR system does an amazing job of filtering out dirty drivers, so I personally love it. Doesn’t take long at all to get, and I haven’t seen a single dirty driver since the first month I started. If you are looking for a more casual experience though, it might not be a good fit!

I love motor sports. You can be quick, or there could be another driver who is slightly quicker in the thinnest of margins, and that’s what separates the legend from a great driver. To me that’s mind numbing.
