I love and admire everything you and your brother do, dear grandma is such a sweet women. The kitchen reminds me of my childhood in Romanian village where i grew, was not made in same way but still was about wood stove and making food on wood fire,delicious food . Everytime i see your videos i wish to come and visit you and your lush garden and lands, even thought about staying in Sri Lanka for a longer period of time. Maybe someday i will be able to come with my son, he is 2 and half years and he absolutely adores you Nadee, he also likes to "make food" , a a daily thing that he always plays and saays he is making food.

I just spent 1 hour reading your story on your site. What a Beautiful story. I would love to know what happened to your parents & why you live with grandma? When did your grandfather pass, or is he still alive? Does grandma miss him? What did he and your parents do for living? I once dated a half Sri Lanka and Dutch guy. Him and his family were a very close family, still living and so close to each other as adults, so it’s very true what you say about Sri Lankans, family is very important. Interesting too the European rule and colonisation that made your country what it is today. I would love to go there one day and visit your village. You are so respectful in honouring the old traditional ways, traditional cooking methods. I love it, please don’t change to be westernised. It’s too stressful. I loved how you learnt to cook from the pure love your grandmother gave you & your brother growing up. What a Beautiful way to remember your childhood. I too learnt to cook from watching my mum and her also teaching all of us kids too. We miss her dearly. Thank you for sharing your story. Those wild edibles brother picked from along the rice field are called kangkong in the Philippines. Also known as water spinach, water morning glory for its white flowers. Delicious sautéed with soy sauce garlic and a splash of coconut vinegar, or blanched then eaten as salad with vinegar dressing seasoned with long fermented fish called ginamos . Favored as greens in a soup called sinigang , beef or pork bone soup . Only the cook limits its uses.
here in Sri Lanka we too call those Kangkung and love eating the way you said sauteed with garlic, tomatoes chili flakes and the rest of the ingredients depend on personal taste 🙂 and there are couple of other ways as well but this way is way more preferred specially as a side dish for fried rice 😋
Its so relaxing and mind refreshing to watch your videos...the water spinach your brother brought from the fields is known as "Kolmou hak" in Assam(India)...it is so tasty to eat...we simply cook these hak(leaves)with potatoes and onions..with little bit extra oil than usual...and it is served hot.... Lots of love from Assam.

I just spent 1 hour reading your story on your site. What a Beautiful story. I would love to know what happened to your parents & why you live with grandma? When did your grandfather pass, or is he still alive? Does grandma miss him? What did he and your parents do for living? I once dated a half Sri Lanka and Dutch guy. Him and his family were a very close family, still living and so close to each other as adults, so it’s very true what you say about Sri Lankans, family is very important. Interesting too the European rule and colonisation that made your country what it is today. I would love to go there one day and visit your village. You are so respectful in honouring the old traditional ways, traditional cooking methods. I love it, please don’t change to be westernised. It’s too stressful. I loved how you learnt to cook from the pure love your grandmother gave you & your brother growing up. What a Beautiful way to remember your childhood. I too learnt to cook from watching my mum and her also teaching all of us kids too. We miss her dearly. Thank you for sharing your story. Those wild edibles brother picked from along the rice field are called kangkong in the Philippines. Also known as water spinach, water morning glory for its white flowers. Delicious sautéed with soy sauce garlic and a splash of coconut vinegar, or blanched then eaten as salad with vinegar dressing seasoned with long fermented fish called ginamos . Favored as greens in a soup called sinigang , beef or pork bone soup . Only the cook limits its uses.
here in Sri Lanka we too call those Kangkung and love eating the way you said sauteed with garlic, tomatoes chili flakes and the rest of the ingredients depend on personal taste 🙂 and there are couple of other ways as well but this way is way more preferred specially as a side dish for fried rice 😋

Its so relaxing and mind refreshing to watch your videos...the water spinach your brother brought from the fields is known as "Kolmou hak" in Assam(India)...it is so tasty to eat...we simply cook these hak(leaves)with potatoes and onions..with little bit extra oil than usual...and it is served hot....
