  • Come along as we throw ourselves into the world of furniture-free living for a second time!
    We’re Ang and Sporty, longtime minimalists since 2008. “Why have you traded your bed for camping mattresses again?” you ask. We’ll tell you about the unexpected health benefits of sleeping on the floor, from better posture to cooler nights.
    Traditionally humans have trained our bodies to just age, rather than focusing on aging strong. We’re on a mission to find ways to do the latter.
    Watch the video to find out how this lifestyle keeps us fit, flexible, and ready to tackle whatever life throws our way.

    Nearing eighty here. Stumbled upon your video. Gave it a try for a nap and was was suprised that I slept well. Brought me back to childhood days of tent camping. Will try it out again tonight. Wonder if it will long term help with balance.

      Wow! This is incredible! Well done for trying it out. We also loved the idea of "camping" at home. It will definitely help with balance. Each time you get up off the floor, you fire and strengthen different muscles. You've just inspired another video. We'll post one about improving balance tips soon!

      Thank you for watching! Very much agree that modern life is too comfortable and that we must build in some inconveniences. We talk about that very thing in this video: th-cam.com/video/za_dS5f6v80/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YlebA9l-1G0RLyrb You might find it interesting 🤩

    Yes, many people in the blue zones sleep and eat on the floor to stay flexible and strong. It's fascinating.

      We were first fascinated by the Blue Zones, purely because they were regions in the world in which people lived to be the oldest and healthiest. The more you read about it the more fascinating it is. There are so many common aspects to why they flourish. I feel another video coming on!

    It's wonderful to meet like-minded individuals! I also embrace a furniture-free lifestyle, owning only two chairs for guests. I sleep on the floor, engage in callisthenics, running, cycling, and prefer walking in barefoot shoes. The health advantages are evident: sitting on the floor enhances flexibility, and a nutritious diet contributes to a robust, healthy, and prolonged life, as much as one's DNA allows. I'm eagerly anticipating your next video!

      Thank you for your lovely comment! We are amazed at the amount of people who are either already doing this or are interested in it. I am also a big barefoot shoes fan. Sadly, Vibrams are no longer being imported into our country so I will have to look for an alternative soon. Some viewers have asked about how we exercise and what we eat, so those videos will be next 🤩

    I used to live like this in Japan and it was great! I moved back to the States and slipped back into the western lifestyle. Not sure how I feel about that, but getting up and down off the floor without moaning and groaning is definitely a good thing.

    • @MostlyMindful
      @MostlyMindful  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yup, we're all for not groaning and moaning like a couple of old fogies whenever we get up or sit down. Ha ha. We also went from furniture-free back to furniture for a while, and now that we're back to no furniture again we're SO much happier! 😁

      @MostlyMindful  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello over there in Israel! Welcome 😉 Yes, we were also surprised, thinking it might be too hard. We tried a futon but have found these much more comfortable and easier to move around. One thing to remember is that if you don't have a rug or a carpet on the floor, consider getting one of lifting the mattress off the surface with a low wooden frame. It could be made out of palettes if you're looking for a cheaper option. You could also use a futon base. This stops the mattress from getting damp and/or moldy.

    Love this. Instant follow. I’m completely decluttering my home and going tiny. My physical trainer friend and his doctor wife have had no lounge furniture for years! What do you do for work? What exercise routine do you have? What diet do you have?

      Thank you! We love hearing about when someone declutters. Good for you! The benefits are uncountable and surprising 🤩 We have been considering making videos about the very things you have asked about. In short, we have laptop desks that allow us to sit on the floor and work. For exercise, we alternate between yoga, running, and walking, and we follow a plant-based diet. At the moment, it is low-ish carb as well.

    I wish I could sleep on the floor but my current house has a dirt crawl space and in Canada that means that the floor is incredibly cold in the winter. In the past I did enjoy sleeping on the floor in our previous home.

  • @Rabbitique58
    @Rabbitique58 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I feel the opposite. I think the hard surface is not good for your joints. The way your legs are positioned is bad for the hips. Maybe if you were younger but not in your older age like you are.
    I don’t see the point.

    • @MostlyMindful
      @MostlyMindful  หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Hi, thanks so much for your comment. We have felt significant benefits from sleeping on the floor. Our spines are better aligned which in turn has helped our joint pain. The fact that we get up off the floor and down again multiple times a day is great exercise for the hip joints, hamstrings, and quads and has made us that much stronger in the lower body. That said, it may not be for everyone and if you are struggling with back or joint pain, please do consult a physician before you try this.

    • @ivat957
      @ivat957 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm 69 and been sleeping on the floor for nearly a year. Not even on a mattress, just in a sleeping bag on a rug. I feel the hard surface IS good for my joints. I used to get aches and pains sleeping in the bed. One thing I do, though, is to have a small camping pillow between my knees, and, as a side sleeper, I feel as if this aligns my knees well. I'm not sure why I feel more comfortable on the floor; but I think it may be that the lack of give rests the muscles, which have to work hard opposing the give in a mattress.

    • @MostlyMindful
      @MostlyMindful  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ivat957 Goodness! That is a super interesting point of view! I've never thought of it in terms of what the muscles are doing. Sleeping bag on the floor is my next goal!
