    All the surgical specialities which you mentioned are almost impossible to get by International Medical Graduates (IMGs). We as an IMG only get matched into Internal medicine, family medicine, paediatric, pathology and some other less competitive specialities..

    • @AmberSuhail
      @AmberSuhail ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I would say it's not impossible to get those super specialities but no doubt it's very hard to get those as an IMG. Mostly American graduates are preferred for surgical specialities as compare to IMGs.

      One of my seniors matched, Asad Lak he completed his mbbs from King Edward and Is a pgy 2 in Neuro surgery. He is resident in Iowa hops and clinic you can look up to him, so it is possible. But you have to work as a researcher for multiple years if you wanna match into surgical speciality.

      @@BiologyWK What about opthalmologists how hard is it for IMGs to be an eye doctor in USA. Is it highly competitive?

    Are you talking about a community Hospitalist or an Academic Hospitalist??
    I think this $200k to $300k range which you are telling is for community Hospitalists but if you are working as an academic Hospitalist then your starting avg salary would be around $180k to $220k max.. I myself worked as an academic Hospitalist for 2 years in east coast before pursuing for fellowship so i am pretty sure about the salary range here

    • @AmberSuhail
      @AmberSuhail ปีที่แล้ว +5

      For Academic positions: $170K to $250K
      For clinical positions: $200K to $300K

      Hey. Can you enlighten us about the tax deductions as well? A ball-park estimate?

  • @KhurramKhan-fn1hd
    @KhurramKhan-fn1hd ปีที่แล้ว +11

    She forgot to mention about the big tax deductions from her salary. This $200K to $300K salary is before tax.
    Applicable tax would be 35% to 40% depending upon the location where you live and work in the US.

      For people who don't know about the tax structure in America, here is a rough idea of total tax deductions:
      1. Federal Income Tax: The federal tax rates are progressive which means the more you earn the more tax you will pay, ranging from 10% to 37%.
      2. State Income Tax: 5%
      3. City income Tax: If you are living in a big city like NYC, Boston, LA etc you are subject to the city's income tax rate of 1% to 3%
      4. Social Security and Medicare Taxes: Social Security tax is 6.2% of your income up to a certain limit, and Medicare tax is 1.45% of your total income.
      Taking these calculations into account, the estimated total tax deductions would be 35% to 40% per year of your total income.

    • @HammadRahmanMD
      @HammadRahmanMD ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Agreed. A significant portion of your salary goes into tax and other deductions in USA. There is a simple rule of thumb.. "THE MORE YOU EARN, THE MORE TAX YOU PAY"

    • @DoctorSaba-cn9oh
      @DoctorSaba-cn9oh ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly!!! However I would like to mention that there are some other factors like your filing status, deductions, and credits but after combining all these taxes like federal, state, city, medicare and social security etc the rough estimate is around 34-35% plus if you have 401(k) plan then you also have to pay some extra charges for that too..

    • @AmberSuhail
      @AmberSuhail ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for explaining about the tax deductions. You are right. My sister is an internist in Maryland and her tax deductions are around 37% including everything.
