Played once a month on Retro Charts Radio, along with every other Top 40 hit from 1952 to 1999. All 15,300 hits on random 24/7. It's a musical journey no one has ever been on before. No ads, no presenters, no news, no frills, just the music :)
One of the best pop songs from the early 70s. I was born in 55 & am so pleased I was in my teens in the 70s. This tune evokes so many memories of that wonderful musical era.
Probably one of the few remnants of good old wholesome catchy bubblegum pop tunes that take you out of the noisy, confused, dry, mundane and overawed experimental hard rock, heavy metal, blues, soft rock sounds which were on the climb in the British Spin-around Top Of The Pops in 1970s. Glad that I have found and heard the artistes live in U-tube now..
This always reminds me of my first love, 1970 and a girl l couldn't forget. Wonderful memories, l was 14. I eventually bought the single, now finally its on YT. Many thanks poppinhoppy. Its 1970 all over again!!! Whatever happened to Alison Vanstone?
l have never seen this song on any. Old c .ds or records l love iit dont know how or were to get a copy? got two more today lobo want you to want me greatest hits and liquid gold dizzy got to find butterscotch😂😂😂
I reme... Wait I wasn't born when it came out... But my parents always played it and it's so catchy! Why isn't this type of music still being made now?
@MTTASA Well, I was born in 64, and all times have their favorites, I love music from the 50's, 60's,70's,80's,90's and 10's :-) There will always be good songs :-) This one is LOVELY :-) Hugs, from Montevideo, Uruguay, South America
What a great tune!!!!!!!!!! It makes you feel good, not like this rubbish out now. I never heard any version until now. Reminds me of listening to the radio in the 1970's and waiting for your favorite song to play.
As good a pop tune as you could hear. Brings back memories of doing my O Levels in 1970. I remember Tony Blackburn playing this to death on his breakfast show. One-hit wonders, Butterscotch, but that doesn't detract from a fine pop song.
Back to 1970 where song writing was at its peak I think this came under the bubblegum heading but Arnold/Martin/Morrow wrote some very catchy 3 minute pop songs. "I've Got You On My Mind" by White Plains is another great 70's song. Seems like a life time ago when i used to hear this on good old Radio Luxembourg on 208 metres medium wave. Happy days
David Martin was married to my cousin at the time they released this single. He had had a couple of songs recorded on the Piccadilly label previously but one of those was banned by the BBC, Cinderella Romeo had an intro taken from Tchiakowsky's 1812 overture. The other was a cover of Don Gibson's Blue Blue day.
walking alone with my head in the clouds i don't know it's the world that's going by thinking of her feel like singing out loud and my hopes are as high as the sky don't you know she say hello and after all these time don't you know she turned to go and then she changed her mind at last I heard that little word so one expectedly don't you know she said hello to me she passed me by with her nose in the air They all said there was not a chance for me
this song is superb full of emotion..good harmonies..orchestration..and it tells a story...but it has an equally superb b side must rate as the best value single of 1970..i still have an original playable copy and i wouldnt part with it at any price!
I just found the B side on you tube after reading your comment, I had to look it up first to find out what it was, as I couldn't remember but as as soon as it played I was singing along, the words just coming straight into my head like it was 50 years ago, amazing. Thanks for the heads up reminder
I agree I think I wore out the B side. Now at 70 years old sadly I don't have the record any more but thanks to whoever put it on TH-cam I can re live my memories whenever I want.
It's weird that the supposedly prime quality CD reissues of this track feature a fade in and early fade out that were never present on the original hit that we heard here. In the UK the original RCA single (of which I have a copy - which clocks at 3'25" ) seems to be stereo as well - even though not labelled as such. Was there some master tape defect that made this neccesary on the CD issue? Was there some artistic reason or was it just technical incompetence? :-)
By the way, have you heard of another song from this time called "My Melanie". Somehow l think its connected with Tony Burrows. Also typifies 1970 for me and BBC Radio 1. Love to hear that again.
She's played it cruel but I don't really care She's played it cruel but I don't really care cause I'll show her how wrong they can be Now we're on the way we'll soon be going strong and then she'll belong to me I can't say no That's what I've been waiting for
hi my mate asked who sang this song 8 months ago .she tried to sing it ,but could not get this song coz she was not geting it right .but after 6 weeks we got some of the song,,then i found it on you tube.under ,edison lighthouse.and told her .this she ? this ,so i went back.then i had tell her .butterscotch.both good but butterscotch is better when we all meet up in the local pub we start to sing it.
Met this blonde mini skirted princess long cascading hair with a light smattering of freckles across her face she hated l loved she was 17 l was 19my hair was actually longer than hers proper hippie couldn't believe my luck when she said yes to a date courted1+ half years married 49+ a half never had a day's illness but lost her to pancreatic cancer 3 years ago on June 4 th so bought this record because I thought the words reflected my feelings good night gorgeous l❤ Lynn l know you told me to marry again but that's never going to happen ❤️
この曲を聞いて、中学2年生の時までタイムスリップした。ありがとう。
From a time when life was so much simpler……so many wonderful memories.

Happier times and music that you can understand. 😘
Always reminds me of the first time I spoke to my wife ❤😊 . John s
Described as "bubble gum rock" in those days,a great song never or very rarely heard on the radio these days.
Early 1970's British bubblegum music at its best should have been a huge hit.
Graham Dean played this song this morning on Boom Radio and it's been in my head all day . That's what brought me here and I'm glad it did 😊
A lovely uncomplicated song, with a pretty melody - doesn’t everybody love it?
one of THE best records of early seventies, so many memories with this song

Blame one man alone for such progressive actions these days. That one man is none other than Simon Phillip Cowell.

I love this song, I think it's one of my most favourites, have to sing along every time I hear it. Most modern music is rubbish in comparison.

Just want to re-iterate. What a brilliant song. You are right, gives you goose bumps.

If you think "I've got you on my mind" was a 70s song then listen to the original Dorian Grey version from 1968.
this is the best double A side record of the 70s...by far
fab music from a fab era .
Love this song
Great song
Love this song.
great song reminds me of growing up in the hot summer of 1970
Just a great song,fab., songwriters !!!!!!
Tony Burrows - one of the greatest singers EVER!
brilliant catchy song. UK tin pan alley at its best
Great wee tune...
MAGNIFICENT SONG by Butterscotch from 1970. A beautiful melody and message.

Absolutely agree with you, they dont make them like this any more!! Top class song, top class arrangement!!
Don't You Know excellent A side, but I also think that The Closer To You on the B side, should also have been an A side.
I took mine to a friend's party and dropped it, taking a large chunk out of the edge, gutted 😔
I just found the B side on you tube after reading your comment, I had to look it up first to find out what it was, as I couldn't remember but as as soon as it played I was singing along, the words just coming straight into my head like it was 50 years ago, amazing. Thanks for the heads up reminder

Wonder where she is now.
