Yes, Allen, I think this mod is a great thing for nugget hunters. I don't know how much benefit there is on larger targets, but for the small stuff, we're missing a lot of targets if we get that sweep speed too fast. This mod alleviates that problem. Jim
I'm not sure why you turned the 'Frequency' knob to the center. I thought that adjustment was only if there are other metal detectors nearby interfering with yours? Just curious. Cheers!
Good question, Dusty. You can sometimes eliminate EMI, from a particular source, by adjusting the frequency. Generally, I set the Freq. at center, and if encountering EMI I adjust up and down to try to eliminate it. I've noticed, in testing, that there may be a slight edge in sensitivity by running the Freq, as high as possible. Jim
I don't know. The factory did adopt the other Reg Sniff mod, at least on the new Special Edition model, and probably all of the SL's made after 2015. That mod removed a couple of diodes (D20 & 21), and capacitor C56, and installed a jumper across two of the three legs of the location where D21 was located. One of Whites retired engineers told me that removing C56 would increase performance, but he wasn't sure about the diodes. But, since Whites did that change I assume it benefited the performance. I'm going to do that change, too, but haven't gotten around to it, yet. Jim
@@jimnelson7740 I'm tempted to get the SL special edition maybe put an upgraded battery but just not sure about it's abilities in the West Australian dirt I'm running the ATX and can't go above 4 on the sensitivity without the machine going crazy.. for an extra $100 I can buy a new 4500 but who knows how much better that would be
@@fs-rj2jq LOL....I wondered about that price difference. That DOES make a difference, or would to me....Ha! I really enjoy using my SL here. I think, with the mods, it's really under-rated. I'm thinking of offering to do the mods here. Nobody is currently doing them. Both guys that were doing them quit. Everything that Whites builds have great ergonomics. I don't care how much gold a detector finds, if it's not a pleasure to operate. Having to use an external battery, or a sling to carry the weight, or both, is a deal killer for me. Jim
That's not true. Running in low will make the machine quieter, but some gold gives a low tone. Run in low, and you may miss some large nuggets. I run in ALL everywhere I can, but some areas are too noisy to allow that, so I run in low.in those areas. Jim
Very good comparison video. It's plain to see the difference. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Thank you for posting this. It seems to have made a huge difference in sweep speed, when my warranty is up I might have to try this one.

Interesting to learn new tricks......

Jim Nelson -not sure if my question is that good, but your answer is awesome! Take care, Brother!
LOL...I see someone gave me a thumbs down. Some harsh critics out there...Ha!
Probably somebody from whites
I wonder why they didn't do that at the factory

@@fs-rj2jq I wish I could advise you on that, but have no experience in your country. From what I've read, for the extra $100 I'd get the 4500.

I missed a 0 there but still the SL is so light and you don't have to strap on no external battery or speaker..its all very appealing 👍

the button should be in low not all ..... for gold
