    That was a very entertaining taste test. Lol. I enjoyed it , even though I wasn't tasting the paw paws.

    Wild paw paw in Virginia taste varied a lot but nothing expected if you have eaten a few cultivars. From watery to almost firm but not as firm as Susquehanna. They are varied from bland (maybe underripe when picked) to very sweet. The smell is anywhere from horrid (closer to stink bug but not that bad) to Sweetsop or Mango. I found that the bitter is in all paw paw around the seed and skin. That is also varied a lot with wild paw paw. The best one is just as good as the Mango and Susquehanna. However, it's smaller and with more seed.

    Some pawpaw like Wabash oxidize brown fast. Nyomi's, Tallahatchie & Shenadoah oxidize very slow. They need to be picked very ripe & let sit off the tree for a lot longer than most others. You eat Tallahatchie green!

    Love your videos on the Paw Paw! Especially from your perspective of someone who has had cherimoya, sweetsop, and some of the other Anonas. I like hearing you note those similarities and differences. From a long time cherimoya and atemoya grower i I have decided to plant some paw paws next year in my garden 😁

    The (Tallahatchie) obviously wasn't ripe, as not supposed to be firm & is usually 27% sugar. Green River Belle & Horn are around 21% sugar. Need to let fruits get ripe before picking.

      I am getting fruit this year from plants raised from 7 year old KSU seedling. My advice is to raise in deep, large pots for the first two years - with some shade protection. Then plant were they can get some decent sun. Lots of watering.

    • @loriki8766
      @loriki8766 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CHITheThirstyGardener I have a Shenandoah that bear lots of fruit and one grown from a wild seed that mostly just fertilizes the Shenandoah. The Shenandoah is very mild with a pudding like texture. It's really good but much too subtle. The wild tree only produces a little fruit and they are small, tend to be bitter, and mostly seeds. Although the fruit from both trees tastes a little different each year.
      I enjoy most fruits. Like every fruit I've ever eaten EXCEPT grapefruit. I like melons, papaya, mango, bananas, apples, plums, peaches, berries of all sorts.

      You are lucky to have fruiting trees :) Base on what you already have. I think it might be a good idea to consider something with a richer profile like 2-10, Susquehana, or Maria's Joy. I really like Halvin too. I dedicated 2 of my trees to graft different cultivars on them.

    Hello! My name is Roman, I am from Ukraine. I live in Lviv. I also love plants and in particular azimin. I planted a garden with 65 azimina trees. Bought 10 varieties in Italy. And the rest he himself grew from a bone. They are already 3-4 years old. I want to inoculate with American good varieties. I am interested in Geri Lehman's varieties. Can you help me with this?
