Always admired Dr Jaishankar for being a very articulate and analytical diplomat. Have listened to him on various other occasions and he remains humble and forthright as ever. I look forward to reading his book "The India Way" though it was written before the recent Indo-China friction at the borders. Dr Jaishankar is perhaps the only technocrat PM Modi chose to have in his 2nd term, which shows his focus on India's foreign affairs, and the trust he has in Dr Jaishankar as a competent EAM, having been India's Foreign Secretary during PM Modi's 1st term. Wish we had more such technocrats in other key ministries like Finance, Defence, and Commerce as well. It's these ministries which will play a key role in the coming years, in a post-Covid world order, which may well transform the current alliances and rules of engagement perhaps dictated by a newly anointed Superpower in our neighborhood. For decades India was extremely diffident in its wavering foreign policies, but with Dr Jaishankar as EAM, it has been more proactive and realistic than idealistic (which India has been since 1947). Hope Dr J serves India well for many years to come.

09:40 Dr Balakrishnan of Singapore has a fine perspective on Asian geopolitics and cognates well with the received wisdom of Dr. Jaishankar of India that Asia, that is, the continent east of Indus and north to Japan, was the roaring heartbeat of humanity for most of history.
If the idea of the open association between free people has worked so well for Europeans and Americans for the past two centuries, there is no reason why the open association between the free people of Asia should not work in this case. But, the association has to be between "free" people; like the diaspora Chinese who have become so successful in much of South-East Asia; not the state-controlled types, sadly, of Mainland China. Indians are a free people and are best placed to do productive business with other free people.

Willing to take strategic choices, not to be strategically complicit.
The INDIA Brand - Democratic credentials, Techie India (Tech-Friendly people)- professionals, comfort level of other countries with India.
China Question- Two Civilizational States, Billion plus population solution to be found in diplomacy.
P.S: It was a good decision of Modi to have Dr. Jaishanker's as EAM, we will see the effects of this in the future and i think so far we have seen the communication and footprints expanding while he has been in office.

A world where china and india on the same boat? It will be interesting we could see sunami.
If pakistan and india put past on back burner, how things will evolve?
Truely uncertain world, i am more interested in seeing brotherhood and harmony with our neighbours, I think it's time west should not be defining foreign policy of world.
    Lets wait and watch

Just sharing my thought on current geopolitical conflict. The reason why India and western countries gang up to fight against China is an example of a classic Thucydides trap, here is the origin of clashes............number 1- India is economically in shambles [huge number of Indian people are homeless, beggars, jobless, ....... number 2- largest failed demonocracy; fighting, shouting, cheating for the power in the parliament.......Number 3- using power India made silenced the Kashmiris and northeastern people, interfering Tibet, Bhutan, and Nepal [ Made these countries poorer strategically to control them easily] number 3- Socially India is the worst countries in term of rape case , minor raping, cheating tourists, extremely unsafe place in the world. By the way, the clash between India and china is the legacy of the British colonialism, India thinks, India is right which is NOT. If you read the history and pre colonialism, the Chinese civilization, in their perspective they are doing the right thing. However, the recent turmoil within India itself such as uprising of the farmers and Indian variant covid where India govt failed to contain and hence government used the aged old British tactics to suppress the public uprising by diverting the national issues towards the international such as border issues to strengthen the Indian nationalism. India gangs up with the western democratic countries , they lied the world using fake news. AP [ Associate Press] controlled by western countries spread fake news about China. " Truth will always win in the long run" Remember this saying, China will surely come out to be the winner in the long run, just trust me. Whatever you say now will not be able to suppress china, no matter western media demonized China. At the end China will be the Super Power, do not be jealous of China , instead cooperate with China, it will be good for India and the world. Enough is enough with America, they have been super power for the last only 200 years but they destroyed Africa, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Vietnam, formed Taliban to fight against the erstwhile USSR in Afghanistan, aided Pakistan to fight against India so many more. When you look closely, their modus operandi is whenever any country is becoming prosperous or supper power assume to be threatening their world hegemony, they will interfere and try to pull down by hook or by crook. They terrorize the world in disguise, fucking they are the worst people in the entire planet. You fool Indian obey them, you can not differentiate good and bad [ because you are already hypnotized by their Media, Hollywood, $ hegemony and their ENGLISH]. Believe me, these western countries especially America will be with you as long as you are seen as inferior to them but once you become powerful or assumed to be rising power in their eyes just see their true nature, they will come and try to destroy you. Like they are doing to China now but China will not let it happen. China will fight back till every drops of their 1.4 billion peoples blood get exhausted. Remember China will not Rule the World but lead the world to make a better world, China will construct and construct despite America destroyed and destroy

The message of the book is not well reflected in this talk! The message: these times demand leadership; choices have to be made. But, the takeaway from this talk is mere management and optimization of every single ‘opportunity’ for India! Is India stepping up? Has India made its decision to lead, in the Indo-pacific? Or is it positioning itself as the new workshop of the world-what China used to be? China has declared itself as the new, inevitable hegemon of the world!
Plus: Iran will become Iran again-sooner than expected. The Islamic Republic period should be viewed as an anomaly!

I do hope that a modern, democratic (in the true sense), secular, republican Iran will emerge soon and come to be among the leading nations in the region and the wider world once again. There are, like Jaishankar attributes, a lot of opportunities in mutual interactions between the two peoples which are being left unexploited.

It's really hard reality in India. People need to have a job to read a book. I m concerning to myself i want to read many books but I don't have money. How m i suppose to learn and get the potentials needed for a job as an example without books. The sad reality of india. Education costlier than food.

Sorry to say, that this ended on such a let down! Dr. Jaishankar, seems to be is still traumatized by America ‘judging’ others in the past, rather than awake-at all- to the danger lurking afoot! What does China have to say and do to wake people up! What a tragedy!

Now the Brahmins have left no room for doubt, for they have
propounded a most mischievous dogma, which the Brahmins have spread
among the masses, is the dogma of the infallibility of the Vedas. If the
Hindu intellect has ceased to grow and if the Hindu civilization and
culture has become a stagnant and stinking pool, this dogma must
be destroyed root and branch if India is to progress. The Vedas are a
worthless set of books. There is no reason either to call them sacred or
infallible. The Brahmins have invested it with sanctity and infallibility
only because by a later interpolation of what is called the Purusha -
Sukta, the Vedas have made them the lords of the Earth. Nobody has had the courage to ask why these worthless books which contain nothing
but invocation to tribal Gods to destroy the Enemies, loot their property
and give it to their followers (have been made sacred and infallible). But
the time has come when the Hindu mind must be freed from the hold*
which the silly ideas propagated by the Brahmins, have on them. Without
this liberation India has no future. I have undertaken this task knowing
full well what risk* it involves. I am not afraid of the consequences. I
shall be happy if I succeed in stirring the masses
